92 rs vs 02ish mustang gt

it all started when i pulled up next to a 02ish mustang on 29. i came to a stop and i was talking to my fiance in the passenger seat when i look over and there are 2 guys in a mustang revving at me. i didn't pay them any attention and just cruised up to 40 mph.he stayed beside me and started revving and jumping next to me. They did this for a good half mile. it started to get on my nerves so i told my finace to hold on. i knew i was going to lose but i said the hell with it. i slowed down to 35 and the mustang followed suit. i click the transmission down in drive and floored it. we where side by side all the way to about 70 which i have to say surprised me. it all when down hill as i hit third. i finally shut down at around 95 and he had about 3-4 links on me. i knew the mustang was going to beat me but i was surprised i kept up for as long as i did.

92 rs = $4000? 02 mustang=$8-9000? Just saying, at least your car is most likely payed off! no shame ln running with a more expensive car up to 95mph. not to mention you had your fiance in your passenger seat not another dude!!!lol

Also remember, that money pays for more than performance...

but if someone is driving like a dink and trying to race all the time the other things that the money payed for dont really matter.

If he has the cold AC going, the 6 disc CD changer, and messing around with the power leather seats at the same time... doesn't that extra money matter?

to a degree you are right on this one but it still goes over a little better when it is a more expensive car that beats you. maybe thats just me? I mean no one wants to buy a porsche and get out run by a turbo honda on the highway no matter how much leather and ac they have! lol

Re: 92 rs vs 02ish mustang gt

I know the point your making, but most people don't buy cars for only one reason. Therefore when a cheaper car is better in one aspect, it doesn't sting so bad, knowing what you have is actually better all around.

I have beaten many more expensive cars, and I agree it feels great (When i was 16 I beat an LS1 Vette at the track 3 out of 4 runs, and man that felt great!) but thats just one area where the cheaper car is better.

The 'Vette driver probably had the AC going, was selecting a different CD, and was finding the most comfortable position with the power seat controls. Oh, and was 15 years old.

Actually he was in his 40s, and was a terrible driver. I had his timeslips to, he was in the 15s on one pass, then a couple in the 14s, then cracked an amazing 13.8! There are always reasons to win or lose, but a win is a win right?

15's in a ls1 vette? he musta had a flat tire or was color blind and didn't see the light go green. i mean, the ls1 vette's pushed more power than the ls1 camaros and trans ams and were 400lbs lighter or more. and stock ls1 maro's run 13.5's and the ws6 trans am can get lower. just saying...

back on topic, at least you didn't let him think you didn't have the ***** to race, though sometimes it can get annoying with everyone trying to race you all the time...good work.

I agree, the guy couldn't drive, but then again it did feel good beating a newer, more expensive car. Trust me, I know exactly what an LS1 should run!

Re: 92 rs vs 02ish mustang gt

Maybe 25thmustang can help me out here. Ive never driven a stock camaro but i have driven my best friends 01 mustang GT several times. In fact his car is the reason i built my camaro, b/c I though his mustang was real fast when i drove it the first couple times, and i just had to have a fast car to compete with him. But after building my camaro then driving his mustang again it feels like his mustang runs out of power, (maybe air) about 4k rpm. His mustang sounds real good, louder by far than my camaro, but by the time i feel like im really gettin into the gas and i go over 4k, it feels like it really gives out. On the other hand my camaro runs very strong to 6k rpm, probably further to 6500, but i have the 6k pill in my msd box to be on the safe side. Is this normal of the GT mustang? If your wondering about bolt ons or what he has. He has had a new exhaust put on w/o cats, and a cold air intake ... maybe.

Cam lobes could be worn down.

Had that happen to me once, what a mess. Intake lobes on 4 and 6 were ground down horribly, and the lifters were concave instead of flat.

good excuse to get a new camshaft though lol

Well it sounds like your used to your car which has a good 150 hp advantage on his. His is probably pulling fine, your just used to much faster!
