hey guys my brother just got a 04 turbo str4 and i was wondering who would win in a quarter mile race


my car

88 trans am gta

3640 pounds with me (180 pounds)
355 block
First injection tpi
gm hotcam
l98 heads
built 700r4 2200 stall
3.42 gears
full suspension

brothers car

04 dodge neon srt4
3000 pounds with him (200)
2.4 turbocharged I4

You should have hime off the line unless he knows how to spool his car up before he gets moving but even then those cars are better when they move out of the low RPM range and into the range of more air flow. So I think that you would have him off the line and then be able to keep the lead. But, who has the driver mod? lol

If you only had a set of ported heads, or aftermarket heads you'd destroy him. But with stock heads I'm going to say your car is faster, but you could still lose the race. I think you got this unless you screw the launch.

Being FWD and a turbo he's going to have a hell of a time getting it out of the hole without spinning or bogging. If this is a true 1/4 mile race I you'd get him. I ran up against a built Neon SRT-4 several times the last time I was at Byron dragway. I destroyed him every time despite me trapping 103mph and he was trapping between 118 to 123mph. He just couldn't get it out of the hole and half the time I'd either already be at the 330ft mark, or the 1/8th mile by the time he got going. But man, once he got going he was gaining FAST. That was a case where the driver one the race, because I could launch harder and more consistently. But his car was definitely more powerful and faster. I was doing 13.5 avg @ 101-103mph. He was doing 13.8's @ 115+.

Deff. gonna come down to the driver as is. Ported heads or aftermarkets and you should pul l him. As said hes gonna have a hard time outa the hole being FWD.

How hope he doesnt put in a MBC(manual boost controller) and give it a few more PSI.
Turbo cars are fun. I have a '90 AWD talon with mods too. running 20psi. It has put a few V8's to shame. nothing like launching above 3000 with an awd car. Then once Its above 3k rpm it pulls haras boost comes on.

Race him win or not It will be fun. Then you will know where you stand and what to do to your car next. Keep us posted.

he knows how to launch the car... he had put a turbo on a stock 95 integra with a b16c engine... it went 13.09 at rockingham dragway that was only with 5psi on a totally stock car..... he also has a turbo mr2... so if i get aftermarket heads i should win without a doubt.. also i want to up the stall to a 2600 from vigilante

Id look for some AFR195 or Canfield 195s. A nice tight 3000 stall and maybe a little hotter cam then the Hot cam you have.

Start saving up because that thing will fly with a good driver and a little bit of money. Having driven and built both I can say the Srt is a good platform and so is the thridgen. You will get him out the hole as other have said but the topend of the Srt is crazy good stock. The full exhuast will help him alot and once he gets more basic mods(bigger intercooler/tune/dr) that thing will move should lay down 300hp. If you get some good heads you will for sure have him for now and if you get a new cam to match the flow of the heads it will give you even more breathing room. Don't take him lightly though because he seems to being knowledgeable of turbo cars. He will be able to hit 400-500whp and 11s with out even tearing into that motor.

experience here! i have a 88 L98 350, few mods. raced a buddy's same car, 04 srt4 neon turbo in the 1/8th i spun through 1st and 2nd, well he couldnt catch me, won by a car and a half length, could have been better with traction!

Just out of curiosity what is done to both cars. Also can your friend get it too hook. In a car like and srt or any fwd car for that matter it takes someone who knows how to get it to hook to get the most out of them. That's why most guys stick to the highway with their srt because they can't get it to hook. Like i said i have owned both cars and both are great platforms depending on your needs. Both cars will make good power on little money. The difference is the thirdgen is alot easier to launch, cheaper to come by. The Srt is lighter, is a four door and wil get considerably better gas mileage. The both can be setup for cornering although I give the edge to the srt. As a straight drag car the thrid gen wins hands down which is why I will by building another one for drag racing after i graduate. For dd status I personally like the srt but it's all what you need. Like I said the op and his brother should have a good race and depending on what they both do down the line mod wise it should stay that way.
