I think he would stomp you pretty. they run low 13's out of the box, and I saw one at the local strip go high 12's with a set of slicks. So, a little more than headers and exhaust are gonna be needed IMO.

i have out run a lightining but they ain't slow.

it will depend on the 350 you have. is it stock? if so tie a rope to his bumper so you can stay close.

A stock L98 will get worked by a Lightning.

Just keep talking junk to lightning owner but don't race him until you spend about $5000 into your car.

It takes a bit to keep up to one of them!

I gave her a good run for the money but she had me on top speed, damn these 4.11s

Although my motor is pretty old and tired ('74) with a few bolt ons, nothing special i got it off the line and we stayed side by side for quite a while then she started slowly pulling away.

Yes its a she driving the truck, and a damn hot one too

I was wondering how a 454SS would fare against a Lightning and a Ram SRT10, how bad would the 454SS lose? And how quick is the SRT compared to a Lightning?

srt10 and Lightning are almost evenly matched. The SRT10 pulls a little better top end, but I think their 1/4 are only a few .10's of a second difference. Correct me if I am wrong. Also, the lightning is supercharged not turboed.

there was actually a ligtning vs SRT10 race at the drag strip that i worked at this summer....the SRT10 could NOT get traction in 1st, 2nd, and even some in 3rd.....but when he did finally hook he was definately reeling the lightning in.....but the lightning did end up winning that one....i think that if the SRT 10 woulda hooked he woulda smoked the lightning....the race was definately a crowd pleaser though!!

What about the Chevy Silverado (or 1500 C/K, whatever it was actually identified as) 454SS, what would it run in the 1/4 mile?

Um actually, they only run high 13's/low 14's "out of the box". And that is in Phoenix where the elevation is about 1000ft. Dosent take much to beat them. I think a decent running L98 in good tune with full exhaust and decent gears would run with if not pull ahead of a stock Lightning. Just keep in mind, there have been stock L98's that have run low 14's.

the 454 ss were not top dogs they had peanut heads on them they were faster than 17 secs tho dont know who said that they were i believe in the 14s but the way they were geared it was mostly for stoplight to stoplight or maybe pulling boats up and out of the dock. and srt10 is more than just a few tenths faster. almost a half second or more than the lighting and the ss is a joke. you can beat one of those in a l98. the ss is just a sticker package just like everythin else built by chevy these days.

theres not a snowball's chance of a stock L98 running with a well-driven Lightning (talking of the supercharged ones of course). mid-high 13's, maybe a 14.0 at sea level is faster than any stock L98 car. Headers and catback will definitely help, but you're smoking something if you think its enough to pull ahead of one. The scream from 20-100. Above that and aerodynamics take over and they hit a brick wall. Below 20 and they're a tire roaster.

I raced one years ago just after I had swapped in the LT1. Had headers, tune, and 3.42's at the time. We raced twice from a 30 roll and I was side-by-side to 100 both times.

high 13's? each lightning that i've seen run, all go mid 13's to low 13's stock. and I agree with LT1, it'd take quite a bit of work to run with a well driven lightning.

for a l98 to compete against a lightning it wouldnt be a l98 anymore you would need a new intake system, better heads either a lil bit of squeeze a mini blower or a small turbo to keep up. not to mention gears my buddy hit 12.8 at sears point in his completley stock lightning down to the tires

Unless you can get some wicked-crazy 60' ft times, that lightning will smoke you pretty good. There is one in town that runs a smaller pulley with slick and runs high 11s

What about the new Silverado SS, what do they run in the 1/4 mile?

I saw an article on a Joe Gibbs edition Silverado SS and if I remember correctly, I think it ran in the low 12's. But it obviously had some upgrades compared to a regular SS.

Silvy SS is slow comparatively, I think it ran high 14's? Joe Gibbs' trucks are supercharged.

I have seen from 13.2 (window sticker still in it) to 14.8 (spinning half track) for stock ones. Most that can launch run mid 13s!

they seem to trap about 99-103mph i seen and run anywhere from lower 13's to high 13's some in the bottom 14's

depends on driver

but to beat one ur gonna need some work
to hang,
ur gonna need full exhaust/headers and mild stall and some 3.27-3.45 gears if 9bolt, 3.23's-3.42's if 10 bolt rear.

if its true, which i will find out, my car trapped 100mph in the good weather with just headers/exhaust. some other guys have said they hit 98-99 with similar mild bolt ons... add some TPI stuff and get that up to 103mph or so. that will hang in the roll races

Car: 1989 Formula 350 / 2000 Lightning
Engine: GM HO 350 Crate (Vortec headed w/TPI) / SC 5.4 330
Transmission: Rebuilt 700R4 (Raptor Rebuild Kit)
I own both of these (89 Formula 350 TPI & 2000 Lightning)...Now with my Formula running the GM HO crate 350 (melted the L98 with Nitrous) with the TPI base vs. my Stock Lightning....NO CHANCE IN HELL!!!! The Lightning would walk away from it. I have yet to bring the Formula to the track, but that will change in a few weeks

I love both rides, but the best (and most fun) ride is the Lightning.
