Does my friend suck at driving or is my car really faster than his?

My friend has a 1987 mustang with a 347stroker, saleen intake, headers, exhaust gears, etc. and he has a timeslip that shows 12.5x on the quarter mile, from the person who owned the car before he just bought it.

My car has a zzz 350 high output complete motor (aluminum), edelbrock headers, flowmaster exhaust, 3.73 gears, 700r4, accel 2x58 throttle body, and a few other less serious things. I raced him for fun the other night from a roll and a light and beat him both times.

Does it sound like there is osmething wrong here. And also, what do you think my car would run on a good day.

Right, but I am asking, should my car have kept up with his? Or can he not drive like the previous owner could? Sorry about the confusion.

Sounds like he cant drive. If you have a 347 with even ported E7's, you're in the 12's easily. I know a guy here locally that has a 347 with ported ad polished e7's, 347, full intake, upgraded fuel, full exhaust, sticky tires, gears, etc and he runs 8.1's spinning down the track on BFG DR's......S yeah your buddy just needs to learn that car better. A 302 N/a is easy to make run mid 13's...if you have a SC or turbo on a 302 and are only running 13's you've got serious problems.

yea that 302 wont get out of mid 13's. biggest waste for a 302. it is a crate motor with cobra heads, intake upper and lower plenum and the vortec and it cant break low 13's...sad very sad.

Cobra heads? Cobras came with E7's like LX's and GT's did. There are the GT40 heads. If you have a Cbora upper/lower, and GT40 heads and sitll in the 13's, you've got problems. Back when I only had 3.73's and DR's with a slipping clutch and blown shocks I ran a 9.09 which is like a 14.0 and my car has 228k miles on it. Since then ive added a new DF clutch, full exhaust, and new SensaCrap shocks....sohuld see high 13's.

something is seriously wrong then. Hows it run? Good lcutch behind it? Geared with 3.55's? Boost leak? Traction problems? I mean it should be deep in the 12's with those mods. Did you do any tuning?

If he can't get a charged 5.0 into the 12's, he should burn the car and collect the insurance. Stroked 5.0's, N/A are easy 12s cars.

get some stickies and take it to the track. Crapitol and MIR are both pretty close. Have your buddy go too so you can see what his car runs with him driving.

Sounds like a lot of people who cant build, tune or drive their cars. A stock motor blown car should go easy 12s on radials, or low 12s on any tire. The stroker car with a good set of heads should be 11s on any good tire. And a supercharged 347 should be well past the 11s on a good tire. If these cars cant run these times, they are doing something wrong!

You dont need radical heads, cams or strokers to go easy 12s all day long. Take my word for it, you really dont!

Well, his is stick and mine is auto. But hes been driving stick for like 5 years straight though, racging constantly. Maybe I just got lucky. He hasn't run the car himself yet, but the previous owner did and ran the 12.5. And since, hes added some happy gas.

depends on what cam he has and how well its tuned. a 383 chevy could be a 350hp street car or a 600hp strip car. doesnt mean it HAS to be a 600hp car.

just like the 347 stroker. doesnt automatically have to be a 11 second car. more than likely he only has about 350-400hp on it and only doing mid 12's. which is fine

sounds bought right to me

also, on his slip, what did he trap? he might only be trapping 105-108mph which means he's gettin great traction.

since you raced from a roll, your car might have more power and can trap higher than that. so your gonna pull him.

a 13.0 car doing 110 in the 1/4 will most likely always pull on a 12.5 sec car that traps 106mph from a roll

We raced from a roll and a light. But I will ask him what his trap speed was next time i see him.

Did he spray when you guys raced? If he did it must be a sneaky pete or something really small.
