stock 87s had 240hp/340ftlbs.

in bone stock trim they were capable of high 13s - low 14s with a good driver (my own 89' Vette went 13.9 at 99mph 100% stock). a vert will add a few tenths to that. id say low 14s - mid 14s if she can drive

Heres my knowledge

87 vette does have aluminum heads (aka Vette heads LOL) on a L98. thats pretty much the only difference between the f-body L98's and corvettes. The heads are not equipped with EGR ports so the corvette EGR system runs a tap off the exhaust manifolds.

Rated at 245-250hp/340-350 torque, depends on the years. SD were rated more than MAF.

unless she did some serious mods, she be lucky to hit 350 hp and 280hp would be still hard to get. Needs full exhaust/headers and CAI + maybe runners/ported intake base. They are like 200-300lbs lighter than f-bodys. The stick versions can run high 13's and some reports of mid 13's with stock motor. So pretty quick.

edit: you guys beat me to it. LOL

The Corvette had a better exhaust system as well. From the factory they got header-ish manifolds, not logs like 3rdgens got.

(torque arm, LCA's LCARB'S, panhard, SFC's, shocks, struts, etc?).. also i have t-tops is there anything i can do to strengthen that part of the chasis (t-top delete? lol) ? thanx guys... i think ill hold off on the race until my car is nearing completion... unless its gonna result in me getting free food for losing... .hahah

Upgrading your suspension is the best way to increase the fun factor on these cars. Sure they are slow, but who cares when you can outhandle basically everything on the road for only a 100 bucks.

SFC's, TQ Arm, LCA's, Panhard, LCA relocation brackets, STB, Wonderbar....to name a few. There are LOTS of things you can spend $1,000 on for 3rdgen suspension mods.

shop ebay too, for cheaper deals on stuff.

I got brand new Eibach springs for 180 when summit sales them for 240.

Also got tokico adjustable Illuminas shocks for 400 when they sell for 525-575! Saved good money on that stuff and that leaves 400 more for LCA, panhard bar, subframe connectors, and swaybars.

LCA are like 100, panhard like 100, and subframe connectors are like 180-275, and sway bars can be had for 250 or so.

Great stuff that will completely transform your cars handling!! A must do mod for all thirdgen owners!

I've heard the Tubular K-member is not as stiff as the stock unit, even though it is lighter.

Not as stiff = not good for road racing where you see a high lateral load.

Though I haven't heard anything about the tubular A-arms being weak.

I don't think the stock K-member is stamped. I believe its cast iron. Heavy as sin, but also very strong.

Maybe its because the ones I've read about were intended for a drag racing application. Which really doesn't need to handle any side loads. So its not as strong because of the intended application?

I'm just repeating what seems to be the general concensus when I've read about them. I thought about it too. Lighter, easier to work on, cool factor.

But people who know there stuff are shooting the idea down for a road racing application. I'll give a few companies a call tomorow morning and get their opinions on their product to see whats fake and whats true.

There is no need to go to a tubular k-member if the rest of your casr is stock. Tubular peices are nice for all the above stated reasons but they have not been proven in road racing applications by their respected manufactuer. Tubular pieces are strong but the welds take serious loading under cornering since the unit is so ridgid. The welds are the weak links and can fail. The stock K-member is a monster single piece unit that can take anything you throw at it. There really isn't a weak link on it per-sea since it is basically just a big hunk of material.

Assuming you have good tires 1000 will make your car super fun

$200 - springs
$100 - Panhard rod
$60 - relocation brackets
$100 - LCA's
$200 - SFC'c (should be the first mod period)
$60 - wonder bar
$100-150 - STB

Add tax and shipping and you are near 1 grand there.
