Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

I don't know if I'd consider an SVO rice. I mean, its a four cylinder and all, but they actually look pretty cool, and it was making more horsepower than the V8 when it came out. I've actually heard some with exhaust that doesn't sound half bad, and i hear that they handle ALOT better than the 5.0s. Driving one of those would be quite the guilty pleasure for me.

Is this "current rice" or "ex-rice"?

It has a narrowed 8.5 10 bolt and re-drilled front hubs.
Torque Arm suspension too... http://grannys.tripod.com/GSSshopmule.html

Interesting stuff Especialy the Caddy diff swap!

I always thought the Miata would have made a great Cobra style conversion candidate, I wondered why Shelby didnt jump on it (especialy after working on Omni's all through the 80's) but I guess he was gearing up the Shelby series project.

I've seen Ford DOHC cobra and intec swaps done and many many 5 oh's so it just seemed natural.

Heres another one I love... it has one of my favorite motors in it,

Did you use the stock LCA brackets or fab new ones?

Very nice car BTW even though I would have kept the weird spinning triangles

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

The rear control arm brackets came from a stock RX-7 rear, just cut off and welded to the 10 bolt.

If you are into spinning triangles, you might like this car i built...

It's a Dirt Late Model w/ a 13b based 4 rotor for power.

Here's a link to more info... http://grannys.tripod.com/4rotor.html

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

I had no idea there was a dirt oval class that allowed Wankels!

I actualy meant the chassis side brackets but you answered that question none the less, I assumed with a 10 bolt and a torque arm you used a 3rd/4th gen axle, ant that you would have modified the car to keep the geometry like a third gens.

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

It's a torque arm setup that i usually build for installing Ford 8.8 into the RX-7, but with the design modified slightly for the 10 bolt. Not enough room in the narrow RX-7 tunnel for a Camaro TA, so i build this style that goes around the driveshaft w/ a shackle style arrangement...

Here's a look at the parts I make for a 2nd gen RX-7 solid axle / 8.8 torque arm conversion...

Ah! I figured the car was too short for a stock F body arm but I had no idea you put so much work into it. Thats beautiful fabrication.

I have thought about a similar solution to putting a 12 bolt or similar rear into my TA if I ever need to but My plan pretty much apes the GNX suspension but with the rear cover in easy to work steel.

I could also mount the arm where I wanted it instead of where GM put it.

not that one, at least I don't think. rice I beleive is defined as an odd body kit that serves no extra aerodynamic performance, a large and very loud muffler that serves no extra engine performance, and a multitude of the little things you find in common parts stores such as the shift *****, the fake pedal covers, goofy lisence plate covers and fender vents that the car didn't originaly come with. now that being established, that miata can't be rice because it doesn't have an obnoxiously large wing, or an annoyingly odd body kit that doesnt match, neither does it have those little ''upgrade'' parts we find at WalMart

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

I beleive some people are taking this ''rice'' thing a little too far and including all imports, some imports are respectable, but there's many such as honda civics, that get used as little play toys for teenagers or even younger adults that they put large ''fart cannon'' mufflers and huge wings that don't serve an extra aerodynamic performance or three different body kits put together into one to make an ugly looking car. such as

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

Does this count as rice? It was my sleeper YZ250. 13:1 compression, forged, jetted carb. Came stock with a whole 52 horsepower, had over 60 at the wheel when it left my posession, it was one wild ride. 0-60 in well under 4 seconds, I was only limited to how fast I could shift, it'd wind out the gear as soon as I dropped the clutch.

Oh yeah, and it has stickers....

Do these little critters count as "rice"? They were both bought in New Jersey, before I moved to Delaware, but they're Italian. Technically an import!

I hope to buy myself another Jap bike in a few years, this time an actual street bike, probably a nice lil' 'Busa.

oh jeez. people are not understanding the concept of this. just because you have an import does not make it automatically rice. rice is defined as,
1. mis-matched body kit that is extremely useless to the aerodynamics of the car
2. a spoiler the size of a daytona charger's but much uglier and also serving no extra aerdynamic advantage to the car.
3. a large, extremely obnoxious exhaust tip that sounds like a fart or something of that sort, cleverly named ''fart cannons''
4. interior modifications, such as a woman's play toy for a shifter, colored ac vents, neon lights on the console
5. neon light kit underneath the bumpers or side-skirts
6. finally, last but not least very FEW engine modifications done

now I'm sure i'm forgetting some items but that's the jist of it. like that honda i posted on here, THAT is rice. this bike, is SICK. i don't think you should have sold it, it's nice

I was really just joking about it being rice. I mentioned this:

"0-60 in well under 4 seconds, I was only limited to how fast I could shift, it'd wind out the gear as soon as I dropped the clutch."

Which is completely true, and no r!cer could ever hope of doing that, even on a bike. Well... Unless someone riced out a GSXR.

I have a 1986 nissan 300zx that i love and i will never sale and i just parted out my 1991 twin turbo fully built 2+2 nissan 300zx that had some where in the range of mid 400's on low boost (10psi) and about mid 600's on high boost (20psi) but after one thing happened about a year ago it started to go down hill from there.

Yea, I guess alot of us started out there. I've owned a Nissan and a couple of JAP Bikes. My car was a 1990 240SX. My first bike a 1994 ZX-7 completely done, and my last bike a 2000 GSXR1000. BUT now I have a 1989 Iroc 5.7 with about 133KM on it.

Before I bought my 92 Z28 I had a 99 Eclipse GS. I wouldnt say it was RICE, but it did have a loud fart can and blacked out taillights ect...I wanted to stay in the DSM scene but I realized I could get a Z28 with like 250 stock HP...or a turbo Eclipse Gst with only like 210 stock. I dont think ill ever look back

I've never owned an import unless you count my 2005 GTO as an import. It is a rebadged Holden Monaro, but Holden is owned by General Motors and the car does have an LS2 and T-56 transmission in it.

IMO EVOs/STis are nowhere near rice, to me at least.
Rice is exactly what "candle" said. "Modding" the car to LOOK fast and its not even fast. STi s are some ****ing FAST cars hahah.

Ok, i have never owned a ric'r, but did want one. I was a big fan of Skylines and Evos, and at one time, a VW, only cause i saw a suped up version on Fast and the Furious. Also liked 350z. anyway I prefer an American. this car you see under my name over there<<< is my mom's car. yea, go ahead and make fun of it. i got my camaro for cristmas this year, except it doesn't run. so, i get to fix itall by myself, which i look forward to doing everyday, however its going a little slow b/c its too cold to do anything. we southern boys ain't used to this long of cold streaks. i am thinking about putting a blue neon underglow kit on my camaro when its finnished....you know for night racing purposes, people will see my underglow and hear my engine roar, and know its me. its not an import thing......full decked out body kits and 22+" rims are too far.

wait wait wait! few engine mods? it ranges, you see it varies, simple body kits and large spoilers to full decked out wide body kit, no OEM parts on the car whatsoever, a lot of engine mods and computer ECM chips, and advanced lvl OBD sensors and computer control modules, to where you can't put a refrigerator magnet in the car without frying the computer. anywhere between those lines is a rice'r. don't mean to put you down, its just thats how it is.

you see, American muscles don't need a lot of computers and gadgetry to outrun *****'s. all we need for lots of power is a high performance block, headers, high rise intake, 900 cfm carb, bigger cam, MSD ignition and a weiland supercharger, and you got what, around 600 hp? depending on the block, and type of setup? rice'rs need tons more to even come close or to match, if at all possible. i tink the neon could fit most cars, depending on what thy look like, might look natural....in some, not all.

Just one problem there. Skylines, VW's, and 350Z's are far from rice. There are guys making 600+ FT.-LBS. of Torque with the little VR6's in the older Volkswagen Jettas. There are also a few 1,000+ Horsepower Skylines and 350Z's around. Some are nearing the 2,000 BHP mark.

http://www.autoblog.com/2005/11/03/a...make-you-barf/

1,750 Horsepower Twin Turbo 350Z, although it is not street legal, it runs a 6.9.

Basically what I consider rice, are 4 cylinder FWD Hondas. You cannot do much at all with them. Even if you're producing 500 BHP at peak power, it will still most likely make a measily 200 FT.-LBS. of Torque, AFTER you wait for VTAK to kick in.

Waiting for a FWD 4 banger's turbos to spool is like waiting for bad sex. You wait and wait and wait, expecting this violent force, slamming you back in your seat, from 500 or so BHP, and you get ripped off! The almighty force of 200 FT.-LBS. of Torque hardly would excite a kid!

I'm not against imports, as many people are, but in the end, you just have to accept the fact that the fastest street legal car is American.

Rod Saboury's 2,000+ Horsepower street legal '63 'Vette is a thing of beauty. The turbos are larger than the average person's head. I hope to go over to Maryland one day and meet Rod, and check out the Vette. Since I'm right over in Delaware, about 100 miles from him, and the fastest street legal car in the world.

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

Wait wait wait, another post.

Hey guys, I'm thinking about buying a 99-04 'Stang, instead of dumping all my money into the IROC right away. Would my little 4.6 be considered rice?

Yep, I pretend to dislike Fords, but deep down, I'm a Ford guy too. I just don't dig their trucks looks at all. A Silverado or Ram 2500 are the best looking, and performing trucks out there IMHO. Especially a 5.9 Cummins, my friend let me use his to have fun smashing the snow in my driveway a couple weeks ago.

I'm still a lil' whacky from all the Diesel exhaust.

you see, American muscles don't need a lot of computers and gadgetry to outrun *****'s. all we need for lots of power is a high performance block, headers, high rise intake, 900 cfm carb, bigger cam, MSD ignition and a weiland supercharger, and you got what, around 600 hp? depending on the block, and type of setup? rice'rs need tons more to even come close or to match, if at all possible. i tink the neon could fit most cars, depending on what thy look like, might look natural....in some, not all.
mm, third gen's are computer controled, haha. I still don't own a third gen. =( I wish I did though, and when I do get one, everything that has to do with computers is getting yanked out, my dad's car and my ''daily driver''(that has a clutch problem so I don't drive it right now because I've been working too much, not a daily driver right now) are both computer controled. although, I do love the sound of an ol carburetor jettin the engine to go faster, it's like sex to my ears

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

Umm my friend was showing me some stuff he wanted for his Rsx and a header was like 600 or 700$ and some tuning ecu thing was 900$ and the intakes aren't cheap either.
I'm sure you can get a glasspack for 50$ though.

Ps Oh and huge props to the 4 rotor.

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

I dont know if I was ever a "*****", but I had a 98' Honda accord back in 2001. It had the V-6 and occasionally people would try racing me. It beat 4 out of 5 ricers, which is kinda funny because that car was stock down to the paper filter. Overall, the car was awful though. Bought it with 84k miles and sold it at 100k because I couldnt handle the thing falling apart on me anymore. It had 9 problems(from minor trim breaks to engine no start conditions) in that short 3 year period I owned it. I never looked back after that heh. It was fun to drive though, for a 4 door sedan.

I had an 2003 Tiburon. Was really fun to drive in traffic. Small and fun. Would beat cars and trucks with Hemi's all day.

When comparing what you can get out of a Japanese car to an American car...as far as fit and finish looks and power, and yes I said POWER no competition there, yeah this days you have chargers, 300 hemi's and such but all plastic square looking cars and some over priced caddy's until a couple of years back what really good looking cars Domestics have? now there a couple of good looking choices out there, and just making reference to those of us that dont have the luxury of having a 2 door car as primary method of transport this just my My Maximas and Altimas have and had the power to play the need to please and the looks to get notice, with out braking the bank or driving rattle boxes

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

i admit i have gone over to the dark side, but its no rice rocket, no fart can or huge wing or stickers! my car list goes 88 V6 Camaro, 86 IROC, and 2000 V6 Camaro. i bought a 2004 Nissan 350Z, it was hard for me to leave my beloved Camaro's! but the 350Z is a nice car, it handles like its on rails, and has nearly 300hp. i dont think its as sexy as my black t-top IROC and i still miss the sound of my Flowmaster exhaust
After i finish school i do plan to find a original IROC and built one back up, still the most fun ive ever had in a car!

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

first car: 89 mr2 supercharger. got a ticket for 89 in a 55 8 hours after registering it. still sittin in the barn back home after i cooked it 5 years ago. sucker for early datsun z's i think the styling on them is amazing. not to mention a chevy fits. although what cant u fit a chevy in? frames are very weak, although so are camaros. classic peds, dont really count but my gutted biturbo exhaust resembles a can. im gonna start a new thread, plz join and get ur cams ready on the road.

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

My list so far is:
96 Lincoln Continental-dead
1999 Toyota Camry LE-dead
1986 Mustang GT-dead
1992 Camaro Z28 Heritage-stolen
2002 Accord-crashed
1995 Civic-still own
1984 Camaro Berlinetta-was driving, now restoring!
My amarican cars were pretty rough to say the least till I got my latest camaro, the Toyota died cause I destroyed it going through offroading trails, but do you blame me, I was 16... Loved mustangs and thats why I bought one, died a month later, didn't have the money or tools to fix a blown tranny, so sold whatever I could off of it. Oh, yes the lincoln, that was a money pit, 6 alternators!!! Just gave that to my older brother. The 92' camaro, that was beatiful, just needed new door hinges, and that is what I mean by that is all it needed. 67K, nothing wrong with it, looked like it rolled out of the factory. Guy had the title in his hand and I paid $2500 cash my parents loaned to me. Got to DMV, it was a stolen car.... yeah, I got screwed. So a month later, Dec 30 2007 bought my 02' Accord, and lasted that till March 9th of 09' and got into a head-on collision with a tractor trailer, so to say the least, I'm happy to be alive and glad the car is dead and I'm not with it. And 3 weeks later after that, got my civic, and love it. And in August, a birthday present to myself I bought my Camaro for the love of my lost one!

Re: How many current or ex-ricers on here? dont lie!

just saw this post- if you boys think its bad over there you should see what its like on this side of the pond.
And as there is one proper car ( read v8 ) for every 100,000 euro/jap ones we get even more stick. I cant drive to work without some muppet trying to drag me at the lights in a 1.4 nova...
