165MPH in TTA

I did a top speed run on an early morning freeway in Nevada. Please keep your comments to yourself if you disapprove of my behavior, I did this as safely as possible. Notice I was just "idling" along at 115MPH when I got on the gas
http://www.youtube.com/v/wPnZQhqe10I&hl=en

I guess I shouldn't call it a top speed run, it was still pulling hard when I let off!

Re: 165MPH in TTA

No way that was reading correct. It read 164 mph when you lifted the camera, yet the 18-wheeler slowly apeared and was easy to look at.

If you HAD been doing 164mph, you couldn't have been aiming the camera AND steering...

And a car only 2 18-wheeler lengths ahead of you IN YOUR LANE, but doing 164mph? You wouldn't be alive to post this.

TomTom mod?

Re: 165MPH in TTA

plus, they're all probably going at least 80 anyway. So really it's only like doing 80 and the cars are stopped. Plus he probably didn't just let off the gas, but applied some brake. In any case, GPS doesn't lie. The only way that could be faked is a frame by frame video edit. There are easier ways to inflate your own ego.

I wasn't inflating my ego.

There are mods that can be made to TomTom and even if the other cars were doing 80, coming up on them at double their speed, you aren't going to slow down that controlled, not from 165 mph.

I've had to do a 145mph slow down. Traffic/background comes at you WAY faster than the cars in his video, and slow down isn't that "gentle" as in the video.

I still call edited/fake video. Aiming a camera at the TomTom at 120+? Then re-aiming it slowing from 165?

Re: 165MPH in TTA

I agree with Stephen. The TTA was going pretty fast in the video, but 165-mph? I'd like to see the video again, but with the camera positioned both on the speedo, then followed by the windshield. Plus, who the heck wants to stare at a TomTom anyways, the whole point is to enjoy the video. Everyone hear already knows the TTA can reach those speeds, but I'd rather watch some pavement passing along with it, and not a TomTom for crying out loud....

Re: 165MPH in TTA

by "inflate your ego" i wasn't talking about the critics, but to the person who would fake a video to brag about going 165mph in a car that obviously can reach 165.

That being said, if the cam was on the speedo, we'd still have people not believing it, if it was on the tomtom, people wont believe it, if there was a speeding ticket with it written down that they got him going 165, people still will think it's a fake.

to some people, you wont convince them something is real until they're actually there. I see no reason in trying to convince those people.

I dont see any reason not to believe the video. If you bypass the speed limiter, there is absolutely nothing to keep these cars from doing 165. It's a highway in nevada, there's no reason to think he wouldn't be able to get it up to speed there, hell, i've seen people do over 120 daily on 295 over here in jersey and you rarely get an open stretch.

It's not like he's saying he's breaking 200.

Not necessarily true. OP needs to show footage through the windshield, then down to the speedo, rather than keep it dead set on the TomTom. Incidently, I wasn't there when this Supra went 228-mph in the Texas mile, but this video more than solidifies my belief that it actually happened, Click Here. Again, we all already know that the TTA can hit those speeds, so let's see some windshield footage next time out....

blah blah blah. This is the wrong forum for insights in public safety.

Next thing you know you'll be telling everyone on the street racing forum how there's no need for more than 140 hp or cars that go faster than 80mph because the speed limits are all below 80 and accelerating fast is dangerous and wasteful.

Not saying that I'd do this, but this is a street racing forum. By it's very definition it's an endangerment to public safety.

Well, in Mull-et's defense, the very fact that he kept the camera down below site, so as to not obstruct his vision, tells me that safety was definitely a priority. I'm not condoning those speeds with anyone, but hey, whatcha gonna do, ehh.....?

Re: 165MPH in TTA

I'm betting more people die in accidents street racing than people going > 165MPH by themselves.

Then again, a lot of people die getting hit by trains....

Before crucifying him for doing 165, I'd have to finish with all the idiots who dont use blinkers and cut people off on busy roads doing the speed limit, stop in intersections because they were too dumn to wait and see if they could clear it, ride the left lane like they own it, dont know how to merge into traffic, drive with distractions, and finally the retards who cant drive in any weather but dry and sunny. So i dont care about someone doing 164 on a nearly deserted road.

Not a fair assessment, the unlimited mph autobahn is one of the safest public roads in the world, yet how many kids (as well as pedestrians) die from street racing. Plus, he wasn't racing anyone, he just opened the engine up in a straight line. No swirving in and out of traffic, no screaming, just pressed, held, then released....

well there were other cars on the road and at that speed so many things can go wrong. the last thing id ever want to do would be kill someone just cuz i felt like messing around.

Agreed, but this type of behaviour is what really causes the majority of our accidents, though, Click Here....

Re: 165MPH in TTA

the moral of the story is : It's only acceptable to put you and others at risk when driving below 100mph for reasons of testing the car/driver.

Look, everyone knows that you should goto a track to race, test or otherwise push a vehicle to it's limits. This is a street racing board. Everyone making posts about experiences and not nonsense, has decided that on some level, they dont care about the risks. Disagree if you want with the level that which they stop caring or that they stop caring at all, it doesn't belong on this board. It's like having a bunch of Prius owners trolling the forum trying to get us all to convert off V8's.

I don't doubt the ability of the first car to ever be a Indy Pace Car, that ever paced with ZERO mods from the factory, that was easily capable of 150 mph with 301 hp, that now has 390hp, to achieve 165mph.

I just doubt the validity of that video.

I've stayed away from making my personal beliefs of going anywhere near that speed, at 10am in the morning, with traffic on the road.....

I've done my share of stupid driving, & paid the price. Believe me....I've learned the hard way....It's better to be gther late than not there at all.

you dont need massive horsepower to go 165, you need gearing to allow it at a viable rpm. With decent aerodynamics (which these cars have), high hp is not necessary.

grand am gt's can do 140mph stock and they only have 160 or so hp.

Me and my freind did 135mph in an old shitty 80's prelude when we were 16 , Most cars on the road right now without governors can easily do 120mph

Normally this would be the case, but there are parts in New Jersey, as well as New York, where you just don't wanna FU** around. Those who live in Suffolk County Long Island, as well as Middlesex County New Jersey, know exactly what I'm talking about....

Suffolk County PD will deffinately F*** you, even doing 98 at 2am on the expressway in a chevy lumina with no other cars in sight

As far as the video goes i was concerned with the tomtom jump 2-3 miles per hour at 160+. What does this car car top at? 190?

Re: 165MPH in TTA

Wow - some interesting responses !

1) Yes this video is real... listen to the sound of the car!

2) Look at my other videos of my car to validate its HP.

3) When I first gassed it going 110, there was no one for 1 mile in front of me. During the whole run, I passed to 18 wheelers in the right lane. When I hit 165, I had to get on the brakes because there was a truck about 1/4 mile in front of me. That explains the erratic camera move at the end of the video.

4) Yes, the car was pulling hard still, it should do 180-190 if I had open road. I think I hit 4800 RPM when I let off.

5) This is way safer than street racing, there was nobody near me if something bad happened and NO PASSENGER in my car. There were no cross streets for mini vans full of kids to pull out in front of me...
