Re: who would win....?
My buddy had a 4.6 cougar. Fairly quick but nothing special. They are governed to 108mph i believe. His was. I think the 305 has a chance tho

Re: who would win....?
Thats a 2 valve 4.6 right?
If so, You won if the Thirdgen is in good running order, and good tune.
I have a 94 MarkVIII with the 4valve aluminum mod motor. Its kinda fast. But the old fords get really tired. I think u can take him.

Re: who would win....?
My wife has a V6 2001 Cougar and it has pep to take off if you give it the gas but with that front wheel drive in the way, those things are dirt slow. Even the V8, it's not like they used to be. You will probably win with the TPI torque helping out but be safe my friend and don't do it with traffic around.

Re: who would win....?
2) They never made a 2001 Cougar V8
The Cougar will win stock for stock.
Re: who would win....?
Yes, I think a heavy butt Impala SS is slow. That's my opinion. Front wheel drive is best for wet roads and snow but for racing I prefer rear wheel drive V8's. I think this guy's TPI will beat the old Cougar V8. Cougar's are really not fast, even with a V8. It's quick, not fast.

You wouldn't believe how many deer I've hit in everything but my 3rd gens. Usually in my big truck & plow truck I hit them on purpose, but I've even had a few run into me and ruin doors/fenders.

Re: who would win....?
Based on my experience, the 305 will win, but not by much. My 85, 305 TPI, A4, stock, I raced a similar T-Bird, and put a length on it by the end of first, then I stopped pulling. She didn't gain any ground on me after that either. If it were the XR7 (SC version, not that they were made that year, but), it could be bad for the lil 305 from a dig.

Re: who would win....?
The convertibles are a bit heavier unfortunately... what does your car weigh? around 3,400 lbs? Do you still have your RPO sticker in the center console? I'd be interested in seeing what options you have before making an opinion on the race outcome... What gears do you have? If you have atleast the GU5 code (3.23 gears) I'd say you might pull out the win.

Re: who would win....?
I actually raced an XR7 Cougar back when my car was bone stock. It gave me a run for my money but I did manage to beat him by a small margin. It was a roll race from about 30 mph.
