Pocket Rockets

Finally I had my first meaningful race with a srt.
Well the other day I'm cruising to work and this blk srt comes up behind me pretty fast and proceeds to ride me so I changed lanes and he pulled besides me and game me this look, WELL HELL ITS ON. I threw it into neutral and gunned it, he gunned his as well, I put it back in overdrive and we slowed to about 60. He honked 3 times and took off, I put it in drive and slammed on the gas. I immediately pulled a car on him and the lead just kept increasing. He flashed me so I looked at my speedo (130mph) so I slowed to let him catch up. I rolled my window down The gut said he shifted wrong he wanted to go again. so this time from 55 I honked 3x's and he took off, I let him get about a car and half on me before I punched it. that srt was a little faster than I thought I didn't catch him till about 90mph as I passed him he smiled and gave me the thumbs up, I ran it to 115 and slowed. he was about a car behind me. as he passed me he honked so did I. :lala: First srt kill

I thought they would do better than an Iroc in the top end for the fact that they can rev higher do you have 2.73 if so that might have helped

Good run

I took one off the line he cought me at about 55 but couldn't pass me he gave up at about 75

i dont know man, sounds alittle off. my friend has a Srt4 and runs 13.8's at 100mph stock. pretty quick. an iroc with your mods can hang alittle from a roll, but he should have taken you. from a dig, you should jump out and they will play catch up.

the fastest stock SRT i've seen was a 14.1 I've also seen an 89 iroc with free mods and headers with open exhaust run 13.7 but like they say anything can happen on the street when I raced an SRT I was sure he would pass me but he just couldn't

I have 3.23 gears, never tracked my car but with my G-tech meter I run 13.7's at 101-103mph. I briefly played with other srt's and had basically the same results, this time however we were able to open it up. Also the fastest I've taken my car was coming from Reno and I raced an Audi A4 and I buried the needle
my speedo stops at 145mph and it was buried and I wasin the yellow and my rpm's were still climbing. I know I was somewhere around 150 or more. I don't think a srt can go that fast maybe 140 stock. Oh and yes I beat the A4 but lost points with my wife she was riding with me

with my mods I'm probably around the 280-290 range.
Still though a stock srt can't hang with the mods i have like I said i briefly played with a couple of srt's and had the same results.
I know they are fast and a modded one would probably take me but this one I beat twice in convincing fashion chalk up one for the black monster:hail: 5.7 350 TPI RULES!!!!!!!

The fastest stock SRT-4 I've seen run was a 14.1 as well. But it was at over a mile above sea level. The times I see run in that particular car are one of the most varied when I go to the track.

I wonder about some of you guys you guys act like a 92 350 z28 can't do 145+... GM claimed the 92 5.7 350 Z28 could do 145 stock, my monster is mildly modded. lets see thats 12 yrs ago do any of you remember that

The "my car is so old, you should be impressed by any amount of performance of all," argument is getting pretty old.

I'm kind of drunk.

Why ?

When I was young and dumb I tapped out my 145 mph speedo a few times. I'm not claiming the speedo is accurate at that speed, but I did get well past the last marks on the speedo. I found no speed limiter and the car had enough power stock to run through all the gears. I'd usually let off at 5300 rpm in O.D. . Feel free to figure out the math if you have a chart:

5300 rpm
3.23 diff gears
700R4 trans
26.1 inch tires

I doubt it's the 150+ the speedo indicated, but I would guess it's at least 140. I just want to clarify I did this several years ago during the first 6 months I had the car (while I was still in high school) and don't recommend anyone try it. It's stupid and unless you've done it, you have no appreciation of how fast and dangerous that really is.

Good Kill!!! I forgot most of the people on this board don't own a Speed Density L98, so they're unaware of the potential. Oh yeah, my 194,000 mile similarly modded car does the same. Even beats LT1's with an alarming regularity.

Nice kill, My best friend has an 04 srt-4 with stage 2.. it will only go 150MPH.. good for a 4 banger. we go riding around looking for trouble at night, alot of people are amazed when they get waxed.. like one guy in a wrx sti, said he beats srt`s all the time... its really depressing though we beat v8 cars all the time and it makes me lose love for my car LOL. Havent tracked his car yet but will soon...

It very scary running my car that hard, but I had to bet that A4.
I haven't buried the needle since then, I'll run it to 135 or 140 but very rarely because things happen to fast. BUT!!!!!! from time to time the speed bug gets the best of me. Also I don't claim that the speedo is accurate to the mph, but GM claims 145 on a stock 5.7 350, I have headers, exhaust high flow cats, stage II chip and a few free mods on my intake plus the usual K&N filter and air foil so I see no reason to doubt what I have already done.
For all you doubters, get a 5.7 350 and run it you'll be amazed at how fast it will run
