Iroc vs. 89 LX Stang

Okay I have a 88 Iroc-Z with a 700-r4 Tranny with trans-go shift kit. The motor is a 357 with a 650 dp carb and ported heads. Makes around 375-400 horse. 3.73 in the rear also.

The question is will I be able to beat my buddy with only a CAI by a pretty good margin.

I just don't want to lose after all the work to a stock mustang.

Thanks.

Youll walk him with ease if you have that kind of power. Stock hes probably anywhere from low 14s to mid 15s depending on a LOT of things. His CAI does nothing as far as power, so it is pretty much bone stock!

I just din't wan't to think I was unbeatable, Because you never know. Plus I didn't want to look like an idiot saying I could beat him and then lose.

Give a 5.0 stang any set of gears in the 3.xx range and thatll change quickly :d

the only L98's around here are not impressive to me. one runs 10.2's and is tired. One is real nice and runs 8.6's on Nitrous but he has full exhaust cam and swapped the stock heads for LO3 heads Says it "makes alot more power"

The other one is a 91 Trans Am. Headers-back exhaust, 3.73 gears, CAI, AC and smog delete, and TB and only runs 8.9's...Imagine those mods on my 5.0

BTW, Im not 5.0 partial just I dont have a ThirdGen to drive anymore

I agree.... the 5.0 is a great engine.. Easy Modding... The l98 will still beat it stock with a crapomatic STOCK VS STOCK... Most l98s vs 5.0s i seen, the l98 won by a carlength or so... Still a great race. A classic matchup from the 1980s...

The thing about that crapomatic, was it allowed anyone to get the same good times out of the L98s, where the 5.0s with autos were dogs, and with sticks, it is all up to the driver. An L98 with a stick, would be an awesome car, but it sadly never happened! Just gotta swap in a T56 to make up for it!

So I'm not the only one!

lol, ever since I drove my ex's (together at the time) '99 Hyundai Elantra 5spd one night like 6 months ago, its been a habit of mine to stick my left foot in for the clutch when I slow down and going around corners and stuff, and when I hold first gear til 5500-5700rpm (now that I actually have power to there), I always throw my foot in like there's a clutch when I'm shifting to second. It sucks...this is all after driving an incredibly slow car for all of like 3 hours. I think my left foot is trying to tell me something (SAVE UP AND PUT THAT T-56 IN!)

If I had money on the line I'd go with a beefed up Auto!
Shoot I'm so lazy I wish I could sit in a car and just press a button to make the car drive an shift itself. Then I'll just fold my arms look out the window and stare at the other guy all the way down the track!

Yeah I'll be a B*$CH as long as I WIN!

Hey IROC-Z28_CAMARO what are the specs on your cam and is it roller? What suspension upgrades do you have?

That would be the car winning and not you then There are plenty of slow cars that beat fast cars with good driving alone.

I only own standards now, and can say I love it. Shifting gears is something I have to do, and even an auto with a manual valve body doesnt compete. I need 3 pedals, and a shifter. Im not saying sticks are faster, they arent, Im just saying a well driven stick car is a point of pride, a well driven auto means nothing to anyone! I would HATE owning a car that ANYONE could drove as fast as me, because its that easy! Im the kind that will watch a 9 second auto, and go, "cool", but see a 12 or 13 second well driven stick car, and be impressed!

You guys can let the car do the work, Ill be the one smiling in the end, when I know I personally made the car beat the other guy!

Well, if you use that same imagination, can you envision him winning by 15 car lengths in a quarter mile race?
If not, either it was an endurance race, or he exaggerated/lied.

The race was about 3/4 miles long. I was doing over 240 where my spedo ends, it was burried and she kept on pulling.

The cam specs are .575 on both intake and exhaust on a 106 LCA. And yes it is a roller cam.

Just to tell you his stang is a mid 15 car.

If I had a choice I would be driving a standard all day in eveyone of my vehicles, but unfortunetly with these cars you really dont have a choice. 90% were autos. I looked for a year trying to find a T-5/V8 thirdgen and couldnt find one so I had to get an auto car. Oh well I will be doing a T-56 swap in the near future to make up for that. Driving an automatice takes the fun out of driving a performence car, and the 700R4 is a pain in the ***. I like deciding when to shift. The first time your car downshifts from OD to 3rd when you are trying to drive fast on the freeway youll agree.

trying to bounce off the original question, my car is garaged for a while, but would it take a stick 302 mustang, i know there are a few guys around here that have them modded to hell but they supposedly only run high to mid 14's.

If they are modded to hell and only run high to mid 14s, then they cant drive, or their cars are badly out of tune. Unless your at elevation...

I would say a stock or near stock one you could run with!
