GMC Sierra 454`

There is this kid at my work (kind of a young cant assert my own opinions so ill reinnerate everyone elses) well he has this junky old truck with about a thousand lights on it (rough estimate)

anyways he brags about his dads truck all day long and about how fast it is. He says its a 1995 GMC sierra 2500 HD with a 454. Ive seen the truck and it looks like a dog...not super loud or anything...anyways he said he beat a newer 2004 and below mustang GT in it...i dunno i raced a GT same style from a 15 mph roll or so and got beat (i think that was a bad spot to go from and also know that a roll is not the TPI strong point but o well i lost)

Im just wondering if anyone knows what kind of times this truck will run and if it somehow comes down to it do you think i could bury him from a dig

i probably would have gotten much closer if not won against the mustang from a straight dig

350 TPI pretty much bone stock
old flowmaster muffler
K & N filter
Good BFG tires

saving all the modding for my 383 stroker

I would have to agree. His is a typical poser who has a car that has gives him the feeling that it is fast. The 454 TBI trucks made like 250hp and 350lb ft all wrapped in a nice and light 4500lb package. You will dominate him with your L98. Dominate.

that truck has no chance in hell of breaking 17s, so dont waste your gas.

I have no idea what the older trucks weigh. I didn;t relaize that the 454 trucks were that heavy My old '98 full bed Sierra weighed only 4200lbs dry. It was a 2wd zero option truck with a V6 though.

Yeah, the 2500HDs have a much heavier frame, suspension, brakes, and axles, so the 2wds are around 5000lbs, plus ext. cabs weigh more, and 4wd adds at least 300lbs i believe. My 89 2wd 1500 zero option regular cab with a v6 and a 5spd weighs in at around 4000.

What shifty said

But like any large displacement motor, the 454 BBC can be modded into a total monster without much work at all.

Definitely. If my buddys '90 2wd can run 15.5 at 88 untuned and no shocks, only with a mild crane cam, carb swap, shortys, and 4.10s, just imagine the potential a 454 would have.

all engine potential put aside i heard this kid's DADS truck and it didnt sound monstorous or cam heavy or any tall tale signs of extreme power

this kid is just how everyone else is when they start liking autos and trucks and immediately think 454 if its so huge its gotta mean super powerful and thats just not the case on older engines
they wont be power houses without good modifications

hes always sittin there going "blah blah blah my dads truck 454 baby" and hes about to get called out on it the next time he says something he will for sure

remember also it IS the 4X4 so itll have the extra weight...i doubt the thing could break 16sec 1/4s but im sure it feels pretty fast compared to his truck that cant break 20sec. (some old ford heap of junk with a thousand UFO lights that belongs in an abandoned field rusting)

ill let you guys know if anything happens but i dont think hell be a prob for the GTA

found out its only 2wd checked it over bc he was talking about how his dad used one of those pocket tuners on it which ive seen can get a lot of power out of those trucks..but im still not at all worried...its sucha crappy looking truck

crappy tires
ugly heavy grill gaurd
i cant imagine the trannys shape
im sure the 454 is barely kicking as it is

anyhow he started talking crap again so i told him any day anywhere

he said hed bring the truck the next day bc his pos broke down

he brought it and asked if i still wanted to run "even though i know youll beat me"

(another co worker enlighted him that if i couldnt beat his dads crappy truck then his 83 caprice classic 305 could take my car)

after work he just drove off and i was on the phone with my gf and almost made an attempt to flag him down but i just dont know if its even worth the gas to shut him up...i think hes realizing that hes really REALLY IGNORANT

While you are probably right about smoking him I have seen some trucks run pretty good, especially the 454 ones. The 230 HP rating is decieving, it peaks at 3,800 rpm. It makes 385 ft/lbs @ 1,600.

Watched a stock 1993 3500 dually with a 454/4L80E run a 15.8 @ 88 last night.

Watch out for this one; you wouldn't stand a chance against the older Dodge 2500 with the V10. A LT1 can barely hold its own against one. The 10s put out 300 hp @ 4,400 and 450 ft/lbs @ 2,400 and came with a 3.92 rear end all in a 5,000 lbs truck. Those trucks will run a 14.5 @ 98 spinning through 1st gear. It doesn't take much to get a 454 to make those power numbers. One could probably even make those numbers without going into the engine.

GoodspeedGTA- never underestimate a quiet engines potential. Look at what my full size van was running with a factory quiet 355/700r4/ and 3.08s. Didn't even lope at idle with the LT1 cam. Still ran a 9.85 @ 77.3 in the 1/8 and 15.63 @ 87.6 in the 1/4 into a 20 mph head wind.

if i was talking to someone who had a lot of knowledge about performance and racing then i would have been much more weary about losing after he told me it was tuned and anything else....if it had...anything else lol which it didnt

he was bragging about farm trucks that were complete junk...and yes i know that junked cars and trucks can be great sleepers
ive had a chevy SS try to catch me and pass me once while accelerating and he never did...

very few trucks out there are running low numbers (11s and 10s) that are driven every day but plenty of cars are so i kinda watch out for cars the most

ive seen a raced up dually..it was a dodge (new ones) and it tried to race me at a stop that quickly became one lane

he left a little early and i pulled to being neck and neck my torque against his...i dunno if hed have pulled me top end...i dont really care bc i know he has more money put into that thing seeing as how i have basically NADA in mine....then he proceeded to act like a ******* dick and kept trying to smoke my car with his desiel exhaust

i hate *******s theyre such idiots

Wasn't there a commercial similar to this back in the 90's? Only it was a Black LS1 Trans-am doing this very thing to a Porsche, while making the sound of a Bobcat....

It might have been. I mostly remember the Firebird burping after it digested it...
