My Idiot friend in school is saying hell beat me in a either a 97 or a 99 Silverado 4x4 with a TBI lol

So assuming it do's have the lo5 were looking at 200 horse and 300 foot pounds

Vs.

My l98 + 5 speed ( Clutch is questionable lol)

I think ill destroy him but.. who knows i figured id like your opinions and i know to race him from a dig.

Trucks in general are a joke when it comes to mid/top end... he might take you for a few feet because of high gearing or if he launches it in 4Wd, but it should be laughable after that... I'm sure it's plenty heavy.

Just don't power shift it, you should be fine... rear end isn't gonna blow on street tires unless it's already got problems.

if its a 99' it will have the gen 3 sbc (lsx) and the 5.7's have 325HP, they're decently quick, but you have the L98 and a 5 spd you should be alright

His truck is not TBI but instead the 260hp vortec motor. I take it you swapped in the T5 in place of the auto? Your car will be faster at any and all speeds than his.

my moms 96 ran 14.8 in 1000 ft so i would guess they would be mid 16 1\4 mile trucks

Don't under estimate the Vortec 350 trucks. My stock 1997 Express Conversion van ran mid 16s. 350 Vortec, 4L60E, 3.73 gears

With the new 350 vortec, Production LT4 cam, Doug thorley headers, and a S10 converter, it has gone mid 15s @ 94 mph, ALL 6,000 lbs of it.

i got a '96 5.7 VORTEC, you'll kill it, my '93 escort GT (127 hp, but way way lighter than my truck) will beat it, and my 5.0 T-5 camaro will burn that pretty easy. Even if he beats you on a launch you'll get him at the 30-40mph range, + if he beats you all the way to 100, then you really have him. He has a speed govenor that cuts him out before 100 unless he programmed it, but even then it will take weeks for him to get there.

I don't think it would. Unless it's modified it will run 15.5 in the 1/4 (pulled this off the internet) an auto l98 will run low 15, high 14(i think), close though. I like the way those SS's look, wish i had one! Of course if that l98 is tired, which it probably is, you'd win, New to new though, you'd lose, barely. The f-bod has a bit of a weight advantage over a pick-up Drop the SS motor into the camaro and then we would be talkin......
