ZZ4 or LS1?

Just wanted to hear your opinions on which of these 2 engines is the prefferd option or has better performance out of these 2?

What would you put in if you had the choice??

if cost was not an issue, the LS1. Easy decision. One of these in the lighter thirdgen body would kick@$$.

Umm, I would definitely go for the ZZ4 or the ZZ5 motors, the ZZ4 has a quite good horsepower:dollar ratio, and easy to work on.

I'm saving up for a ZZ5 for my Formula, it will just eat LS1s for lunch when I'm done.

LS1 is more efficient and lighter. Any mods to that engine will probably be a bigger improvement than similar mods to a ZZ4, but will cost more too.

Personally if money wasnt an issue I would get the LS1. One reason is that its just more cool. The second reason is that its like others have said lighter. It would be nutz to have a LS1 3rd gen. Especially with a six speed *drool*

LS1's dont nearly have the torque or torque that a ZZ4 has, however, LS1's are pretty cool.

LS1 is a good motor with a lot potantial for mods but I've read on this very board that it involves a lot of "mods" just to swap it into the Heavier 3rdGen.
If it's a dolar for dollar thing I would go with a ZZ4.

LS1 too much crap zz4 simple; ls1 $$$, zz4 cheap ; LS1 less hp&tq zz4 more hp&tq i dont know but right there would make up my desision but if you are going for more towards turning and stuff like autoX i would go to the ls1 because of its lightness

if you have the extensive time to do it and the money for everything, go for an LS1. if you want an easy and quick swap, go for the ZZ4. and if you have a carb setup right now, go for the engine upgrade kit that GM has for carbed thirdgens. 310 HP out of the box, and direct bolt in.

Do a ZZ4 with TPI (or SLP modified TPI) and you will have a great motor for less than 1/2 the price of an LS1 swap (comparing new ZZ4 vs new LS1)

Just buy the ZZ4 shortblock and throw on a set of Fastburn heads and the LT4 HOTcam kit to build your own "ZZ430". Easy 430 hp, cheaper than a LS1 by far and with 430ish hp quite a bit more powerful... Not to mention worlds easier to get in the car and get setup.

Hey I was just wondering if anyone has heard of an LS1 swap into a thirdgen? I have never seen it before. I saw a swap in HotRod but it was for a 70 Camaro. They ran into a lot of problems....

Check the motor swap board. There's a guy in there that did it. I plan on doing it, but not for awhile.
