First/Most Memorable Loss?

Post the loss you remember more distinctly than all the others...haha. If you've never lost and therefore don't have a first or most memorable loss, you have my respect.

My first and most memorable was to a '05 Mustang in my '86 with the 305 TPI. I don't even think it was a GT. But we were at a stoplight waiting to go under an overpass and turn left on the other side. So effectively from about a 30 roll. He was easily 5 lengths ahead of me and gaining while I had it on the floor.

I'm almost done with a 350 carb swap. haha.

Re: First/Most Memorable Loss?

I was sitting in a light in my 87 IROC 350 stock when I see this probably 07 mustang pull up next to me. I start thinking to myself oh man this will be an easy kill! Then I take a glance at the GT badge on the side of his car. Oh s**t. Then I think why the heck not. We both gun it. He is running a stick shift and we were head to head all the way up through his 1 and 2 gear. Then he puts it into third and he rockets down the street leaving me in the dust. I was still happy cuz I was able to stay with him for a while. Plus my car had been running in limp mode (I think that oil change on Wednesday helped.

Re: First/Most Memorable Loss?

It was back when I first got my car. My uncle had asked me to drive him to the base, so that he could go get his car, an "04 Altima. As we were driving back home, we got side to side, and he honked at me. Then we took off. I got stomped needless to say. He was ahead of me from the beginning.

I was still under the impression that my car was fast, and he stripped me of that quickly lol. I guarantee it wont happen again though, and he knows it

Re: First/Most Memorable Loss?

My most memorable was when I first got my 87 GTA L98 on the road and I had my girlfriend (now wife) with me and a buddy. I was rolling down a 4 lane road in Akron at about 11 at night and a 94-96 Impala SS came flying up on me. Needless to say I hammered it and so did he and he went by me like I was in neutral! I knew I was screwed as soon as he got next to me and I heard the supercharger whining.

Re: First/Most Memorable Loss?

This was a fun one for me. I think this night we both ran 12's for the first time. Me and my full bolt on L98 got to 12.95 at 103.8 that night. My buddy's LT1 with exhaust/3.73's stock automatic/etc ran 12.96 at 106.

We were in line to race each other at the track. Last pair to run I think, and a car in front of us broke and oiled down the track. They decided to close track and that was it...

so we took it to the streets. On the way back I think we had 4 runs from various mph rolls and he took me out everytime. Was fun.

First loss in my turbo car was at the track tho. raced a 9 second flat drag car. Got me pretty good

Re: First/Most Memorable Loss?

Back in 85 or so, coming home from the Dairy Queen in Odenton, MD. Was at a light with my 84 Z28 and a 67 Big Block Chevelle was next to me. He asked if I wanted to run and said sure, all the well knowing that this was going to be a slaughter. Light turned green and I jumped on it, he waited a second or so and then had about 10 cars on me by about 70mph. We had talked earlier while at DQ and he wasn't kidding about that car.

The Z28 ran low-mid 14's at that time. Was lots of fun running back then and hanging out every Saturday at DQ. Always nice cars turned out, really miss that...

Re: First/Most Memorable Loss?

Well it was in my charger. I got raced a early 70's camaro. He blew me away said it was a stock bottom end 350 with cam. I knew it was something more. So thats why I didnt race for moeny like he wanted. If he was trying to hustle he was soo bad. Blew my doors off. It ws a 440 68 charger too I was in. In my camaro I got tired of losing to 5.0 mustangs...not anymore

Re: First/Most Memorable Loss?

Got treed by a Duramax.
I was thinking about how I'd never raced against a diesel pickup and before I knew it, he was gone. Could barely see with all the diesel smoke.
His reaction time, (or the lack of mine) was the difference at the stripe. I was reeling him in at the end but he won by less than a tenth.

Re: First/Most Memorable Loss?

Friend set up a race between me and another guy and he had an 89 Capri. My car was still pretty stock at the time and I got waxed. Well, that's what started the madness of wanting to go faster. The following week I already had a different rear end and was starting to look into building a 350. Never did race the other guy again cause the car was sold. Haven't lost on the street since then though but that's not saying much, only had 3 three of them. Lucky enough to have a track 90 miles away to do my racing.

Re: First/Most Memorable Loss?

I have only had my camaro a little over a year its far from stock and far from a monster lol but my first and only loss so far was to a 69' Dart swinger orange with flack black hood and black accents. He had polished weld racing stars with some meaty tires. It sounded like a BB with decent cam. Pulled up to a stop light on my way home from work around 5pm. My car is pretty loud so I didn't hear him next to me. When I took off from the light I noticed he was next to me and I sped up a little to take a look at his car. At this point he punched it I tryed to keep up when I layed it down I made it to his back bumper. He then just started pull way ahead. I came up next to him at the next light he waved at me with his 8-10yr old son in the car that was laughing like he just had the time of his life. I smiled waved back and drove back home.

Re: First/Most Memorable Loss?

Lost to a bunch of guys, not ashamed of it, but a couple of my most memorable ones

1. Lost to a buddy's 04 WRX when he finally learned how to drive it...I'm getting a 99 Z28 here in a couple of days and I'm gonna put him back in his place

2. Lost to a Ferrari 360 which was awesome just to hear that thing at WOT.

3. Most suprising was an ~07 Cobalt SS I think it was a stage 2 or 3 cause that turbo spooled and he just walked all over me.

There are plenty more but that 360 was a real treat to see and hear.

Re: First/Most Memorable Loss?

my 305 tbi vs a VW i know it doesnt seem like much of a race but it was basically a 50 mph rolling start my foot never let go of the pedal. after two exits he was ahead turned to the left lane i went right he got stuck behind truck and a car and i sped past to the destined finish line. i know it wasn't really a loss but it was the first time i felt slow in my car and my ego was a bit bruised. but i have a 350 now so who knows

Please tell me you have the year wrong. Even the turbo Capri in those years were dogs. We didn't get them until later as well.

Mine was in my SHO. I was playing around with a Cooper S. He stomped me. Came to find out later that he has a lot of money in that motor. I've never heard the supercharger whine on one until I was beside that one.

Re: First/Most Memorable Loss?

my most memorable loss was pretty bad, i was driving home one night and out here its rural highway so not a lot of cars at 1 AM, up comes an Audi out of nowhere, my old 305 vs. his Audi TT, so as he was going to pass i throttled it and got a slight lead but he closed it pretty quick was slowly putting car lengths ahead of me, soon as i hit the hill my engine blew and i was barely able to coast home =(, but now my car has a new 350 in it.

So another loss of mine, not really a huge loss, my friends Saab 9-3 2.8? Turbo, soon as i got the engine swap me and him went out one night on a rural road, off we went, burnt rubber and all, first race i won, i hit the finish (gravel road turn off) 6 seconds ahead of him second race i let him start ahead of me, he got probably 1 second ahead of me because i didnt know i broke an engine mount so i throttled it easy, 3rd race, throttled it, the hood lifted and i took off leaving him in the dust, ending up breaking my transmission mount because of the broken engine mount so that one loss wasnt really huge, only reason this is memorable was because it was fun

Re: First/Most Memorable Loss?

My first loss ever was a pretty embarrassing one. I had just gotten my 86 TA auto with a 305 TPI. It was all stock and I had just done new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc in shop class in high school. My shop teacher loved me and my car so when one of the punks in the class said his 96 ford probe GT would smoke me, my teacher sided with me and said my car would kill his. We went to a local street after school thats known as "race road" because nobody is ever on it, and it's about a half mile of perfectly straight road. A freind of ours got out and counted 1, 2, 3 and we were off. Being the amatuer I was, I slammed the gas pedal to the floor and that tuned port torque let it's fury out and burned the tires all through 1st gear. By that time the probe had about a car and a half on me and when I finally hooked, I was reeling him in slowly and was at his rear bumper when we got to the end of the road. I was so bummed, and I heard it from all the kids in my shop class the next day. It was one of those races I shouldn't have lost, but because of my driving skill at the time I did lose!!

After that I built the 305 with a cam, ported TPI, and headers/ other bolt ons, and surprised a lot of people that weren't expecting a 305 to move like that!
