what type of body and suspeneion modifications will be required to approach the 200 mph barier given that my motor can push the hp to attain those speeds. I've heard that the body isnt much for stability past like 155, but can be lowered and run safely to near 180. Does anyone here have any experience when it comes to reaching these speeds? I'm not looking for like bonneville style mods, I just wanna know what'd it'd take to make a street car run nascar speeds.

DO I have the power? I run a balanced 355, that is torque biased, and strapped with a 125 hp nitrous hit. Its good for 13.2's at the track on the bottle, but I think it will need forged pistons before I get to punchy with the nitrous on the highway.

Also, is there any way to eliminate kickdown on a 700r4? I mean even with the modified valving my car will kick back into third if I FLOOR it.... but I want to be able to give it all the gas I can. Kicking into 3rd evan at the 115 limiter is bad enough, *** help me if I was clocking a buck55.

I am by no means an aerodynamic expert on the thirdgen, but I'd think a body pan would help @ those speeds.

it would help but a 180 i dont think it would be super bad the right tires, a decent motor, if you have a camaro just turn the intake into a real ram air, put on headlight covers, a decent shaft, and nitrous would help. Remove the governor/chip I know mine shuts off at 145. and your set, a manual tranny is a help

ive hit 160 in my iroc before,

i cant help it i go to a deserted road every time i take it out of the garage and top out 5th gear which is 155

i dont know who is saying our cars are not very aerodynamic but in stock form are rated for 300mph without any modification

our drag co efficent is .34 which is so low.

and to hit 200 which is my goal you need to re do the entire suspension 15yo suspension is not good doing those speeds, so sub frame connectors all new joints/bushings/ ends stiff springs and shocks

best first time out was 109 in the 1/4. un-tuned, crapy exhaust system, ****ty intake set up, poor burn out, no clue on shift points, slight miss off the line and all in all a bad run...

Yeah, cause trapping 109 on a first pass on an untuned set-up is so r-wordy. He must have had all kinds of tasteless appearence mods, and wasted his money on all kinds of show parts.

this was with my stock 305TPI Auto.

At the track, it ran a 15.2 @ 90mph.

you guys do know that speedo stops working around the MPH area. my stock tpi 305 found that out (years and years ago) hit the brakes and just as my speedo hit 90 mph a cop came up a side road and clocked me got a ticket for that one

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around does it make any noise?

If a vette goes 140mph or does a burnout and no one is around, does it make any noise?

Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. go to the track if you want to see vette drivers get on it.

My 89 2.8L Got up to 120 at virtually full throtle. I know running at as high of RPM as I did is bad for the car but I had to test it out. I haven't tested my new 5.7L yet. Still waiting for an open track day.

As long as it's below redline, it's not really bad for you car. If it was, the engineers who designed it wouldn't allow it to rev that high.

It was at just under 5K, but I ran it like that for just under a mile

Note: the car had 200K + miles, and I was in the process of getting a replacement so I wasn't to worried about it. I'm surprised it was able to do what it did.

Well the fastest i've gone in my camaro is about 103. I am real ***** when it comes to my car. Generally speaking i dont drive it more than 55 on regular roads and 70 on highways. The only reason i took it up to 103 was because i had just gotten it and i wanted to see how it pulled up there. I made a pass on the road just to make sure there were no cops before i did it.

Thats what i'm worried about, cops. If i'm gonna go be reckless and risk tickets i'll do it when i pay for my own insurance. Right now my parents pay for my insurance and thats a ****load for a 16 year old driving a sportscar. I'm not gona make them pay anymore (hopefully).

On a similar note, instead of driving really fast, i tend to have fun w/ my car with its handling...which is superb, might i add!!

i am sort of the same way.....all my friends want me to do burnouts and doughnuts all day, but their not the ones that had to maintain a good GPA in order to get the car....getting a speeding ticket would get my car taken away...but....not saying i havent dont those things before ...ive taken mine about 110 on the freeway once..not a bad experience...quiet a rush i might say. but yes im the same way mack. the car handles great and its fun to see what it can do around "round-a-bouts" and all those things, but dont do stupid stuff that would make ur parents ever think about taking ur car away..my cars my baby, i would be crushed if my parents took it away

Yea i want to get another third gen to beat around in. Probably couldnt get the money til atleast the spring time, but i'd have to see where i'm goin gto college first. If im gona go out to pittsburgh where im not even gonna bring a car, then what the point in buying another one. but if i stay closer and i need to commute ill definately get something.

What do you mean subdivisions, like highways that are being built? They're making this bigass bypass by my house and its done i think they're just paintin the lines or something, your not supposed to go in there but i guess you could if you wanted to...is that what your talking about???

a mack6,

Taking it up to speed is fun, but that kind of responsibility you have to not make someone else pay for your mistakes will really get you far in life.

LOL i guess it must be a locational thing.. here in FL a subdivision is what we call the suburbs... they are small, usually walled in, neighborhoods. when they are still being built there are no houses but the roads are there, and empty. drift practice.. lol

ohh...now i know what you mean. Can't say there are too many of those around here. To make up for it though, we got some beautiful country roads out here that wind for miles and miles through like rural areas. Its heaven on earth. I love taking my car down those roads.

going back to what i was saying about the faster my car is, the less i speed.....

since ive been daily driving the LS1 car the last month, i touched 100mph twice.... once was just a floor it to pass and held it for a couple seconds, realized how fast i was going, and let off..... the other was on a on ramp...... same thing though, accelerated up the ramp (this is the start of the hwy, no traffic anywhere)glanced down, and realized my speedo was pegged... 40 to 115+ time is only a couple seconds now.. lol.

if ive got a lil bit over 200k miles on it, and i can still abuse the heck out of it, u thynk it would be able to hit pretty high in the mph witout too much damage.
