Yes, he will beat you. I had one and the Z24 is not a slouch.

Re: 305 4bbl VS. .....

Edit: My car was a stick, the auto might give you a run, but manual will probably beat you. The 3.1 made 140 with not as much drivetrain loss as your rear wheel 150 (Both at the crank).

I took on a '94 z24, v6 w/ 5 speed, and we raced from a roll, and i only got 'em by a 1/2 car. I have a '88 camaro with a smogger 350, its got an intake, carb and cam. The only issues i had were 2 melted spark plug wires, a cracked spark plug, all the pushrods were bent, and two of the pushrods were completey gone.

Who the hell races a car with 16 bent pushrods?

EDIT: Sorry, I meant 14 bent pushrods. I didn't realize two of them were MISSING.

I didnt know that they were screwed up untill i tried to time it. Tried for 6 hours, couldnt get it, pulled the valve covers, and saw the rockers were loose, the pushrods were bent, and two fell in. I also didnt know 'bout the plugs and wires till i checked because i was shocked a stock cavalier kept up with me.

He has obviously never been in anything fast if he thinks his Z24 is "super fast." I really hope you win beacuse its a sad day when a Camaro loses to a Cavalier.

The 3.1 Z24's were faster than most stock 305 3rd gens. Likewise, I have never lost to a stock 305 3rd gen in my '05 cavalier (non Z24 model but ecotec cars run the same times as their predecessor did).

tpivette89 ran his stock '05 j-body and clocked off a best of 15.83 at 88.59mph with what he felt could be improved upon.

That is faster than 95% of all stock TBI and LG4 cars. The '96 through '01 Z24's with the 2.4 would also beat the same 3rd gens. A good friend of mine use to beat my LO3 on the highway with his stock '98 Z24.

So there have been many sad days for 305 camaro owners and it has been hapening since the last 15 years of the Z24's production as well as with the '03 through '05 Ecotec cars. Welcome to 1991.

Yeah I know they are faster than the 305 cars, except the later lb9's with the 1LE or G92 packages. I was just trying to figure out why that kids friend thought his car was that fast. I would say...........Anywhere in the 11's=Super fast
low-mid 12's=Fast
high 12's low 13's=really quick
mid-high 13's=quick

Agreed, I should have mentioned this.

Most likely because it is his first car and with a broad powerband it is faster than the mini van that mod used to let him take out. When you are 16 you are easily impressed by your own butt dyno. I was too at one point.

I thought an LG4 was pretty quick at one time. Then I went ahead and got a real motor.

Same here. Although I could hit those shift points pretty quick with the 5-speed.

LG4's are quick from a dig up to 30mph, so just make it a short race (that's if you have higher gears though). I used to have many sad moments when I tried racing when I was already going around 20mph.

the mph shows mid - low 15 sec potential with a good launch, but i cant launch FWD to save my life. my 60ft was a horrible 2.45 on that run

The 3.1 5 speed cars are damn impressive. It would give a run for its money on the highway with any 305 or even some 350 cars.

i my self raced a 2.8 berretta gt.. and lost by 2 feet.. when i was bone stock, he had a M5.
they are quick, and the worst part was he kept up with me past 130... 2.8s/3.1's they are light, and quick you would loose 1/4 maybe you could take him in the 1/8

I don't think he can take him in the 1/8. When I was still in high school my friend had a earlier year cavi he had the exhaust gutted and was killing turbo supras, GT mustangs (gave him 2 cars) and 305 camaros out the ***! All he ever did was race a 1/8 distance thats where his car made power, man did he make some money with that ride so did I.

Well that was many years ago that one your talking about might not be as strong if it hasn't been well kept.

If you race with any stock LG4/LO3, I'd say expect to get burned by pretty much any car these days. Step up to the plate, and start doing some mods or "get a 350."

Man you need a torque convertor and gears too! I have a 2000 stall if your interested I'll let it go cheap. I also have 3.23 gears out of a 2002 SS. You can get them both for a $100

You, my friend, are awesome. Anyone who races while missing pushrods is awesome by default. I am STILL laughing about that. A lot of funny qoutes on this board today!

For the thread starter: I recommend those, if you know someone who can put them in. They will be a good starting point, and $100 is a good deal.

Thats why my LG4 is going to become a boat anchor, and a 355 will sit between the fenders.

Nice name.

I hear they also make excellent powerplants for unneccesarily overpowered lawnmowers and go carts.
