lets settle this once and for all.....

My brother has an 86 Fiero GT. He modded it with a 3800 SC from a 97 Grand Prix GTP. It has a factory 4 speed manual. He thinks its the fastest thing in the world. I've ridden in it, and driven it (his shifter isn't worth **** I get lost in it) I say its fast, but it has nothing on some cars I've ridden in. Including a 374 horse SLP modded 2002 CETA. HP numbers are at the flywheel.

Now...somehow hes convinced that he'll outrun me when I'm done with mine......

So. Heres the argument.

2800lb 1986 Fiero GT with a 4 speed manual and a 250 horse 3800 SC.

VS

3200lb 1984 Trans Am with a 97 T56, 3.73 gears and an approx 500 horse 383 stroker.

TA will have a built suspension, and Fiero's is stock. I know stock for stock with full original setups being the 2.8 V6 for him and the L69 and T5 for me I have him by a full second to 60.

I have to say based on what I saw with that CETA and a friend's 82 TA with a 406. I have him crushed, buried and gone. IF I don't send the rears up in smoke. Even on a road course hes done before it even started.

Re: lets settle this once and for all.....

A L67 in a fiero is probably a quick little car. I have a 97' Regal GS that is 100% stock down to the paper filter and I just ran a 14.54 at 94.44mph in average DA. Good air, and some DRs and it'd be a easy low 14sec car.

Now take that same motor, stuff it into a car thats about 1000lbs lighter, that's equipped with a manual trans, and given the right condtions (weather, track prep, driver ability) it could squeeze out a high 12. More than likely mid - low 13s on average though.

Regardless, a 500hp LT1 stroker will eat that setup alive all day. Unless he starts to mod the L67...

Re: lets settle this once and for all.....

The LS1 CETA I rode in ran 13.4s all night long with some wheelspin. The 406 82 TA ran a 13.2 best with wheelspin for at least 60 feet. The 82 I believe had 477 HP at the flywheel, and has an automatic. The CETA had 374 at the flywheel and a T56.

Based on those I figured I'd be low 13s with a 383 if not 12s or faster. The Stroker is gonna be a carb SBC. I meant the T56 is from an LT1. Oh yea, and those times were in Kansas.

I'm not saying the Fiero isn't a quick lil car, I'm just saying he might be severely disappointed. lol. It was a hack job too. And I don't think the L67 is in the best of health....smoking oil. Moron however claims its ok.

Re: lets settle this once and for all.....

Unless you're living at a severe altitude, a near 500hp thirdgen should do low 11s, not low 13s.

My free mod only 93' LT1 Corvette 6speed (300hp) ran a 13.3 at 107mph. This was in good air with a 2.0 60ft.

I also had a hotcam/tune/free modded LT4 vette that dynoed 344rwhp (just a tad over 400 at the flywheel). That car ran 12.2 at 116mph in average air with a 1.9 60ft.

So based on what my cars ran, a T56 equipped thirdgen (that weighs roughly the same as a C4) with 100hp more than my old LT4, should NOT run 13s or 12s. 11s should be cake.

Re: lets settle this once and for all.....

well, the 82 had run a best of 12.76 that I know of somewhere near chicago. He was running street tires and spun them like mad the night that we were all at the track. I'm baselining my car on those two cars. I guess I'm expecting to spin the rears, and I have a better rear gear for the strip than they did. I think both are running 3.42s. We'll see what happens when I get mine done.

A good friend of mine said..."Dude...you're gonna have a one and done black flag pass at the strip for lack of safety equipment. So spin the rears and run low 13s, then on your last run of the night nail it and run an 11."

Anyway, point is, Fiero aint got a thing on my finished car. All thats left is to finish building the car and prove it.

im with tpivette.. my 290hp (est) stock L98 runs mid 13's all day and 11.9-12.2 with a 150 shot of n2o. I have seen the fieros with the sc 3800 swap and the best i remember is low 13's. mostly low 14's.

L67 equipped Fieros run low to mid 13's. BTW, what kind of mpg's are you getting with your engine lol jk.

Just build the t/a and race him. It's pointless to be hypothetical about it, especially when it's your brother. Right now he's got you beat with a running car...

My money is on that this will never happen, just like most races that'll "happen next week" in here.

Re: lets settle this once and for all.....

It's all about traction and power to weight. Even a 400hp thirdgen should run low 12's if everything is right. 500hp is easy mid 11's at 120+

A 2800lb car (like the Fiero) with 250hp and traction should probably run in the low 13's at 106 or something.

Touche. I'm working on it, slowly getting there. Damn the world for requiring money to make it go round.

And guys it is hypothetical. Due to the Fiero also being down for the count...(the moron just hacked the engine in there, details be damned) with massive coolant leaks, this race is not happening anytime soon. I'm working on getting a rolling chassis done first before I build the motor because that way I can at least move the car around if need be.

Also StealthIroc....lets see....500 HP, 3.73s, .5 6th....I'll be lucky to see 25. Naturally, with a car like that being built...who cares about gas its all about having fun.

Re: lets settle this once and for all.....

LOL it was sarcasim, typical small engine comeback. Another good one, mine make more power per cubic inch. As a Fiero owner I can honestly say your car can take his in any kind of race. They handle ok, not as good as any 3rd gen though and the brakes are a joke, might as well try to air brake it.

If you lose sell your car...no seriously.

There's no reason you should lose unless you're a worse driver than a blind 90 year old woman with Alzheimer's It's time to knock your brother down a few pegs.

Re: lets settle this once and for all.....

I'm fairly familiar with the L67. You will dust him.
1. You have a better performing car
2. You have considerably more power (supposedly 2x the power)
3. If he used the Grand Prix ECM/TCM (and didn't tune it), its governed to either 105 or 108...
4. Without some serious port work in the intake and/or meth injection, the power increases seen by modding them are never very impressive IMO.

BTW, race him on a hot night.
