What would I run??
I'm looking at buying a 1988 trans am with a carbed 350 and 5 spd trans. The car has 210,000kms in the odometer. What would I likely run in the 1/4 mile. Also, what was the horsepower and torque rating on that year and motor?

You would probably run about an 18 second 1/4 mile, JK... An 88 with a 350 is rated at 230 hp and 330 lb feet of torque. This car typically runs between a mid and high 14 second et between 92 and 96 mph. Some quicker and some slower. It all depends on mileage, track condition, temperature, gear ratio, driver, etc. etc. Did the owner swap the T5 in? Or did he swap the 350 in? Because You cant get a T5/350 combo from the factory. It was never an option.

Oh yeah, I just noticed that it has a carb on it. They never put carbs on 350's. Only the 305's came with carb. So my guesstimates are off on what the cars performance is...

I can't believe i didn't think of that earlier. They NEVER made a 350 carb or let alone an v8 carbs in 88. I might have been misinformed on the year of the car. 18s seems high to me. I had a 1985 305 carb which ran low 16s about a two years ago...and that motor had seen better days

Well right after I said 18's, I typed JK... Which stands for just kidding. You better look at that car a little more thoroughly and ask a lot of questions so You dont end up with somebody problematic hack-job. Just my

My bad...didn't read thoroughly enough. The guy wants 1500 canadian for the car. The body is in great shape, it's t-top, 16inch fiero style wheels and tires with good tread. The interior has rips in the seats, especially the back ones. For a price it comes with a parts car ('91 trans am front bumper, also t-top) which has a 4" custom cowl induction hood. What would you say these two cars are worth as a package?

i cant estimate what their worth without seeing pics of them! Rips on the seats are no big deal cuz U can find a full interior of decent seats for less than 200 bucks on this site. Try and post some pics of the cars on here, and U will get much better of a response... From me and others.

I'm not entirely sure how to post pics on this site yet. Once I figure it out I will post some

That car has the same color combo as my old 87 TA. LOL, Except mine had an auto 305 TPI, a lot of rust and big dents, the front ground fx were trashed, and I never got the car to run right. And I paid 1,500 American for that car!
I'd say for the price he's asking... Go for it! But Maybe You can even talk him down a little bit more. Just make sure he's got the title, and the motor isnt knocking or anything. And definitely look for major rust spots under the car. That cowl hood looks pretty cool on that one car too. Seems like a helluva deal to me though!

Aaaah. Please let me buy this car. You already have one, I don't, I'm also local. I'll even give you a commission to put me in touch with him. Be a friend.
Ps. Don't care about the quality of the engine - building a 455 Olds motor for it probably.
Maybe if you're nice to me about letting me get the car I'll give you the engine I take out? Not quite entirely serious but I really want a TA.

What would you run?????????
Why dont you plug all the numbers you have into IHRA Drag Racing, see what it runs stock, then add things like bigger TB, slicks, Gears, Cam, Blower, Turbo, N2, so on and so forth. You can try all the modifications before you spend a ton of money just find out you only gained a tenth!!!!!!

Either be patient, or step it up a bit and look extremely hard for one that might be quite a distance away. Manytimes there is a good deal real close but its not quite affordable. Just keep looking! Autotrader, cars.com, local classifieds, the local town, the third gen forums, etc... There are many affordable firebirds available out there! Just search and choose wisely. This community will give You all the advice You need when it comes down to it...
