LS1 vs K20

Hey guys,

A friend of mine came down to the house taking people for rides in his civic that has a sohc d-series that was completely rebuilt, forged everything, running 14 lbs of boost. Its a sick car no doubt but he says he still beats LS1's all the time from a roll or stop. I know my carbed 305 doesn't stand a chance right now but I'm gonna get an LS1 camaro this summer and I was wanting to know what its gonna take to beat em.

Re: LS1 vs K20

I can see it happening. I have a buddy that just rolled his SRT-4 that had a stage 1 turbo kit on it and he was pushin 15lbs of boost. Well him and my other friend who has a mustang gt with short throw, long tubes, x pipe, throttle body, intake, and programer were always racing and the srt and him would be neck and neck everytime from a roll and from stop but he never spooled the turbo up first. The mustang has beatin a stock LS1 camaro multiple times. If that SRT-4 is neck and neck with a mustang that can beat an LS1 Camaro then Im sure a hopped up honda would do the same.

It's a mid to late 90's body style. I talked to a buddy about it today and he was saying that if i put a lid, long tubes and off road y pipe, and got a 2000+ Z28 that it would have the Ls6 intake that would probably take it.

Re: LS1 vs K20

Keep in mind that a ls1 swap in a thirdgen is faster than a ls1 fourthgen due to less weight. Also assuming if your going to do this swap you might aswell do a few minor boltons aswell which will only lessen the chances of that honda beating you on the topend where he will be making all his power. If you get a ls1 from the 00+ fourthgen and throw in a cam, headers, exhuast and get it a aggressive tune would make for one nasty 3rdgen..especially with a t-56 and good tire to hook with.

How good of a driver is the Honda owner and are you sure its a k20 or b or d series motor or h22.Ive got friends with very fast crappy looking all motor k20 motors I wouldnt run against anytime soon in early hatch civics with lsd 6spd that sound almost damn stock so find out exactly what hes got.If hes boosting the stock motor with lil work done to the internals..it wont last him long.Run him from a dig aswell and maybe he might catch you.

I don't think he is doing a swap... I think he is buying a 4th gen... only god knows why he would do that though...

Re: LS1 vs K20

Don't get me wrong guys, I would love a third gen LS car but it costs more to do the swap than to just buy the car and I need the car soon and I'm a full time college student. Don't have the time to get into all that plus my camaro needs more work than the 9k i can put into a new car and everything should work. The LS third gen swap will come later cause I'm not letting my baby go haha.

Anyway, it is a sohc D-series and everything was done right, that motor was built from the ground up so it'll hold up great. He did an intake this weekend and said he's putting 300+ to the rear wheels and 14 lbs of boost. I think if i do a couple legit mods like full exhaust, headers, lid and maybe a couple other things with an LS6 intake that i would be running mid 12's. He is a decent driver cause he's owned six different cars in five years and riced the **** out of all of them haha. He said he'd probably run around 13's

Re: LS1 vs K20

if you get a 4thgen ls1/6spd then there are lots you can do to edge out a win.full exhust, lid and decent cam, decent sticky tire and damn good tune should be enough to hold him down..hopefully this is a 1/4 mile run and just a rolling start on a highway. and practice shiftin that thing from a dig..the more time u spend learning every part of how well that car can perform will shave time down.

if not then a nice lil baby bottle hidden in the car will always come in handy just incase he creeps up on ya lol

this all in all could be a drivers race so keep us posted

300+ to the rear wheels, huh? What the heck kinda honda is this, a frankenstien car? HAHA sorry I had to do it.

But as far as the race goes, hondas are LIGHT and when built right, they are FAST. But, they don't hook until half way through 3rd gear unless they have awesome tires which is there downfall. I think with some minor boltons like a lid, headers and exhaust, you should have a fighting chance. Good luck!
