5.o

Raced a 5.0 last night

I'm sitting ready to turn on the highway, a daily commute for me with my blinker on .. then a 5.o stang pulls up right behind me. He starts revving his motor to all hell.. I look back and can't see anything over his 20'' cowl hood.. i said what the hell ill go for it. I pulled on the highway .. he's right next to me going about 25 and we both hit it. I jump about 2 car lengths on him instantly, then he jumps back right beside me.. then he gets ahead. I look down and im tacking 4800 (for a tpi .. ) He's slowly gaining a car or two on me.. then by some miricle my car keeps pulling all the way to 5300 and im right next to him again. I shift into 3rd and start slowly fading behind him.

I guess those new runners, chip, and few more bolt ons i did this week really helped. Considering my car is far from modified, I think I did well. The only mods I could tell that he had were exhaust and that dorky hood.

What other mods would I need to hang with him at higher speeds? Think and Edelbrock base port matched to my runners would help? Headers def. would.

I am gonna assume it was a 5 speed 5.0 car. Whats your car urn low 14's? He may have just exhaust or exhaust and gears or you never know but if you run low 14's, Id say he may run high 13's, never know.

Go carb, ditch TPI

You're car seems to have that temperamental "Herby" syndrome....

Better heads, bigger cam and a less restrictive intake. By the way, why in the world would you want to "hang" with him at higher speeds? It's a Rust-ang for crying out loud, RAPE HIM!!!!!

That's normal with a TPI lol. He probably had exhaust and gears, easy mods and more than enough to take you.

Get headers and some gears/posi of your own, and a stall, then go and find him again. You'll be able to take him in the quarter but with your TPI he'll still walk you from a roll.

Yeah, im getting a converter, but I don't think that will help while at a roll. I'm getting headers as well as soon as my damn $paycheck$ comes in.

As for the cam, is there anyway to put a cam in without yanking the motor? If there is, what cam would you guys suggest? Sometime next summer I plan on getting my heads redone with new valves and seals, so I may have them ported out while thats being done.

I'm sticking with TPI in some form or another. What's so great about a carb. You'll loose alot of torque.

Convertors help from a dig BIG TIME, especially with crappy TPI. If this is a street car, get shorties...like mine i have for sale

Cam jobs are very easy i the car. take the radiator and condensor out and its cakework. Ive done 2 in my old car and will be doing it again in my new motor.

Whats so great about carb? Cheaper, easier to work with, and its limits are endless. You wont lose that much torque and you'll sitll be able to pull well over 5k...what is if your motor can still make power over 5k. Carb is better in every aspect. Only reason Im going FI is because I got this setup EXTREMELY cheap...otherwise Id have a Holley 770 S/A and RPM Air Gap on the way right now.....If a pro Stock car can use them with ease, Street cars can even easier. My roommates 383 Stroker w/t56 still pulls around 18 MPG in the city and 23MPG+ on the highway...hes putting down over 400 horse and 400 ft lbs.

Actually a stall helps bigtime from a roll, especially in deadspots.. because YOU WONT HAVE DEADSPOTS ANYMORE!

And yes, you can install a cam without pulling the motor.

Well my radiator is getting kinda So might be a good excuse I wish I new how to put a cam in.. TDC... degree it

Plus I have the money saved up to get my transmission fixed if it goes out. That would be a good time to put the stall in

I think if you search for stekman, his signature contains a cam install guide. It's really rather simple, but if you mess ANYTHING up, you might be screwed lol.

A converter is a bit easy to install yourself.
