Slowpoke

No, not the pokemon.

I'm usually out in town with my girl every other day. Her dad owns the local shop she works at, and usually we take my car and leave hers there and pick it up on the way home. We joke around and have our windows down and race each other light to light, since highway 27 here is a straight highway through town with a million stop lights. Then we turn on to another highway, and it's a perfectly straight stretch of freshly paved road and a 1 mile stretch before the turn to our house, and we race the whole way. In a few weeks, i'm doing a 3.4 swap out of a white 90 something camaro. Can't even chirp or squeal anything even at WOT from a stop, so i'm hoping it will be an improvement. Haha. She walks me like nothing everytime, and I figured I would see what it would take to at least stay with her. Lol

Her car:

2008 Saturn Aura XR
3.6L "LY7" 252 hp (188 kW) @ 6300 rpm; 251 lb·ft (340 N·m) @ 3200 rpm
Completely stock car.

Mine of course:

84 Firebird
Completely stock Carbed 2.8L V6
With freshly flushed newer-used 700R4 replacement.
No weight reduced except for the spare tire and jack.
215/65/15's on front and the back Im stuck with used 215/70/15's because the cheap used tire place didn't have any matches.

Is there any way I could get this 3.4 to hold up with her? What mods, etc. will I be looking at? I'm not really looking for a V8 right now, as gas is killing me on money at the moment.

PS: Yeah, I know, V6..

Re: Slowpoke

With the 3.4 I think she will still wreck you. You will probably have to rebuild it get some heads from a newer v6 cam ect and do it up. Then I think you could keep up.

Re: Slowpoke

Didn't even see that second one. Thanks. Also, I was told they were going to swap my intake with carb and bolt it onto the 3.4. Would this be any performance loss with my current intake? I might as well do headers, etc. while it's out.

If I were going to keep the intake and carb I would at least get one of these

Also probably swap the cam but I am not sure what carb would be best. I dont think you will make the 160 hp that the 3.4 puts out stock with a carb and 2.8 manifold.

I had that on my 84, along w/ their cam kit & 373 gears, really woke up the car. Doing that swap gets rid of alot of emissions crap.
I think a holley 4bbl with the edelbrock manifold and a mild cam will really wake up the engine.

Haha, wow, you're just on the ball here. Thanks so much. If I just did the intake and carb, with headers, and decent cat-back exhaust, what performance standpoint would I be looking at compared to a stock FI 3.4 without getting heads or a cam? Around the same, or a noticeable improvement in HP?

Not really sure I dont know how well the v6 responds to mods. But I would probably not worry about the heads and get a cam even a mild one.

I bet with a decent holley carb and edelbrock manifold cam exhaust and cam you can get 180 to 200

I would ask around the V6 section
