What in the heck are all of these automatic 305 TBI guys talking smack about. They have like 160 HP and run around high 16's, and some are prolly in the 17's. You guys are making my 305 TPI 5 speed feel like a god! Are these 305 TBI's faster than I'm thinking?

I think that most people who own 305 TBI's either get them because they don't realize there are other choices, they are cheap for a V8, or just plain like the reliability and fuel efficiency of them.
I however, have beaten 2 305 TPI's, and my car is fairly stock. I have headers, 2.5 inch exhaust to a flowmaster muffler, performance chip, no emmisions equipment and SFC's for handling purposes. The cars I beat were a 91 Trans Am and an 89 Iroc. The Iroc was a very close race, and my 3.08 gears probably helped me out big time in the higher speeds. I also have a 5 speed.
Do you just like to pull people's chains and **** them off or what? This post is highly troll-like and will probably make some people mad. I myself understand that my car isn't the fastest one out on the street, and I understand my limitations, but I'm sure there are a couple of 305 TBI's that could hand you your A$$, so you better be careful.

i think my TBI 305 5 spd is pretty fast, i have taken out some pretty respectable cars with it, Shes bone stock with a 3.73 posi rear end in it. when i say fast i dont mean ram air fast jsut quick, in other words "get up n go"

I wasnt trying to sound like an @$$ or anything..... but I was reading through the street racing section, and I saw a BUNCH of pretty much stock 305 TBI autos claiming to be beating mustang gt's, new Z28's, etc. That is rediculous. It reminds me of when my friend was trying to seriously convince me that his 89 4.3 vortech ASTRO van "smoked" a 94/95 mustang GT. I know the 5 spds are quicker, thats why I specifically said autos. I have the 5 speed TPI drivetrain. And have raced 2 auto L98 F bodies at school from stop lights and beat them pretty good. It was pretty even off the line. But, I am pretty good at driving the manual. Now, if they said they beat a civic i would be fine, but they didnt. They were claiming on beating the Fox Body 5.0's. My two friends have them with 5 speeds, with a bunch of mods, and they make me look like their..... well, bitch. Theres only one car summit and jegs have a whole section of performance parts for..... do you know what car it is. But i would NEVER trade my Iroc for a mustang, on the sole purpose of the way they look. I love the meaness of the thirdgen. Plus, i want to put in a vette L98. Should FLY with the 5 speed.

dude there is only 25 hp difference between a TPI 5 spd and a TBI 5 spd, while that is a good advantage over the other its not impossible to cmoe up with that differnece through simple mods. I have taken several TPI cars with my TBI 5 spd also
You have 170 HP, the 88 iroc 5 speed TPI has 220. 220 - 170 = 50. The 305 auto TPI's had 205 HP, however GM put the L98 cam in the 5spd 305 TPI. If you dont believe me, go check the tech info, at the left side of thirdgen.org. 50 HP is a little harder to come up with. Plus, I never said my engine was good by all means, I talked about the 350 L98, becuase thats what I need to become a challenge for most muscle cars.

MY 91 RS HAS BETTIN SOME 305TPI AND CHALAENGED SOME 350 TPI CARS . IF A 305 TBI CAR IS BUILT WITH THE RIGHT MODS THE CAN ESIALLY GET INTO THE MID 14'S . IF I GET SOME HEAD WORK DONE AND A GOOD CAM ID PROB BE CLOSE TO 14 FLAT WITCH WOULD DEFINITLY BEAT STOCK IROCS. i honestly dont think this kid has a clue and he probably just posted this to **** people off. ok ill give u the fact of the TPI 5 spd cars got the L98 cam profile but u are by no means any kind of street terror. Probably jsut some kid who beats the living hell out of his car and becouse he can drop the clutch and let the fry he thinks hes fast, but thats pure speculation......

My 1992 RS
I have a tbi to let every one know. It is pretty slow I will be one of the first one to tell you, but it is not geo slow or any thing. It has potential. The reason why it is slow is not because it is tbi but it is because of the heads cam and exhaust. The heads I have heard are one of the most restrictive gm has ever made and the cam is a peanut. With heads cam and a new exhaust I believe it would be very close to tpi if not the same and I am also pretty sure that tbi can have a better power band than tpi because it is like a crab and is closer to the combustion chamber and does not have tube runners that go about 5 feet. But me I would prefer a miniram or multi port, even closer to the combustion camber.
I would'nt say the TBI is slow, but it is not crazy fast. It just has a lot of torque to make it feel fast. Mine is okay, 15.8 stock. i haven't taken it to track with amy of my mods yet, but i am looking forward to it

lets take 1991 as an example year. (look in magazine aritcles sectionon this site) there is an article where they place a 91 rs 5.0/auto up against the 5.0lx/auto mustang........the 5.0rs and the 5.0LX were meant to compete with each other so it would be relativly easy to mod either one up and get some good numbers to smoke cars like yours(but of a different brand) the GT and Z28/Irocs of the day were meant to be pitted against one another too and it would again be easy to mod one up (as in airlcleaner/exhaust) and beat the other one. when you start pitting Z28's V. LX's your gonna get some nasty results....sure i could go around racing all the civics and preludes but i probably wouldnt stand a chance against a GT or Cobra(at least not now). oh yeah i have a rated 190 hp

Buddman: The late 80's early 90's LX (escort looking mustangs) are faster than the GT's. They both have the EXACT same engine, just that the LX weighs like 200 pounds less. But is 200 pounds uglier to. My car is not very fast, (ive rode in a viper, and a newer corvette) and i hope your modded car can take my STOCK car. And yes a 5.0 LX 5 speed will spank your car like no tommorow if its working properly, .... it will even beat my car stock vs stock

I'm glad somebody pointed out that TBI isn't the problem, it's the heads, cam, and intake manifold. TBI is fuel injection system that has more in common with carb than TPI. I don't hear a lot of guys talking about carb

Yeah and I agree with what the dude said a couple posts up from me. That guy said that the Fox Body Mustang GT was meant to compete with Z28 and that the LX was to compete with the RS 305 is incorrect. The LX and the GT are about identical with the exception of ground effects. There is no way a stock RS 305 is gonna beat an 87 up stock fox body 5.0 sorry it isnt gonna happen unless the stang cant shift. I have heard that the 305 TPI's are competitive with the 5.0's though.

Just to prove my point, I want to show you that i wasnt just trying to "flame on 305 tbi's". The new post stock 91 rs..... the guys says..."with a 305 tbi auto stock.... what can i beat???" then they went on to name a bunch of four cylinders.... Im pretty sure the 305 LO3 (i think this is the engine I have) stands for LOW OUTPUT 305

Some one should try to see the difference of tpi and tbi, what are the increase of the hp and tq and see the different power bands and see exactly how much better tpi is than tbi. I could do it any time I wanted I just have to pay 200 for the tpi and some more for the wiring harness but I don’t think that tpi is that much better than tbi, IF ANY bit better. In a couple of weeks I will take apart my stock lo3 after I get a crate and I will show you why lo3 parts are much worse than the cars that came with tpi with my brothers parts of his 87 TA tpi parts that is currently token apart vs my tbi. AND WE WILL ALL SEE

Neither the tpi or tbi engines have a lot of horsepower. But the tpi does have good torque. Thats why it is called TUNED port injection. It is tuned to make power at a certain rpm spread. 345ft.lbs. torque at 3200rpm is alot of torque for a 245hp engine. If you put a bigger cam in the tbi you could equal the horsepower of the tpi but your torque peak would be at alot higher rpm. You would have to get low gears and rev alot higher to have a chance against a tpi car with stock gears.

As for you talking sh*t about your car, I dont know why, it is a PIECE!!!! I paid $5,000 for it so you know it is not a rag like yours, plus I have put around $2,000 into it. My car would light you rag up like it was soaked in turbo blue. Its got Stainless ceramic LPE headers (the ones lingenfelter puts on the new 383 trans ams), a Hi flow 3" cat, and a hooker 3" cat back. The runner, manifold, and plenum have been fully ported and polished by me (your ****ty car was thrown together by a GM factory), You need to ditch that engine and quit talking crap. You are amazing, what the hell does your car run in the quarter. Id be surprised if it was under 17..... I know you got the power windows and all. I look forward to showing you what a "ghetto rigged" car looks like....... hey, if i borrowed your window tint, it might look as ghetto as yours..... Come to ohio, id like to regulate on you!!!

Its got Stainless ceramic LPE headers (the ones lingenfelter puts on the new 383 trans ams), a Hi flow 3" cat, and a hooker 3" cat back. The runner, manifold, and plenum have been fully ported and polished by me (your ****ty car was thrown together by a GM factory), You need to ditch that engine and quit talking crap. You are amazing, what the hell does your car run in the quarter. Id be surprised if it was under 17..... I know you got the power windows and all. first of all i just want you to know your woman gave me that fatboy name that is sort of a down town in my pants type of joke if you follow me. From boreing that a$$ out. Second of all my car happens to be cherry red like your woman was till i got a hold of her now she is just red. Moving on to your car it is also a car in which you put gay ghetto **** such as TBI and power aftermarket products. Unlike mine which has a strong 4bbl holley 750cfm on a perfomer rpm intake. I know, i know you get better gas mileage. But who gets there faster is what really counts. Now my paint is orginal once i learn how to actually paint and not do "finger painting" b/c im such a child maybe i ca have a steaming hot red look but the original is holding strong with a lovely polish and shine maybe i can get you a pick. I must appologize for the cracks about your women im soory i just remembered with a car like that you cant get a women. Well maybe that power antena does something for them that you cant. hmmm where to start.....its pretty clear that both of u are little "butt buddies" with ghetto rigged cars. I dont feel my car (either of them) needs any defence at all, i am not insecure about what i drive, fourtunately for me i dont drive trailor trash third gens unlike some people i know. Moving on to other things......it was a pretty dumb move to put a carb on, lose of throttle response, gas mileage and ur running way to much fuel for a stock 305, which i am assumeing it is since i didnt see an extensive list of mods. God u back yard mechanics that dont know a thing really **** me off. I tell ya everyone here swears thier john force online. God i wich u guys lived near me, id really love to see ur face when u first get a chance to experience what a third gen should look like. One that dont get summer driven let alone winter, but hey u wouldnt know much about collectability of a car, as long as it has crome wiper blades and an injection system that hurts power, but whatever go get some crome tape for ur door jams, until then ill continue to collect mint condition thirdgens......
I understand the 750 concept it is large for the old bastard 305 however when i bought that carb I bought it looking forward to strapping it on my up coming 350 which I hope to have done here soon. I also feel that I should inform you on the obvious fact that thirdgens are not exactly the rarest collectable cars cruizing the scene(exception 1LE B4C) and maybe a crossfire. I also do have a crossfire and I am not going to denie it. The Crossfire isnt exactly the fastest stud out there even with forged pistons, 30 over bore, and performance cam however I like it. As for my carbed car I love it like I said it is cherry It isnt one of those rag bag 305's sitting on blocks with 7 differnt paint colors and the rochester quadrajet laying in pieces next to it with the blue tarp over it. That isnt me that isnt my style to no degree. Also I dont know if you know this obvious fact or not but Tbi's are a dime a dozen hang on to yours for a about 25 years add a few more coats of bondo and you might have something but by then the power antena will be non-functional and the resale will drop drastically along with the value. I figure I might want to let you know that I have never met this importsRsloth guy and he is probably sportin a 2.8 multi port

Its a jetblack iroc, TPI, 5speed, TTops, borg warner posi, some power options but i dont feel like they give me that much horsepower like you... basically its really like ten times more collectible) As for the speed, its still the same, it will still light your car up like a rag dipped in turbo blue. Hey douchebag, why don't you stop ragging on my 305 TBI that is an automatic, and completely stock and GET LOST? Nobody here wants you here. And my car hauls ***** no matter what you say. Its STOCK and it feels 0-60 in low 6's, to high 5s on good traction days.
