Ran a friends 80's shortbed chevy
we went to the track this weekend and on the way, i ended up getting a run with a friend of mines 80's pick up
its got a new 350 shortblock with like 9 to 1 compression, vortec heads, Lt1 cam and edelbrock intake. not sure what gearing and everything else.. .. he has run a best of 13.58 at 99mph and is consistant 13.6's 13.7's at 97-98ish
we go from about 60mph and he goes as soon as i went wot, so i get a half car jump.. his nose is at my rear end
he climbs back to about dead even, then goes about my nose at his front tire...
85mph comes round and i start CREEPING past him..... 90ish we shut down.... my nose is sticking out like 2-3 feet on him LOL
great runs and very even
and my new best trap speed today... 100.87mph

sounds good man. buddy of mine has a 79 shortbed w/ 80 body 4wd adn he just finished frame off resto it nice but not like show but nice. well he has 350 4 bolt main that was rebuilt in mid 90's bored either 40 or 60 over but i think its 60 and he just put on longtube headmans to 3in catco cat w/ stock y pipe (kinda restrictive considering in one point its alomost flatens out) ending right behind cab sounds ok. but hes got 4sp too and thats about all done to it preformance wise. i want to run him once he gets his new carb since his old one craped out and woulnd pull past 65mph

i was surprise to hear how mild this guys 350 was.. just a vortec headed 350 shortblock with a LT1 cam, which aint much bigger than a L98 cam, from like GM performance parts... ur replacement caprice kinda shortblock.. nothing special. edelbrock intake, not sure which one, and a 750 carb which is abit too much but it runs good
his truck runs mid high 13's.. not bad at all.
if your buddys truck is 4wd and just a mild 350, it might be mid 14's or so.

From those times are you sure its not a Hotcam? If not he can def hook real well.

he cuts 1.9x 60 foots and is geared well.. the truck gets off the line well.. lots of bottom end
its def a LT1 cam.. i was shocked when he told me that. i seen him run like 4 times now.. truck is strong. vortec heads make good power even with small cams. a hot cam would really run well in that truck..
a intake and big cam with his 750 carb would probly go 12's easy

LOL i'm tryin man... i have way more than enough mph to beat that, but i'm having problems gettin low 1.8 60 foots that i would need to cut those times. its frustrating... i should be able to beat that 13.89 easy. my trap is up 3mph or so. i just need to get the launch down. i cut two 1.93's and only mustered a 14.03 at 13.98. frustrating... lol
i'm hoping thats the case that i need to cut a better 60 time. cuz that truck is in the mid high 1.9's and running 13.7's all day long at 97mph. so wtf... whats up with my power band?

well i'm not spinning.. my tires chirp loudly when spinning and i'm not feeling spin or hearing it. the car is cuttin decent 60's... in the low 1.9's but have more in it. i just cant seem to find that sweet spot for the launch. i'll get it down someday.
it is dissappointing so far that i am not deeper in the 13's but i think its mainly because of me driving it. not sure. i figured 1.9 is good enough 60 to get in the 13.8's for sure. guess i dont have the power but i'm trapping 100mph?? my mph is up 2 in the 1/8 but i cant beat the ET. up 3-4 mph overall and i'm still consistant 14.0-14.1

The weather and conditions effect a cars performance as well. My car could most likely go faster with a better driver beacuse I don't have that much experience with racing.

Hmmm, I don't know then. Like I told you before, I would consistantly run traps of 105-106 and was running 14.1-14.3's all the time. The one time I tried to shift as quick and careless as I could was the time I ran the 13.8. If you had a manual I'd say it was your shifting since you've got a solid 60' time.

i think its the right lane... its off when my car runs thru those beams... there was a discussion about it in the drag racing board. basically 87 TA said its the fact that our cars have long and low front ends and the airdam might trip the light early in the right lane... he's experienced similar trap speed variances

i find it funny how the track does that to me tho... cuz two times i have trapped 95-96.6 with the 2.77s in the right lane... every other run was 91-93.
left lane seems to be my lane, but i'm SO used to the right lane, i dont cut as good 60's and get as good reaction times in the left lane... LOL
i ran two GT stangs, a 99+ and a 96-98 it looked like. my ET and trap were better by 2 tenths and 3-4mph but i couldnt leave the line quick enough, although it wasnt the most important thing on my mind, but i ALWAYS wanted to run a GT stang to see how i do.... now i know i'm about even to a properly driven one or one with few bolt ons
