'80 Turbo TA vs me?
A friend of mine has a stock 80 Turbo Trans Am (Turboed 301) and is wanting to race me. I've done some research on these cars, and I'm pretty confident I'll take him. My car has the mods in my sig, a Jet chip (woo), a K&N open element (SS hood is functional), and a 3.23 posi. The road we'll be on is an unused road in an industrial park about a 1/8 mile. What do you guys think?

You are lighter than the 2nd gen f-body by a few hundred pounds, plus that 301 turbo is not very peppy at all. I would guess that you would beat him unless you smoke the tires. He will probably get a decent launch because he cant smoke the tires......lol

Re: '80 Turbo TA vs me?
Hopefully your friend will blow up the 301 (like I did) and then put the car up for sale so that I can buy it! If not, you may have your hands full. We beat carb'd 305 Camaros with ours and LO3s aren't much better, if at all.
P.S. Tell your friend to put a low compression 350 Pontiac with 6X 400 heads in to replace the 301. You will need to go to the machine shop and make a spacer out of an aluminum carb adapter to hook your turbo inlet piece back to the intake manifold. It works so good, you'll be looking for a bigger turbo!!

Re: '80 Turbo TA vs me?
I don't want him to blow it up...lol, but it would be kinda funny.
From what I've seen, these cars averages high 16s when they were new. My car (slow it be) runs high 15s. Where we're running is a little under an 1/8 mile, and from what I hear these cars have bad turbo lag. I wish he would just call me and set up a time so we can do this izzle.

Re: '80 Turbo TA vs me?
Well, after trying to drive some in the snow, I found out I don't have a posi any more...well, at least a functional. I'm back to one tire at a time.

Re: '80 Turbo TA vs me?
I prefer to think of it as having the power and traction well matched...haha
May not be very fast (yet) but it's still a fun car.

My one leg wonder spun at the track too. It's crazy spinning on the auto-x.
No, I haven't raced him yet. I told him I knew a place and gave him my new cell number (the conversation was online) and said I was ready when he was... still waiting.
