86 Z28 vs 2005 Corvette

From a 25mph roll to 100mph, I pulled 2 car lenghts ahead. Those Vetts are not as fast as the 2002-2004 Z06 Vetts.

You're correct, 405 hp Z06s can still take down the newer base 400hp C6

From your sig I can see this happening, especially if the '05 was an auto or an M6 with a bad driver. Good kill!

Good kill...I think your making a little bit more HP and without a doubt more torque than a stock LS2..

ive driven 02 and 03 z06, ive also driven an 05, the c5 z06s are indeed a little faster than the new c6's, but the c6 z06s are just beast.

Interesting... how does the torque curve compare between the ls6 and ls2? Since peak power is nearly the same... i wonder what makes them a little slower.

Thanks guys! I love suprising the Vett owners and seeing the look in their eyes from this old 86 Z28 crusing on by them while I'm smiling at them and waving good bye.
I'm going back to the dyno in the next 3 weeks to find a little more power and to get a longer power curve after 5200rpm's.

Good kill! You'd be amazed at what those auto c6 (or stick) cars will do with a tune....

I can vouch for that... the torque management kills performance... drop it to around 30% and its a whole new car....

good kill. I really get a kick out of a $50,000+ car losing to a car thats value is usually less then $5,000.

GMHTP maganzine did an engine dyno comparison between the two and the LS2 makes peak power sooner (not by much) but the LS6 made far more total power. On an engine dyno the LS1 made 402hp the LS2 made 403hp and the LS6 made 460hp. The LS6 is a monster in stock form and is horrendously underrated. I have seen a few races from a roll and a pre '04 ZO6 will slightly edge out a new C6. The new C6 cars are basically on par (they are lighter) with the '01 thru '04 ZO6s'.

Why? So you build a monster motor and slap in a thirdgen and suddenly it's a better car than a 'vette or similar vehicle? Please. Horsepower and straightline performance is just one part of a complete machine. Take that monster thirdgen with 500hp and get it on an autocross track or put it under some hard braking OR better yet the overall quality and reliability....so...yeah...lol

By the time you have made a thirdgen into a car that is as nice as a Vette, you've spent close to 50k anyway...

There is no comparison.

I don't think GM has ever rated a performance car properly

They're always underrated

Yeah but for the average joe that will never own a 50k car and could car less about how well a car will autocross a straight line is all that matters! A thirdgens handling ain't as good as the vette's but its still a good street worthy performer.

True, I'm in no way saying a fast thirdgen is junk or anything, hell I love seeing them but "laying the smack down on a $50K car" is funny considering that said $50K car offers TONS more than just raw horsepower. That's the point I was trying to make

what I was trying to say is that if somebody spends 50 grand on a brand new super great ,awesome, shiny corvette they would be dissapointed if they lost a race to a car with old technology.
