another "what if" thread, sorry

sup guys,
i dont race often, (the ol' L03 doesnt always talk the talk, you know how it is) but some 16 yr. old punk at work keeps runnin at the mouth so i thought id ask-

me: '91 RS t-top with bone stock L03 and T-5 (lets assume i can launch fairly decently)

him: '98ish Crown Vic ex-cop car with the 4.6 and automatic, also bone stock

both of us admit our engines are high mileage and tired, probably not running at their best at the moment. and i should add that i weigh an even 200 lbs. and this kid has at least 100 more than that on him. so should i challenge him?

How hard do you wanna rape him? Lets just say this.....My buddy has a 98 Crown Vic Intercepter. Super clean car, well under 100k miles, has intake, TB, exhaust and gears and his best run is a 9.99.....usually he runs 10.2's...my bone stock auto 92 RS with a tune up and smog delete ran a 10.22 consistantly....i had 107k miles on it and raced it ALL the time at the track. You should take him but not by alot. If you have 2.73 peg leggin liek i did its hurtin you...but since you are T-5 youll beat him much easier than I would have. I say race him and let us know.

3.08's are nothing to brag about. Find out what those things weight and what power they're rated at.

I was just browsing and noticed those 1/4 times above:

Quote: My buddy has a 98 Crown Vic Intercepter. Super clean car, well under 100k miles, has intake, TB, exhaust and gears and his best run is a 9.99.....usually he runs 10.2's...my bone stock auto 92 RS with a tune up and smog delete ran a 10.22 consistantly....End Quote

I was just curious how you are running those 1/4's on stock engines?
I know my car, slightly built, can pull mid to high 12's - Its a 91 Z28 with a Corvette L98 (aluminum head) with Cam, Clutch, Exhaust, Chip etc...
And I have a friend running a 383, car is tubed - he's got about 15 grand into the engine alone, and hes only running low 12's...

Are those times a misprint or what? You running NOS or something? I just don't get it?

I'm hoping...
I guess I shoulda thought through it a little more. I just never really discuss 1/8's. Its always about the 1/4.

im not bragging, trust me. I know my car is slow.
stock ratings for me: 170 hp/255 lb-ft
and ive heard about 3100 lbs.

for him, autotrader.com says 3900 lbs.
rated at 200 hp/275 lb-ft (not sure if this is the interceptor package or not, or if that makes a difference)

the kid who owns the car told me it weighed 4600 lbs., i dont know if he is trying to be sneaky or if one of these sources is wrong

Does he have four or five bodies in the trunk?

If his car weighs 4600lbs, you should have no problem at all. However, I highly doubt it weighs 4600lbs.

The C Vic is not 4600 lbs but is over 4k. I don't know the exact figure. I forgot, sorry. Either way, there is no way he is running the times he claims STOCK. At best it's a 19 second car in the 1/4 with the 4.6. That is assuming it's not a worn out engine like he claims. Even a worn out LG4 is faster than that. Take his money. If he beats you then he has mods and is not telling you about them. Don't let him off easy, check his compression on a couple of cyls's and bring it to a few local engine rebuilders. They will know. Catch him in his lie if he thinks he is pulling a fast one. End of story.

Yeah right, like he's going to go through the trouble of checking some guys engine compression, and taking the car to local engine rebuilders, lmao. Like that guy would even let him.

Depends on which version of cop car you're talking. Ford had a couple of variations in the rear gearing depending on the intended use- highway patrol or street patrol. The street units have fairly high (numerically) rear gears- somewhere around the 3.7:1 mark- the highway cruiser around 3:1 or so. While a '98 interceptor (all Ford cop cars are called "Interceptors") is not a big threat to anyone generally, a street-destined unit with a [properly] working transmission and 4000lbs of weight will likely beat your T-5 L03 3.08-geared thirdgen- assuming it's not totally beat out and this isn't a race over 1/4 mile or so- it will be quicker out of the hole.

As mentioned, however, race him and find out the hard way- just don't lay alot of money on it.

.

Your going to get eaten alive. Cop cars wiegh 4100 lbs and have 230 hp 295 ft lbs of tq with the Interceptor option. I would guess low 15's. I say just unplug a few of his plug wires when he's not looking, you'll get the win.

This thread is funny.

Those cars usually run right about a 16 flat. Are you faster?

I remember chevy high performance did a comparison between the intercepter and the 9C1 impala(fwd one) and said the vic had 200 or 205hp and did beat the imp by about 1 or 2 tenths in the 1/4 mile. I think it would be a drivers race

-edit-

guess that was the older model
