Hey guys, i got my first official kill yesterday at about 11pm on the way home from Wendys. I pulled up to the stoplite when the 944 comes up next to me on my left, and i took a quick look over to see the driver and our eyes met. He threw a few revs at me and I decided what the heck, because my car isnt exaclty top modded or whatever.
Needless to say, due to a crappy launch/shifting/whatever, i took the porsche down and i started to slow down after a few when he did one of those ***** fly-bys lol. Me and my friend just laughed at the gaping dent he had on his rear end and broken tail light.
Just thought it was pretty cool to say I beat a porsche.

There are plenty of jokes about Porsche owners being cocky, but it's most evident in the 944 cars. They're mostly slow, old, POS's that some high school kid bought and thinks they're fast because of the name. Good kill.

Congratulations. That's true about kids (and some immature adults) thinking the name brings them speed and power. The other driver probably didn't realize that he was driving Porche's version of the Chevette. If you see him again, whip the car around and try it in reverse. He might have a chance then.
Yeah, it was all good fun.
Today thought was a different story. I thought a chevy impala was trying to catch up to me so I throttled it and it turned out to be an undercover cop trying to pace me! I was going 60 in a 45 and I got pulled over. I was acting like i was really sad/nervous/regretful and i gave the officer my PBA card and he asked me why I handed it to him. He went back to his car and i was sure that i was screwed. After a few minuites he came back and told me he was keeping the card and that he looks foward to catching me in the future! I was so scared and happy at the same time, and I will now only race cars that I KNOW are not cops/crap!

I was very close to buying a 944 instead of my camaro. After some research I basically concluded that 944's weren't really considered "Porches" by serious Porche fans. I guess it was one of the more poorly designed Porches.
Sweet kill man.

maybe this is a stupid question but what is a PBA card?
sweet kill though its nice to put those german car owners in their place from time to time.

I was scared because i have already been pulled over twice and already have 2 points on my liscence due to speeding, and while I am still living with my parents going to high school (even though I paid for my car and pay for insurance/gas), i'm sure my keys would have been taken away or I would have alot of restrictions. Plus, I would receive a fine from the state and have to go to a manditory school driving school because I would have 4 points (If i went to court AGAIN to reduce the ticket, which was hell).
A PBA card is handed out by police officers, stands for Police Benevolence(sp) Association. Cops dont just hand them out, you have to know people, and I had a 2005 card so I guess they really dont care about the year you get it. Its almost like a get out of jail free card unless you are really commiting something terrible. Mine was taken away and the officer told me he was contacting the person who original gave the card out (like I care).

Glad you cleared up what the PBA card was. I was thinking it stood for Pro Bowlers Association

I was thinking it was something like prepaid legal. Man up and take what you deserve instead of trying to weasle out of it like a puss.

Dont say crap like that because I guarentee you would not be "manning up" if you had one of those cards as well.

I wouldn't use a card like that like a damn *****. You're bitching about 4 points! I lost my license in high school (red license for 4 months) and have had at least ten tickets that I've paid for in full. Don't tell me that I won't man up to a traffic offense that I was guilty for. You have to grow up sometime.
It was a residential area (even though it was a two lane road) and I was going 15 over the limit so that qualifies for the 4 point and the fine of about 250$ (not exaclty sure what it is but i know its in the 200 range). Under 15 mph over the limit is 2 points and 110$, which is what i got my first ticket reduced to after going through the court.
----------
I've already manned up once and it's not fun. I went through the court alone for about 5 hours as other people's messed up lives needed caring as well. Especially when I am trying to buy things for my car and working for about 7.50 an hour I'm not going to be throwing money at armed tax collectors when I have a chance to get out of it.

a few years ago i was driving down route 80 here in PA (going to visit my girlfriend in bloomsburg at college) when I looked at my speed i was going about 125mph, passing people like they were standing still. I decided to slow down for some odd reason so i slowed to about 90. then out of no where i saw a state pooper waiting for some one to be speeding, as luck would have it, that was me. he pulled me over and asked the normal questions. after all was over every one that i passed a little while ago was laughing at me and passing me like i was standing still, well I WAS. i got 4 points and a $150 ticket
the speed limit was 65, i was clocked at 25 over, this happened to me 2 times in about a 3 month period, only the second time i was on my way home from my gf college. both times i was slowed down to 90, both times 4 points and $150 ticket
after 8 points i had to retake my license test to have points reduced. i have learned my lesson for the most part, i no longer try to go ***** out on the highway (without a radar dector)
it sucks but i can only blame my self, i "manned up" and took my bad luck

I don't like passing people that fast at any time. It makes me nervous because I don't expect people to be paying attention to what I'm doing, so they could come over into my lane at any second. I try to avoid that. I also don't like going around people except on the left so I try to avoid that as well.

there is a company was that doing donations for the new york police chiefs benevolent association. maybe 15% of all donations made it to the foundation.
that doesn't include all the other donations we did through new york and new jersey. including crime stoppers, something about fire stopping and god knows what else.

Don't worry about it, man. If I had some get out of jail free card, you'd best believe I'd have grabbed it out of my wallet to show that cop so fast I'd have paper cuts. It's not a matter of being a man, or growing up. If I've learned one thing in life (which it's hard to say, I may not have) it's to take every advantage that's given to me and use it to the absolute fullest.
Also, as far as going fifteen over goes, I once got passed by someone in a pick up like I was standing still, so I wanted to see how fast they were going and gunned it to keep pace with them. All of a sudden his break lights come on, he locks up all four, I lock up all four, a cop goes wizzing past both of us coming from the other direction.
If anyone is interested, he was doing about 130 kph in a 60 zone.
Also, as a side note, when I get pulled over by the cops, stopped walking, found somewhere I shouldn't be I always do the same thing. Yes sir, no sir. You may say that makes me a puss, but a cop can either jam you up real good, he can ever nail you for doing something you weren't. The courts always believe the cop. On the other hand, if he so chooses, he can let you walk away. If it's the difference between walking away scot free of a hefty fine or worse yet, me with a set of those silver bracelets on, I'll treat you like you're the bloody King of England.

I'm not saying you're a puss for not wanting a ticket, no one does. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't feel comfortable taking advantage of the system, or some card or something. I can get lucky all day and not feel bad, but if I've done something that deserves a ticket, then I'll take the ticket and hold my head up when I pay it.

Part of my deal is being afraid of getting into more trouble than I already was. If I was a cop and I pulled some dumb kid over for speeding and he had the ***** to flash me some card, I'd give him max fines on everything I could think of. Then tell him I was going to let him go until he tried pulling that bull**** with me.

When I was on the two lane road (dead empty), this cop was accelerating and it looked like he was attempting to put the pass on me. I was not about to let an impala do that. So as I was increasing speed, he was one upping me by about a mph or two, basically egging me on. I turned off and he slammed on his breaks and followed me down the road a bit, so it looked like we were both going to the same place but he failed to cut me off. Thats when the lights went on and I realized that I am never accepting a challenge from someone I do not know or I know for SURE is not a police officer.
Was it wrong to speed? Yes. But as this is a race board and I guess i should look over my shoulder to see who exaclty is trying to pass me or not.

tickets aren't worth it. I've got 4 speeding tickets, an unsafe starting ticket (burnout), wrong way on a 1 way road and a stoplight ticket. Plus two tickets I went to traffic school for (both speeding).
So I've got seven points on my lisence and they actually suspended it for a little bit. But after I went to a hearing and pleaded with them I got put on probation for 12 months. If I get a ticket between now and december 12th 2006 I loose my lisence for 12 months (technically the last time I got a ticket was over a year ago but the system is gay).
That combined with all the fees and insurance hikes just really makes speeding not worth it.
For the record my fastest was 130 in a 65, but the guy was nice and wrote "90+" on the ticket.
So if you're going to speed and race.. check for cops first and don't do it in ****ing residential neighborhoods!!

944's really aren't all that bad. It's funny that Porsche owners won't consider them real cars, but the second they're at the track the smack talk stops. My dad's friend races in the PCA, it's pretty pathetic seeing a little 944 smoking things like 911's, turbo 911's, etc. Make no mistake, they're not exactly the best built cars out there, and they may not be the fastest in a striaght line, but they are beasts around the track as long as the person who owns/modifies it knows what he/she is doing.Originally Posted by hihighost

You really don't have to throw money at it. The newer late 80's models came with adjustable Koni Yellows on them along with a bunch of other stuff. Plus if you account the 247hp stock on the Turbo S cars, that ain't too bad considering the weight of the car, forget if you were to do a few simple things like a boost controller or a turbo back. Handling wise, I'd venture to say it's one of the best performing porsches there is, and the turbo ones aren't too slow either.Originally Posted by freestylzz

First car I ever owned was a '86 Porsche 924, picked it up for $1800 at the auto auctions. It wasn't fast but the car did handle well, was well balanced, and it was really fun to drive (top speed 121mph hahah). I'm sure the 944 is even better since its the higher model. But anyway, I sold my 924 for twice what I paid and thats how I got my first Camaro (the one in my avatar doing a L03 burnout haha). I guess I'm lucky, where I live there are no points, they got rid of that system a long time ago. Pretty much when you get busted the judge looks at your record and makes a call.
Member
I use to own a 924 and a 944. Both cars with very, very minimal modifications can be almost unbeliavable in corners. To date, after some simple mods I have not been in a more balanced stock car, and I have driven quite a bit of cars. They had an exact 50/50 weight distribution. Unlike a 911 which can be quite scary to drive at the limit.

Someone previously mentioned "serious Porsche fans" not considering the 944 a real Porsche. Well I don't consider them real Porsche fans, just badge ******. A real Porsche fan love 'em all for their handling and their performance and that indefinable something that just makes 'em a blast to drive. Someone who looks down on the 944 or its owner isn't a fan of Porsches, just a fan of a badge. You'll find that with owners of any expensive car (Corvette anyone?).

Yes, the 993 is a 911. The difference is one of marketing and engineering. The 911 was such a successful car, that like the Corvette they've kept the name unchanged for its 42 years of production. Internally, and recently publically in advertising they've used a different set of numbers. The original 911 was known by its internal project number 901. It was intented to be the 901, but Peugeot sued claiming rights to all vehicle models with a x0x format. So it became the 911.
So the earliest cars are type 901. Then came type 911. From there they used a alphabetical system to denote changes. 911 A-series, B-series, etc up to G or F. That brings you up to 1989. From there 1989-1994 911s are called the 964. 1994-1998 911s are called the 993 (the last of the aircooled), the 98-05 cars are the 996, and the current generation is the 997.
The 928 v. 944 is a different beast entirely. They both have Porsche design cues, but the 944 is a nimble, peppy 4-cylinder that's meant for serious corner carving. The 928 is a GT car, meaning it also handles well but it's meant to take the kind of corners you'd find on the Autobahn rather than at Watkins Glen. Size, interior, weight (2800 for the 944 vs 3600+ for the 928) are all different. I'm not really sure how else I can clarify it, but if you have any other questions I'd be happy to help. Oh, and don't look at a 968, it'll just confuse you more.
.951 is the internal designation for the 944 Turbo. Porsche historically has used different numbers for their turbocharged vehicles. 924 Turbo = 931, 911 turbo = 930, 944 Turbo = 951, 964 Turbo = 965. They dropped it with the 993, mostly because I think they're running out of numbers in the 9xx series.
Supreme Member
from what little I read on a quick glance is the 968 is more or less the new generation of the 944 but enough new to classify it as a new car
with the rest of the numbers you can call them either as their external public name like the 911 or their internal one which generally also can specify nto only the type of car but also help out with what specific generation of car as well.
did I get this right?

Yep, it's pretty much just a 944 facelifted with a few 928 styling cues. Definitely my favorite of the series. It's juuust right. If only they brought the 968 Turbo to the US.Originally Posted by rx7speed

You got it. It's like an FC or FD. They're all RX-7s, it just helps to specify exactly what generation.Originally Posted by rx7speed
with the rest of the numbers you can call them either as their external public name like the 911 or their internal one which geqnerally also can specify nto only the type of car but also help out with what specific generation of car as well.did I get this right?

Later 80s 944s is a very good sportscar although not much strait forward punch, the 944T can be nasty in a strait forward or highway race with very little basic mods it reaches 300hp and many off those are also on a diet so watch out dont underestimate them,we have them in abundance on Swedish highways and tracks very popular cars for direct import from Germany.
The creme ala creme is offcourse the 968CS on a track and i can guarantee that even the 911GT2/GT3 owners are freightened by there apperence there are no laughs or downgrading comments are thrown in there way.
Trackwise i can say that my Iroc dont stand a chance against a 944 on the track(Swedish tracks are short and many tight turns not sutied for hipower front engine v8 cars)even with some heawy trackmods i dont expect taking the 944S/944T/968CS down at the track.
Most Porsche owners i have met at the track are very nice people and they are surpriced and thinks its fun that a IROC is showing up for some track excercises.
Edit: bad taste yoke not suited for this board hopefully no offense taken
Best regards Mats
