1997 T/A M6 VS. 1992 Z28

ok so my friend has a 1997 T/A M6. I know it has headers. I don't believe it has anything else. ok I have a 1992 z28 with a vortec 350. G92 rearend. all power. so its kinda heavy. I think I will take the two sub's and the box out for the race. ok so basically what will it take to beat him? his clutch is bad. it needs a new one really bad. He can drive pretty good. he sometimes power shifts. what do I need to beat him or how close will it be?

IF all you have is the crate motor you're done. Hope that he fries his clutch.

advance the timing a bit, a really good tune up with some 8mm+ wires would be good. might wanna look into a lower temp thermostat. i noticed my car was a bit perkier after installing my 160* stat. same thing with the advanced timing. the car seemed to have a little quicker throttle response.

of course it can, if you advance it too far(in the 12-15 and up range). im not sure what the recommended timing is for TPI but i know for TBI it is 4-8* advanced base timing.

yea I figured I was just wondering if like 2 or 3* would screw it up. this is gonna happen probley this fri or sat. any other ideas? should I start from a stop or a roll race? I think I could get him off the linewith TPI and all that lower torque but he would catch me at the top end easy.

Re: 1997 T/A M6 VS. 1992 Z28

Go from a stop for sure. Practice launching your car and play with tire pressure. This will be the only part of the race that you will be ahead with what you have, you're gonna need full exhaust, upgrade/replace the stock tpi, and a stall to think about maybe beating him.

Just have fun with it and at least it will let you know where you are as far as a baseline for improvement!
