Do I really need a roll cage?

I am planning my suspension and everything for the new engine I will be putting in (383...expecting high to mid 11s, plus a 75-150 shot of NOS). This will be my daily driver...and I will want to keep everything in my interior including rear seats. I read a few places that if you run below 12...you need a roll cage. It seems like they would need me to take my rear seats out....I will no longer beable to use my cargo cover...and where will i put my t-tops? The only one ive seen that MAY be ok is the Jegster 4 point cage. Of course I do like the benefits such as safety and looking cool. So do I need it...and if i do...are there any that will let me keep my rear seats and atleast keep the spot where I hold my t-tops clear?

Oh and I want to add that I will be taking it to the track...but only a few times a year.

Yes, you really need a roll cage.
You will get one run in on a track, and they will ban you from it, without a cage.
Because you have t-tops (weakened roof), it'll also help with the chassis flex. I've never owned a car that goes 11's, but I'm guessing that that's a concern.
As for the fitment problems, you can actually get roll cages that allow the use of the rear seats. It's a little harder to get TO the seats, and you can't exactly strech out, but I've seen them before. It might have been a custom job, though. Keep looking at what the major manufacturers offer, you might find something.
I'd recommend putting the t-tops wherever you usually put them.
As for the cargo cover, huh? You want a cargo cover on a car that goes 11's?

NHRA rules require the cage at 11.99 in a hardtop.

IHRA rules require the cage at 11.49.

I had a custom cage built for my 'vert for $500 parts and labor. This is the route I'd suggest as the best way to go.

I have a custom cage in my mustang. It still has the rear seats and complete interior.

Hey Nik, did you go to the Ford event at MIR last week when Billy Glidden ran 6.90 @198.?

Well i just checked..here at the local track (Texas Motorplex) a roll bar is required for cars 13.00 or less.....while an 8 point roll cage is required for cars 10.99 and less. Also a helmet is required for 13.00 or less...and a fire jacket for 11.99 or less. So Im gonna go ahead and get the 4 point roll cage.....looks cool...can keep the rear seats....can put in a racing harness, and take it off easily....and will meet the requirements. Thanks for the info everyone.

Do any of you guys know the roll cage requirement for converitbles? I thought NHRA was anything below 13.99 required a cage in a vert. If thats true then i'll have to keep off the gas.....

first off if its a mostly daily drivin car theres absolutly no reason for a cage, also dont count your horses before there born, make sure it really is a true 11 second car, worth thing is they kick you off the track big deal, and go back and just let a go a little before the line to keep the speeds down, but nothing looks stupider then a car with a cage, net slicks,..ect,.. but really runs like 13's 14's (IE. see "ricers")
