Sleeper

This is a dumb post for sure but I just want to point out how awesome it is to kill all those flashy cars at the stop lights. I don't usually race but I do like to destroy everybody else at a stop light (no ticket for acceleration, just speed ).
I noticed that a lot of thirdgens are starting to get flashy and big stere0's etc. Why aren't there many quiet sleepers?
I just think it would be a LOT more fun to kill a fast car in a stock trim camaro.
I can't really talk because I have the z rear spoiler and centerline wheels but I do have a stock hood and a semi quiet exhaust system even though it's a full 3".
Does anybody else feel the same as me or is everybody all flowmaster "sound" freaks?

Yeah, the whole sleeper thing is cool...my car has the stock exterior and the mild 15 inch IROC wheels..(I want bigger ones, but the "go before show" philosophy is telling me to get headers and other stuff first). I do however enjoy burning ricers with their pure vinyl graphic exterior and soda bottle displacement

Hell yeah Jon. Nothing like flipping the nitrous on and passing a new corvette like he was standing still. Meanwhile he gets to look at the single 2.5 inch exhaust

my berlinetta still has pinstripes all the way around the bottom and the gold badges, 14" gold alloys, no gfx, and rusty tailpipes. My greatest asset is that most berlinettas were 2.8's. I plan on keeping it as close to stock looking and quiet as possible, except for those damn tiny wheels. I might even put manifolds on the 350 i put in. and am definitely going to paint the aluminum heads and intake.

I happen to like the sound of the Flowmaster exhaust that I have, but aside from that my camaro is completely stock... err beat up looking. I have to admit it is more fun to destroy flashy cars with a stock looking car, but driving in a tunnel or under a bridge with an exhaust sound like mine is rather satisfying. Oh no, am I starting to sound like a *****?!?

I had about decided that the "sleeper" idea was dead forever. Most of the cars you see now are all graphics and sound. 30 yrs ago most of the quickest cars were very stock looking outside except for wheels. I would much rather spend my money to go fast that look good. Other than window tint I intend to keep my 15" cross lace wheels w/ no other mods. I'll put the $1500 for the stereo, wheels and graphics towards a good crate engine.

Yeah I like to have my car looking stock, except I got the Hooker cat-back with the dual tips, and I have huge a$$ autometer tach with shift lite right on the A-Pillar, personally I would have gone with a smaller size, but it was a gift.

Don't get me wrong, I've wiped out a few mustangs and camaros with my present and past vehicles, but since about a year ago, I've been looking at cars differently. My ltd cannot really be called a sleeper, since it's only slightly faster than stock- maybe a second. It has amazing traction and even with crappy fuel injection- it reacts. The main reason that I win races has to be atributed to me. I'm good from the traffic lights and I can get to the pedal first 99 percent of the time- mainly because I drive with two feet all the time. Of course, I won't pretend that I could get to the floor faster than those of you who have been to the tracks- I've never been. The idea of a sleeper is an unsure thing. Enuf fast third generations are going around that people aren't underestimating as much. A sleeper won't stay a sleeper long. There are vehicles that are the other way. Things that look like they're fast and aren't. Freaked out, white lighted vehicles. Funny thing is, they're becoming sleepers because everybody laughs at how stupid they look and 1 that actually is fast blows them off the highway. So I guess the cars to be afraid of are the ones that you doubt the most.

I am with you all the way on that one Jon. When i took my 305 and put a 350 in, plus had my car painted all with in a matter of 4 months. I was going to add a Z spoiler, a new cowl type hood and ditch the RS trim. Well i changed none of the above. I decided to go sleeper all the way. I don't go looking for races but if one comes my way i have a hard time turning it down. It's funny when a RS can kill a GT or another expensive car. Kinda leaves them all guessin' and muttering to themselves about how they paid too much for thier..... "fast cars".

I'm glad I see a lot of you feel the same way.
Now I think the best thing would be to have a no N2o sticker to make them feel even worse .
I would love to have an 89 trans am with a 383 and stock trim including wheels. I would then TRY and keep the exhaust quiet just because there are other things in life than to listen to a loud exhaust note.
I've had many exhaust sytems on my cars and I think my favorite so far is either my superturbo muffler or this summit 3" unit with single 3" out. Both are really quite but DEEP and sound. Unless you have a huge loppy cam shaft, don't go with a crazy loud exhaust.

How´s this for a european sleeper..
A seriously worn out 86 Z.
Blue metallic-not that it shows anymore.
Looks worn to the bone from the outside.
Interior is completely stock sans the steering wheel-which is an old rally sports.

Sleeper you might ask?
Yeah well..
A 60 over 509 blocked 400 with 12,2 true comp.
A mech cam with a 260 0,05 on a 106 LSA.
Ported TFS G2;s
A ported Edel torquer with a massaged 850 AD ontop and a K&N 3" ontop a that in a Moroso lid.
1 3/4 hookers into a true 2,5" dual out of stainless.
Shiftpoint is 7 large ones.
Ohh yes...and a small blue bottle

This all mates into a WCT5 that´s holding up so far at least

What tells the car apart a little-but no one around here understands anyways..-is the 17" wheels from Borbet and the two stainless pipes exiting on the drivers side.
That..and the noise it makes.

Car is truly built as a pro-tourer and i use it to humiliate bimmer M5;s and other crap out on the open freeway.

This summer me and my old lady used it down to Holland, and we had it at 190mph and still accelerating..

Uh, something tells me he meant miles.
If he's bragging about 190 Kilometers per hour, he's easy to excite. 190 Kilometers/H is doable, stock.
I'm a little skeptical about 190 Miles/H, though. That would be pretty hard to do on a public road, european or not.

Nope.
I ment that in miles per hour, and no...
It isn´t especially hard to do.
Going over 300 km/h is something we do on more or less a regular basis within the group.

Seing the setup of the car it´s by all means feasable.
As reaching 270-280 goes in more or less of a hurry, reaching 300..yeah well.
In fact my old lady´s been in the car several times at those speeds.
European roads ain´t all that much better then the US counterparts.
Difference lies in the way we´re brought into driving AND that for instance our roads in this country are long and vast, leaving miles and miles of open road and just you..

Speaking of roadholding and speed..
Car sports adj gasfilled Konis all around.
600lbs front springs and 240 out back.
Front bones are held in place by aluminium instead of the OEM rubber deal.
Front sway is a homemade deal at 35 mm and the rear at 30-both adjustable.
Welded in SFC;s and some other small tricks and pieces puts it all together.
