Haha, oh look another maro vs mustang thread
Been looking around but dont see much for info on what the 97-98 Gt's run in the 1/4...
So basically theirs this really cocky guy up here with a 97-98 mustang GT that really needs to get put in his place.
The car is bone stock 5spd with the exception of an aftermarket exhaust which i believe is a flowmaster.
What do you guys figure, will i set him back in his place with my new motor?
Hopefully one of these days he will stop being so cocky and actually line up with someone, he always chickens out when someone lines up with him by turning at the intersection...
I figure it should be a clean kill from a dig but i know even a tercel has me on top end!

You'll stomp him so hard he'll want to buy a camaro.
what cam do u have?
97/98 stangs are slower than ****. However IIRC, the 97 is the old body style with 225 hp, 98 is the new style with 240 having the non-pi motor, in 99 they upped to 260.
might be wrong. they're all slow anyway. 97s ran 15s lol. 99-04 can run mid 14s and take full bolt ons to hit mid 13s on average.

You'll defenitly put him in his place. You would tear him to pieces
Like everyone else said, 97 and 98 mustangs are jokes.

High 14s at best... Catbacks do nothing other than make them sound good. Now a PI swap and all the bolt ons and the car could run mid 12s, but I doubt he knows that or would even try!

I dusted a 4.6 mustang from a 50 roll in my mom's 2002 mercury sable platinum edition(only like 200HP) LOL.
Comp XE268 cam.
Hmmm looks like i should go for a run if stops pu$$ying out of a race...

My buddy swapped a 98 4.6 into his 99 v6 auto stang (now a 4.6 5spd 8.8w/3.73s), and did the PI swap, and it made a hell of a difference. He has other bolt ons too. Runs real good.

The PI swaps on those cars work well, merely because of the compression it gains. This is why a non PI motor that has been converted should make more power than a PI motor. Both are capable of 260+ rwhp with stock cams, and much more with good cams and motor work.

the best i've seen (99-04 SOHC GT) was 280 rwhp with stage 1 cams, every bolt on and dyno tuning on the stock bottom end.
imo an sohc 4.6 isn't worth the time of day.

98 had 225.
