The New 'Stangs

I was out the other night when I pulled up next to a new GT.
So I inched forward a little to see if he wanted to go but he stayed back. So light turned green and I just went on my merry little way. Speed limit was 35 and i was going around 40. The stang was in my blind spot then all of the sudden guns it. He gets up to my door before I actually caught it though. I floored it and kept him back...for about a tenth of a second lol. He pulled hard and was about a car length and a half until i realized ive been beat an shut down at just shy of 70 mph.

Afterwards I figured id read some of the specs on the new Gt since I knew nothing about em. Read that they get high 13s on the 1/4 stock. Not too shabby. BTW my lil lg4 is stock , besides an open element.

Anybody else have some encounters with the new stangs? How do the non-GT's perform?

the new gt mustang as in the new body style? The 05-06 is running at least low 14s, high 13s I think, But this also depends on the driver. The motor is at least putting 300 crank horsepower from what Ive read in magizines.

From 40-70, with him having a head start he only walked a car length and a half... You did alright, he should have walked more than that!

As far as what they run, it depends on a lot. Some run mid 14s, some mid 13s, depends on mods, driver, track, etc...

The newer GT's aren't that fast considering the power they have, but you can't expect 281 cubic inches to move 3600 lbs that easily. They run a tad faster than some bolt on L98s, but they are beatable. As for the V6 cars, Ive seen some run 15.2-15.3 and higher 15s with an auto. The v6 cars look better Imo.

Last I checked a "few bolt on L98's" don't run mid-low 13's

Funny topic cause I just raced one the other night. Pulled up to the light with a nice piece of open road ahead. We both waited to get rolling before we hit it (his idea ) so around 30 he layed it out, I gave him about a second before I punched it, and passed him spinning tires and all, I hit second and grabbed some traction, that was the end of the race.lol He did'nt like the 4 car jump I got once I bit into the pavement, he shut it down soon after. He got up beside me and shook his head, did'nt like getting wiped by a third gen I guess.lol His face kind of reminded me of the C5 owner I upset a few nights before.

25th, can you tell me if the COBRA pre super charged (2002-2003??) is quiker than the new stang?? Is'nt it the same power plant??

PS I am really sorry if I high jacked this thread, don't mean to mess it up on ya, congrats on the hold off cause the newer stangs are not too bad!!

The 03 was supercharged, and they had an NA 01 cobra. I believe it was a 4 valve. I think the new GTs have something different.

Cobras are 4 valve PI headed 4.6L Modular motors. 03-04 Cobras are fully forged supercharged versions

then 05+ Gt's are 3 valve PI headed 4.6L Modular motors.

The Mach 1's got the old Cobra motor....4 valve non-SC motor, same thing that came in the 99 and 01 Cobra's.

IMO, I think the new Stnags are butt ugly and ford has lost their "touch"....The Fox BOdy was everything right. It was light, affordable, easy to mod, and had to power to do what it needed to do. You can put down 300 RWHP in a Stang and run an 11 second pass with the right setup and still be on a budget. Hell, Ill be all bolts ons, cam, stock heads, and rear control arms, gears and DR's and should urn some mid-low 12 seond N/A passes and on the Nitrous, I will be deep into the 11's.

I dont like the 05s either. They do look better with a Roush kit on them, or a Cervinis eleanor kit.

I went to a dyno session not too long ago, thiskid bought a new black GT and was having a K&N kit put in, it made 287 to the wheel and like 320 tq. after K&N and some tuning. Those now have "Smart" plugs that control chamber pressure and other crazy stuff, no more $.99 spark plugs eh?

A bolt on L98 runs high 13s or 14 flat, and the stock 05 stang runs high 13s, whats so funny about that. ***.

Most experienced driver's are getting mid 13's out of the GT's easy.

No need to start the name calling you douche.

I've lined up next to a few new GT's on the street. No one wanted to play I"ve been wanting to waste one just for the hell of it.

Smilies own you.

I wasted a supercharged one the other night. He had a Paxton, gears and full exhaust He said his tuning guy couldn't get the tuning down...that's the understatement of the century.

I had my 89 dynoed and got 307 Crank horsepower. I ran the car at the track. I started the day with a 13.9@96, and ended with a 13.7@98 on DR's of course. Thats with me driving times may of been better with a better driver. I have seen the new Stangs numbers range from 13.4-14.0 so it really depends on the driver.

Here are my mods: As you can see it takes more than a few bolt ons. It takes MANY bolt ons to get into the 13's. I believe stock the 350TPI's run mid-high 14's....

Yup..

I also had my L98 running 13.8's.

A bolt on L98 running consistent low 13's with no power adder(and no heads, cam etc) is hard to find.

I own a '92 RS (LO3, 700R4) and my only major mod is a full 3'' Flowmaster exhaust. I've raced my buddy's 2001 Grand Prix GT (3800, non-supercharged) quite a few times and I usually beat him by about a fender.

Anyways, a few nights ago I was riding with him, and a kid driving a new Mustang pulls up next to us at a light. It was the V6 (I think it's about 210 hp?) and it was an automatic. He wanted to race, so when it turned green we took off. The Mustang jumped out in front by a nose, but by the time the race was over (the kid quit at about 70 mph) both cars were dead even. So I'm guessing my RS would have a slight edge if I raced against a newer V6 Mustang.
