Legitimate Threat?

I would like to get a general concensus from everybody if I could. I am personally a Chevy/Toyota fan. I know, I know... what a mix right! But I was just wondering of all the Japanese cars what is the one that you all find as a legitimate threat in a street race? I love the Camaros and Chevy SB V-8, but I also love the inline 6 2JZ-GTE in the Supras. Im screwed up I know but I respect all ingenuities and there both phenomenal engines. Just curious to see what you all have to say.

MKIV Supra, not so much of a threat since I know I'm going to get my a$$ handed to me.

Re: Legitimate Threat?

A actual common threat that i have personally found that one runs across out here on a regular basis is a EVO 9. I had one right beside me, he went 13.1 with cold aor only, but AWD is the catch from a dig. As for everything else (supra, 300z twin turbo LE) and things of that nature, you dont see them allot, so i dont really include them.

Re: Legitimate Threat?

Obviousely the 3000GTs, RX7s, Supra's etc... but like said before not a ton out there.

The real threats are the EVO's, STI's, and really any other turboed small motor. There are fast Mazdaspeed 6's, 3's, Subaru Legacy GT's, Eclipse, Talon etc, etc, etc...

In my area, unless you have a solid 11s or faster car, there are tons of threats.

Hard to tell these days. I had a Nissan 240-SX tear me a new one last year headed to Raceway Park, only to find out at the upcoming gas station that he was running with an RB26 nestled in the engine bay. Other than that, no real threat....

Re: Legitimate Threat?

Well, the simple answer is a domestic is a more common threat than any import....unless you have a 305 TBI, then the civic is your worst enemy LOL!!!!

Re: Legitimate Threat?

Im stationed in San Diego, CA and on a daily basis I see the one Japanese car that I despise the most. The Nissan 350Z!!! I just hate it because everyone and there momma has one, just like a Mustang. Besides that, if you see one running around here, in order to get significant power gains they really have to have significant mods because that VQ35 motor doesnt take nicely to many mods, from what Ive read.

That's all too true. Watch out for cars with engine swaps. There are a lot of Frankenstein monster cars running around where I live. A 240SX with an RB26DETT, an old 240Z with an RB25DET and countless 240SX's with SR20's. There's two in my neighborhood alone! I've seen an FC RX-7 with an LS1. There's even a Miata with a Mustang 5.0 under the hood. civics and integras with engine swaps are pretty common here too. Theres an all motor civic hatch with a K24 (I think?) that beat my buddies' LT1 Z28.

Racing any honda or toyota is against my principals. Even if you race and win you look stupid by association.

Re: Legitimate Threat?

My Grand Am GT is a pretty good threat; I've beaten Mustang GTs from around the same year (2000-2005). Pretty dangerous for a V6; lord knows it'll go faster than I need it to..

Re: Legitimate Threat?

My SHO is a fun race for a 305 and the occasional VERY worn out 350. Until about 80. Unless its a stoplight to stoplight thing. My brothers GST is quite potent either way.
