Looking for opinions on how fast I will run?
Just wanted to get some opinions on how how fast you guys think my car will run in the 1/4? Obviuosly it all depends on track condition, weather and my driving. So let's assume this is the best case scenario.
I have an 85 Camaro z-28 with a ZZ4 350 (just the way it came from GM),Holley 750 vac. secondaries (with choke horn milled off),iginiton is Summit Racing version of MSD 6AL with MSD wires and rapid fire Platinum plugs, Hooker shorty headers,3" Flowmaster single exhaust into Flowmaster muffler with dual 2.5" tailpipes,T-5 trans with billet steel flywheel, Hayes clutch (basically stock), stock 7.5" rear with Auburn pro posi and 3.73's. Suspension is stock for now wxcept for the stock LCA are boxed. Car will eventually have sub frame connctors, better axles , torque arm and suspension parts. Car has full interior and all steel body. I will probably be running Drag radials so I don't blow up the rear. Car currently has 17" SLP wheels on 275/40/17 tires on it. So I will probably be running them on the front with some 275/60/15 on rear. I am thinking low 13's high 12's. So let me know what you think. Thanks

Has anybody on the board have the same set up as me or close to it and if so how fast have you ran with your car?

i'd be happy with a high 13. what are you running for a tranny/converter?

sorry, can't hardly focus my eyes tonight.
the zz4 has alot of potential, but also leaves ALOT on the table with camshaft selection and whatnot. the 750 VS with a t5 is a bad idea. instead of mechanically opening the secondaries with your foot via a linkage on the carb, you're relying on the engine vacuum to open the secondaries after every shift. a 650 double pumper would do more than you think for your combo.
i stand by my original thoughts though. unless the car is super light, i think a mid-high 13 is about the best you're gonna squeeze out of it.

I have gotten a lot of low -mid 13 guesses from people. A friend of mine had an 80 malibu with the same motor but had the "Hot" cam kit in it , with 3" exhaust, T-350 trans, unknown converter and 4.10's and he was running 12.40's. I just wonder why such the big difference in times unless the cam and converter he had did the trick. That car was a full interior all steel car

Re: Looking for opinions on how fast I will run?
I took the trans am I just sold to the drag strp this fall and ran 13.20's and that was leaving the line real easy because I could not get any traction in first. My motor was dynod at 375 at the crank, TCI 700r4 2200 stall, 373 posi and 255 bfg radials out back, not drag radials! If you change your carb as stated I think you could hit high 12's maybe with a good launch and track conditions. You have about the same HP as my car had but with drag radials you should be able to hook much much better than I did. That alone should shave 2 tenths off your time.

High 13's is about it. I had the same setup in my old 84. The best that car ran was 13.75. And I can drive a stick too. Im surprised that car didnt break. Anyway, without a cam swap and some head work, thats all she wrote.

on drag radials and that T5 with a strong clutch with upgraded suspensino with proper shocks will probly cut low 1.8x 60 foots. thats good for mid 13's in decent conditions.
T5 doesnt like clutch drops so go easy..neither does the 10 bolt rear. If you can get launches down in the low 1.80-1.84 60 foots and shift fast, you can get lower 13s like 13.3's at 103mph. Provided the car weighs no more than 3400lbs and race weight is under 3600.
You need good weather tho. if its near sea level conditions and 40 degree temps, with a 1.7x 60 foot you should pop off 12.8's at 104-105 with a raceweight of 3400-3500.
My car basically put out 320ish hp on crank, which is 25 shy of most ZZ4's. I ran 12.9's at 103.8 on a 1.71 60 foot in my stalled auto/3.42 gear car. it weighed 3460 or so with me in it. slicks/skinnies with a DA of 188ft in 49 degree weather. would run mid 13's on 1.8 60 foots in the warmer summer air. high 1.7's put me 13.2-13.3 in warm 70 degree air with DA near 1800-2000ft.

Re: Looking for opinions on how fast I will run?
Best 13.6 worst 14 flat. You have almost the same power as an LS1 camaro (remember gross to net ratings on the engine). You guys are close the same in weight, he has a better tranny and rear suspension if you are stock. Plus he is injected for better response and efficiency as where you are carbed. I would ditch that carb get a double pumper 650. Then I would throw on some larger rockers to give you more lift for more RPM's. You have gears which is good though.
Run it and see. I am guessing you run a 13.82 @ 100.9.

more lift will not increase the rpm range, it's duration and lobe seperation that really determine that.

Re: Looking for opinions on how fast I will run?
But wont increasing the lift allow for more fuel and air in to make more upper RPM power? I dont claim to know a lot about engines but I figured having the valves open longer it would allow more fuel and air for more upper RPM power. With steeper gears I figured it would help. Couldnt hurt, well yes it could, it probably would take away from the low end but with gears and a high stall you wouldnt care.

if your heads flow more with more lift, yes you can make more power but at ALL rpms generally.
