Oh... a 350 horse 327... I'm currently rebuilding/modifying one of those to put in my '85 Camaro. I just had no idea that it was called an L79.

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

I like how people take sides, yes i'm guilty too..

But its kinda pointless when alot of car companies are both import and domestic..

Example:

Dodge stealth is very identical to a Mitsubishi 3000gt,
Ford explorer as to the Mazda Navajo,

there's a couple others but i can't think a 3 am..

If someone could explain why i might actually understand lol

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

only import ive had was my first car. it was a volvo 240gl turbo or something like that. fast car, built like a tank and took out 7 rail posts like a tank, however the ditch said suck it and well i climbed out the sunroof. and walked away. my car took 3 hours to pull out from the ditch.

aside from that i currently drive a 98zx2 escort, its not a ***** has no stickers, no external mods, no annoyingly bright headlights or retarded looking tail lights. has a couple K's in the motor and smokes everything locally. but a front wheel drive burn out looks as attractive as that british singing sensation whos name escapes me.

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

My first import was a 1960 VW Beetle Baja. Fiberglass body. Was quick for a little 1200cc. Back seat was removed, no seat belts, original dash, steering wheel, and radio (AM only). Went into the Navy, came back, and the motor was seized. Had to let it go for $550. Was worth well over that, but eh...I'll get another one in the future.

Other than German cars, GM is the only company I'll buy from.

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

I was guilty of been one of those guys for a while with my first car ('86 CRX-Si)....and second car ('90 Civic Hatchback) for a small while. Had the loud exhaust and body kit, even the big tach. Then I grew up a little, realized it was hideous and stupid. Ripped off the body kit, but the stock bumpers back on, swapped to an HKS sport exhaust that was barely louder than stock, and swapped in a B16 with cable tranny. Miss that car, it was fun. Had a '93 Civic 4 door for awhile, it was terrible and falling apart, but got me around while the hatch was being worked on. Now my dd is an '06 Scion xA, w/ lowering springs and 16" Rota Grids. I've got my '91 RS for a good project and to finally see what the other side of the import vs domestic battle is like.

My current daily driver is a 2001 Acura CL Type S. 3.2L V-6 260HP. Thing runs 14.7's. Best car I've ever owned, by far.

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

i had a 2nd gen rx7 turbo 2.. a couple upgrades got boost happy blew the seals needed something a little more dependable. my last car was a 91 nissan sentra se-r. the thing was a beast. gtir jap spec motor.. turbo.. itbs.. alot of goodies. let it go due to lots of problems and always needing to run out for a parts. plus 9 points on my license in a little over a year. it was a huge money pit. always had issues. mustang and camaro doors used to get blown off on a daily. i love little boosted cars. im on the hunt for another. this time around im gonna do alot of things differently. sold that bought a 99 2 door tahoe (last year they made a 2 door) with tailgate and vortec 5.7. still have it.. 89k miles.. super clean. learned how to drive on a 53 chevy 5 window truck with a inline 6.. 3 on the tree. still have that 2. grandfather grandson project. nice wheels.. original guts.. matching numbers.. candy blue (should have shaved the doors). the camaro fell in my lap.. dude was hard up for cash and always wanted 1. i feel like king **** behind the wheel. ill prob have it forever. im going at it 100 percent. just about everything is getting upgraded. time to get a 2nd job.

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

I wouldnt call myself an "ex-*****" But I have owned a few less than domestic cars. Heck! FIrst car I ever owned was an 82 celica. Liked so much I bought another one in much better shape(Couldnt get the ladies in that rust bucket!LMAO) Always dreamed of a small block powered one. it will fit, but I never tried more than setting it in place in the engine bay. But Second ride and first I ever bought was a 71 2wd Suburban still have that one. Celica long gone. And unless you count the Probe with the Mazda engine.......I think thats about the only one. Lets see, Celica then Suburban, the K5 Blazer, then 93 Forumla,Probe, 2001 WS6, 88 T/A......yeah....thats about it unless you count the ones I bought and cut up for scrap!LOL I am not brand loyal when it comes to cheap ,back and forth ,beat up, haul off the trash, take the dogs to the vet, tear it up by accident, transportation. Right now mostly drive a 1975 Dodge D200. Hey a 3/4 ton for $500......what would you do?LOL

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

Well i guess i am guilty of being a current ***** but do dd's really count? I have a 1991 Celica that has just hit 215,000 miles and still going strong. i would never ever consider buying an import to modify. to get around town in the winter and commute to school the celica is perfect. I am guilty of stickers although they all say JEGS,Holley, B&M, NHRA, and USMC. My dad has been a mechanic for 30+ years and only buys japanese unless its a truck or some good ole American Muscle.

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

owned a 92 integra 4 door ls, back in 01, great daily driver, fun for those days, never let me down, but my first car was a 72 monte carlo in high school so chevy muscle runs in my blood

oh by the way i owned an 02 gsxr 1000 for 4 years, i don't consider owning a jap bike a bad thing. where else can you find 148hp in a 350 pound bike with 12k red line best toy i've owned and cant wait until i purchase my next gsxr 1k

The closest thing I ever had was a homebuilt Quarter Midget with a Honda GX motor in it. I have it when I was very very young so don't remember what size GX it was it was like a 180,200,250,etc. something like that. Besides that I never have or will own rice.

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

Ill admit at one point, I was close to going over the edge. Ive owned several imports. Wound up hating them all, except for a 90 something acura integra. And I was on my way to modding it, I just didnt like all the stupid crap in the magazines, and the whole too fast to furious attitude that the "tuner" scene seems to follow. Nice car, but it eventually lost a fight with a deer at 60 mph. Eh, whatever. Good riddance.

Ive always tried to stay with American cars, but you buy what you can afford. After the integra got smashed, I bought my Firebird. Ill never own another FWD, or 4 cyl. Ill drive this till the wheels fall off. And then Ill buy more, and put them on it. And if I have my way, we will never own another import.

Ive since redeemed my near fatal brush with ricetastic retardation, and become a die hard American Musclecar advocate.

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

I don't own a *****, but i will admit I wouldn't mind having a nice integra or even a civic(not hatch backs) and making it semi fast, not over the top though. My freind has a 98 civic ex and its actually pretty nice. They seem like a fun little car, not to metion EASY AS HELL to work on. but giving the choice between a new civic and a decent condition camaro, and I'll take the camaro every time.

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

is it so bad to jump into the high performance side of things??? my mom gave me her 65 chevy c20 truck, has a 283 stock 4 speed and stock 14 bolt axle, i'm buying an iroc with a l98 that was swapped to carbureted and I'm going to swap the trans to a t5 within a month of me buying the car. is it really a bad thing that i hate hondas???

oh, and btw on my avitar thats my mom's truck in front of mine, a 69 chevy c10.

usually parked behind my truck is my dad's car, a 2007 pt cruiser which i drive sometimes and my dad drives my moms truck seeing as she drives the van

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

My previous/current car list is...

91 GrandAm 4 banger auto. Slow, lame and airated block.

89 GrandAm V6. slow lame and every single accesory was bad, sold to junk yard for $50

89 Ford Aerostar. Best single winter car I have ever had. Wouldnt start when hot. Bought for $50. Sold for $50 lol.

90 Nissan Sentra, auto and 1.6L 3 valve engine. Slow as hell but as beat as it was it was my first experience with a light tossable import. I want an SE-R. The engine was rebuilt badly so I spent a few hours every saturday dropping the pan and retourquing the entire bottom end.

88 Buick Electra. Rolling death trap but it did it's job. I actualy sold it for more than I paid

96 Mazda MX6 LS ( my actual screenname sake lol, not the Chevy engines) Like the Nissan it's light and very fun to drive. I dont make any excuses for loving this car and i plan to never sell it. Why this over a Cavy or another GrandAm if I insist on FWD? Because those cars even in their best trim are numb and just plane boring. With out pig tires and big power GM cars are usualy un inspiring to drive.

It looks bone stock from the outside but it has larger brakes, larger rear sway bar, KYB adjustable struts, headers and exhaust ( Pacesetter exhaust btw, it sounds kinda raspy sometimes so I'm looking for a resonator to replace the short one it came with) Comming soon is an intake swap a turbo kit and cams.

90 Pontiac T/A, not much to say about it. i bought it as a project thinking it was solid and discovered quite a bit of rot. I have yet to burn an entire tank of gas in it yet and I have owned it for nearly 2 years.

Current mods are 24# injectors, TPIS afpr, TPIS 52mm TB and foil, 16" outlaw 2 wheels and locker diff already installed by previous ownre.

I have LS1 front and rear brakes and torsen diff in line a swap to black/ graphite and light grey interior with 4 G firebird seats (cloth) and 4G console.

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

Not so much a *****, but my first car was a 1992 Plymouth Laser(Same exact car as a Mitsubishi Eclipse) 5spd 1.8L

I really got into it and wanted to turbo it (lol I know now that turboing the 1.8L is near impossible) - I wanted to get a fart can and all the other wonderful ***** goodies. But before I did anything I realized what rice was and how useless it was.

So the clutch exploded, and it wasnt worth fixing so I went through 3 more cars and then finally got my 350 bird.

However just last week after over a year of sitting I fixed the Laser to be my DD. It's a pile but I love it for what it is. It was a perfect first car and It's one of those situations where I don't think I could ever let it go.

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

I've gone through three 3000GTs, 6 Toyota Supras, Two Honda Preludes (one with body kit, exhaust, all that stuff), a Datsun 240z, a Nissan Pathfinder, a Nissan 300zx, A 1997 Eclipse GST (probably considered rice, it had a weird spoiler on it), 1994 Eclipse GSX, A Mazda MX-6 and probably one or two that I'm forgetting.

Also owned several Camaros, two Firebirds, a 1971 Mustang Mach 1 clone, and a few "muscle cars".

Currently have two Supras, one (1988) that made 330~ horsepower on low tune, broke 500whp at higher, and gets 25-27 mpg. I'm making over 110 horsepower per liter, run pump gas, and get decent mileage. Not a lot of people can claim that. The other is just a daily driver (1989).

Working on picking up a 1982 Camaro this week, just to balance things out.

I live by a simple motto: Speed is speed. I don't care if it's powered by nuclear hamsters. 120mph is 120 mph. An 11 second car, is an 11 second car.

So I really don't get why people make such a fuss over "rice burners" versus..."corn burners?"

If it's got wheels and goes fast, that's all I care about. At the end of the day, that's really all that matters, right?

Although, I do somewhat understand the animosity towards those who spend tons of money on the appearance of their cars, and don't do anything to make them faster.

Then again....if buying wheels, aftermarket hood, custom paint job, and minimal performance upgrades gets you labeled as a *****.....how many Third Gens meet that criteria?

Just my two cents.

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

'89 Honda Accord
'93 Saturn SL2
'02 Saturn SC1
'99 Honda CR-V
'87 Firebird base model
'91 GTA

'89 accord- That accord was such a piece. I dumped 2 quarts of 5w30 into it a day because the RMS leak was so bad, and the carburetor was so jacked up that it would just randomly die on me. I'd push the clutch in and the engine would die. It liked to do that alot when I was making left turns with traffic coming at me, and when I had just come off the highway. Oh, and if you had the A/C vents on flow-thru with the windows rolled up sitting at a stoplight, the car would fill with exhaust.

'93 saturn- went through 2 trannys in a month
'02 saturn- slid on ice, right into a mitsubishi eclipse
'99 CR-V- the insurance check. bought it with 63k in 3/2005, currently has 174k, and is on the 2nd transmission. I can't stand that car. I drive it as little as possible. I look at it like I look at a hangover: I deal with it while I have to, then I'm happy when it's done.
'87 bird- with I still had it. Ruined moms driveway changing a head gasket, sat for a while, moms got sick of lookin at it, had to go. Still know where it sits though.
'91 GTA- work in progress. It's a money game right now

I have a few friends with nice imports, and I respect their cars because they are really nice, but I never get the same respect back.

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

Ive had my share of imports.
DD 88 Toyota Corolla SR5 coupe ( insanely awesome gas mileage)
92 eclipse
91 240sx se coupe
95 240sx X2
03 WRX
Isuzu Rodeo ( $200 dd and mud truck)---thanks to it I traded for the camaro.

The only mods were done on the 240sx which included full catbacks headers and intake and not to mention LSD from j30. Never really got into the WRX or the eclipse.

My 91 rs I have now im in love. Not my first domestic because ive had a 87 s10 and a 94 f150, but I always wanted a domestic V8 and have always loved the F-body style.

haha honestly, that's exactly what I think, if it's fast it's fast. but it's easier to make a v8 go faster than it does to take a 4 cylinder. I respect true JDM, but also love american muscle

Mine was a 94 Acura Integra, I only got it for the fuel mileage. My 87 Iroc was getting like less than 10 MPG, and the Acura was getting more than 30 MPG.

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

My Daily driver is a 93 civic EX coupe with a 95 integra DOHC GSR engine swaped in. I'm running a Drag T4-T5 turbo kit. I think thats the size turbo can't really remember, its about the same size turbo that was on my old chevy diesel. Its putting down just shy of 300 at the wheels. And it hasn't been tuned yet. I'm still running a crappy vortech FMU Riser thing. It seems to run real well with C5 vettes, and still gets 38 MPG!!!

But alas, nothing replaces the sound of 8 cylinders.

I've had 2 other hondas with engine swaps as well.

I had a 86 CRX with an 89 integra engine and full suspension swap. Went from around 80-hp to 135. Not much but in a car that weighs in around 1300 lbs. Its like a go cart on steroids.

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

Just an update on my "ricerness" I happened to be in a local U-pull-it and noticed quite a few old Nissans with the once coveted but now forgotten CA18DE engine in them.

This morning I found on craigslist an 88 Nissan sentra with rod knock with an asking price of just $200!

It's completely rust free no less Old Nissans rot like old fish in the midwest.

I figure I can get an entire swap from the yard for $250 instal it in the street over a weekend and with just an intake, exhaust, fresh valve springs and slightly more agressive cams I can have a 160-170 WHP motor with an 8500 RPM shift point in a shoebox like car gutted to less than 2000 pounds.

Counting odds and ends i figure a total of about $2000 is doable, with a lower shift point and some NAWSSS it might be a contender for the 200X challenge.

Don't shoot me , my daily driver is an '06 Kia Rio that I drive like a granny and get 40mpg with in all city driving. The money I save on gas goes towards my hot-rodded toy (Which I do NOT drive like a granny... he he)

How much $ are you spending on a car payment, registration, insurance, maintenance, etc. on the Kia?

Wouldn't it be cheaper to simply drive the 3rd gen more? Just spend more on gas, instead of all that $ on the Kia.

Forgot to mention that the camaro is continually "under construction", and has classic insurance (or something like that, can't remember the exact name) so that's only about $150 a year . No car payment, maintenance is no big deal. Getting mileage in the single digits in the 3rd gen gets expensive after a while , but it costs money to go fast

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

Never really owned any "*****" cars, but I have had imports. My first car was a bone stock 2002 Subaru Legacy GT. I loved that car because it was sporty and had a sunroof and everything. It had tranny problems though so we got rid of it. My current DD is a 2002 Nissan Xterra. That thing is absolutely unstoppable. Big, bulky and underpowered, but by far the best vehicle I've ever owned.

My first project car that I bought myself (those mentioned above were "2nd family cars" that my Dad bought as a backup that I just drove) was a 1984 Porsche 944. It was the only car that handled just as good if not better than a 3rd gen. Rode like it was on rails. Pretty damn quick too. My friend has a 944 Turbo and it's probably one of the sickest cars I've ever ridden in ever, it's so awesome. Only problem is that parts are ridiculously expensive, so I got rid of it and got my bird
