What will i run and how much power do i have?

I have an 86 LG4 with a 9.5 compression ratio
Stock 10 bolt 3.23s
Stock 5 speed
Edelbrock 600 cfm carb
Edelbrock performer intake
Dual Snorkle Air Cleaner
MSD StreetFire HEI distributor
Accel ProStock 8mm wires
Flowtech Headers
Flowtech 2.5" y-pipe
No Cat
Dynomax 2.5" cat-back
No A/C
No Smog Pump
No EGR
Alston subframe connectors
160 degree thermostat
Royal Purple Synthetic Motor Oil
100 octane fuel

If a stock LG4 has 165 Horse Power, then about how much do you think I am putting out?

And if someone with just the carb, the intake, Open Element Air Cleaner and a muffler ran 14.9 then what do you think I will run?

Thanks.

Re: What will i run and how much power do i have?

why? not a big enough difference with just 2.5" exhaust? I ran 15.4 without the carb and intake and distributor swap.

How much difference will i see with a cutout right before where the cat is supposed to be?

Not to much of a difference. With my car through a 3 inch cat back I saw a .3 quicker. That was only because my exhaust was to small for my car.

Take all the crap off and throw the LG4 in a big dumpster. Then find a decent 350 or LS1. Trying to hot rod a LG4 makes as much sense as gold plating a pile of crap. Looks good, but still crap.

dude you have no idea how badly i want an LS1. I would love to take off 200 lbs off the front of my car and throw a 6 speed in there. But all i got right now is my 305. So until LS1, its 14second 305 all the way haha.

About the same amount of time it takes the average reader to read through your list of "Mods" in your sig.

High octane doesn't add HP, it has a higher resistance to detonation...that's it. If your not running high compression there is no point you will actually hinder performance. 9.5:1 definitely does not need 100 octane. Put 87 in the car.

I guess that taking a 17 second LG4 throwing some bolt on parts and having it run in the 14's is a waste, right? Even an LS1 can't go 3 seconds faster with bolt ons.

Your car needs a 3" exhaust, 3" cat, and headers....

Re: What will i run and how much power do i have?

Funny thing is at least this guy is hot rodding something with what ever money he's got. Eventually hell get that motor modded to hell and then every part on it can be swapped over to a 350 once he's more experienced and with the ability to swap the motor or afford it. Either way he can utilize all his parts, throw a cam and a set of heads at a cheap 350 and be good to go. For now he's obviously learning in the process with what he's got. You guys who flame are called flamers for a reason./rant

Josh with that 305 with a bigger can and some alrite heads itll run low 13's!
Time for a 350 my dude, honestly a running 350 on craigslist in south jersey was going for 75 bucks I almost bought it to work on. Buy that swap the block and heads, throw your aftermarket mods on it and you will be VERYY happy.

Heh, that was my thought too when I had a 305 and guess what, the only thing left from that is the dipstick.

Put a set of gears and a stall in it and watch the difference. That, and are you sure its tuned correctly? Whats the A/F ratio? How much total timing are you running?

Re: What will i run and how much power do i have?

the edelbrock 600 will swap over but won't be enough. The edelbrock performer isn't for high enough rpms of a cammed 350. The headers are too small. The exhuast will work but not big enough either. The distributor will work though haha.

I don't plan on a 350. Too heavy. I want an LS1. I like autocross and roadcorse more than dragstripes. I want a carbd LS1 putting out about 300 horsepower with a Six speed. I'm going for a 50/50 Iroc-Z. Or at least sorta close. 52/48 maybe or something. Idk.

And as for my original question. Will I run any faster than the other guy because i got the exhaust and distributor and cold air intake?

Im gonna get my car dynoed jsut to know how much power i have.

... you do know the LS1 is a 350 right? And they weigh pretty much the same as an older 350?

they dont weigh the same, lsx blocks are aluminum and so are the heads.
do what ever you wish to youre iroc. does youre car feel any faster/different since youre new mods? is it fun to drive? do u like it? well, thats really all that matters in this hobby. not to mention, thats one nice looking and clean iroc you have there. keep it nice, and enjoy it.

Re: What will i run and how much power do i have?

They can't weight hundreds less though , thats kinda what i meant, its not like getting a V6 or I4. But the mods arn't taking very well, runs sluggish and isn't any faster than the old stock L05 parts... Kinda pissing me off.... hard to diagnose problems if you think everything is ok....

What i mean is that is hasn't taken my mods well at all.... Its loosing performance... Is hasn't gotten any faster with my mods, i should be pushing at least 250 hp and its acting like it has 190... and its slower than it was with the stock L05 cam/heads etc.....

Re: What will i run and how much power do i have?

u might cut high 14s too many variables to list though... and although i love the lsx engine u might just want to stick with the traditional 350 aluminum headed swap u can get the motor i have it makes almost the same power at about the same rpms as an ls1 and didnt even cost 2k....swap patriot performance heads on to bump up the power and drop some weight and get a fiberglass hood and maybe a few other parts and u can get your weight split and power for a lot less money and headache then the lsx swap....just saying though....

346. 347 is a popular 302 stroker for fords.

viper, maybe make a new thread and link us to it describing your problems?

easily 100lbs less probably a little bit more. (iron block/iron headed gen 1) and they are technically a 346.

347 is the max bore for an ls1 and yes is popular in forged applications.

Re: What will i run and how much power do i have?

if you put an ls1 stock in your iroc youll have 300 to the wheels with nothing besides the swap easy. I have never heard of a car losing power buy adding a cam headers and other aftermarket mods, unless in the process you didnt install something correctly or damaged something you didnt know about or you need a good tune. Oh yea WHO told you lsx motors weigh the same as old iron motors?

I never said they weighed the same.... i said they were close, 100lbs isn't that much to me, to drag junkies sure down to the last gram but 100lbs isn't significant enough for me to say that an LS1 weighs tons less than an old iron 350 like lots of ppl do. Sure they are lighter but not by a hell of a lot..... and i'm creating a post now.....

Re: What will i run and how much power do i have?

yeah so my 305 just took a sh*t today. Its pouring out white smoke and leaking oil. I'm thinking of just going to 350 aluminum head swap.

So how much lighter are LS1s than generic SBC 350s???

Are 305s lighter than 350s?

How much better are LT1s than generic SBC chevys?
