what can i expect?
hey all i dont really post much on here but i do plenty of searching and reading.
anywho im building a 350 currently to swap into my 83 firebird with a 305 and a 700r-4 tranny.
the build is as follows
350 casting number 3970010 2 bolt main with "010" added nickel content
stock bottom end
GM 441 heads with 76CC and 1.9/1.54
edelbrock performer intake manifold
holley 750 cfm carb.
the motor stock was about 250horses with those heads and im not positive the cam that came with the motor is the stock cam. anyway with the build i listed does anyone know about what kind of power to expect? about what ill be running in the quarter? its a base model firebird about 3000 lbs or less if anyone is factoring that.
i was going to put in bigger cam as well but am afraid about the 700r4 and rear holding up as the car is my daily and i dont have the money on reserve to get a new tranny.
thanks in advance

Ok ive built tons of small block chevys, for one 750 is way too much carb for a stock 350 which is basically what your running, if you got dish pistons in this thing with 76cc heads its a 8 to 1 motor, stock you may have about 200hp,maybe with a cam and a aluminum intake and no more than a stock 600 4bbl you may reach 250hp
Another problem your going to run into is weight, 3600 lbs is going to hold you up, another factor is most 3rd gens have a 2.73 rear end which is total crap but better than what my 79 firbird had (2.41)
best thing you could do is at least put some 4 valve flat tops in it to give you at least 10 to 1
with the setup you have there if you put what you got together you could expect a 15.50 maybe a 15.20 in the 1/4

Re: what can i expect?
I would assume that with just an intake manifold and carb change, you might get to 275 HP at the flywheel. If you want any real power out of the engine, the cam has to be changed. Even with stock heads, the cam means EVERYTHING on a motor. With the cam you change the powerband of the motor to your liking, the max RPM, and the horsepower. Get something around a .460 lift for a daily driver. You'll still make awesome vacuum and that 700R4 should hold fine with a mildly cammed 350.
With your stated set up I can't see doing better than a hgih 14. If you were to throw in a decent cam and had the thing tuned well low 14's are definately possible.
And by the way, hooker longtubes and a dual exhaust won't give ya any real power without a cam to increase the exhaust flow requirements of the motor.

Re: what can i expect?
a break down...haha just kidding...You could throw in a mild cam that would give ya some power but i would use your 305 heads (smaller combustion chamber to boost compression) and smooth up the valve bowls and gasket match the head to your intake.
Is this a carb motor? If it is what carb? Upgrade the intake to a edelbrock air gap or weiand stealth. Both good intakes for the money...i went with the weiand because it works just as well and a little cheaper.
The 700r4 should hold fine with 300hp/300ft. lbs. of torque.
with what you listed I would bet your car as it stands is a low 15 maybe high 14.
Rear gearing would help.
