world's biggest sleeper

I was checkin out a Car 'N Driver (or Motortrend-can't remember) and they had a 500hp VW Beetle in there. No stickers-nothin to make it look "fast". How smooth would it be to pull up next to somebody in that? Granted you'd look like a fool initially, but not after you totally destroyed them. I'm a total small block chevy lover-but somethin in me would love to have that

Best sleeper i've ever seen was a late 80's nissan pulsar that was quiet as could be, but it packed RWD, a 350, and ran 12's on motor! I saw it myself!

i thinkthe funniest not a sleeper i ever saw was at englishtown years ago. there was a guy the put a big stoker small block into a yugo. it was wild as hell to watch, just picked up the front and went. not the most stable thing in the world, but definately different.
i hope to have a great sleeper soon, i am working on a turbo project for my **** brown 1984 chevy cavalier 4 door. the turbo will be nice and quit when i go import hunting

later

At a car craft event in the summer, some guy dropped a turbo 3.8 into a cutlass ciera wagon. It ran 12.30's at 111 on snow tires. I would love to line up with a C5 in that thing.

Anybody with any knowledge knows a Grand National is not a sleeper. A sleeper is a 70s Caprice, Crown Vic, Caddy, LTD, or other luxury-type sedan that is made to eb fast as hell but it's not obvious until you're looking at the tailights. Not what I like, but some people do.

I used to run around in a 1979 Pontiac LeMans Wagon. (think Chevy Malibu) It had a 350 and we ended up bolting a Holley double-pumper to it. (I got the Holley off of a friend) The exhaust was so beat up that we could just unplug the cat from the collector, and go to town.
It was stupid fast and at WFO, would leave a black smoke trail like an F-4 Phantom on afterburner.
Great fun, wish I still had it.

My friends 79 Plymouth Volare station wagon is a pretty mean sleeper.

It has...

225 Inline S<x>lant 6
Mopar Performance Cam
3.70 Gears
Hyper-pak 4-barrel Intake
Holley 4-barrel (??? cfm)
Solid Lifters
1.6 roller rockers
Built head with Chevy Valves
Milled/Ported/Polished
3-speed Auto
3000 rpm TC
Lots of weight loss
Lots of other tricks I didn't help out with.

If you have any more questions about what we've done with it just ask, I didn't feel like listing everything.

We did most of this work at his Garage, and let me tell you...this car used to run 19s, now it's into the high 14s. I'm impressed.

It's still got the factory blue color, stock looking motor, and it even has the stock 14 inch steel wheels with the cheapest stock hubcaps.

Yah, but if they're under 25 I've found that 90% don't know what a GN or GNX even is. One of my friends nearly tripped out when I busted a U-ey to turn around and catch a GN to ask to take pictures of his engine. My friend was like "WTF" and I was like "You see that car right there? That is one bad *** car...chances are it'll smoke your Z" He was all like "Chit, ain't no way that car can smoke my Z" so I pulled up next to the guy and asked him what he ran and he busted out w/ "11.8 but I need a little tuning" and my friend nearly threw up. Anyways....a GN would be a good sleeper for the ricers.

The mini-van wins hands down. There are quite a few 500 hp VW's out there believe it or not. I built a pretty serious VW. It was my first project car.

But the mini-van, come on, a 12 second minivan. That's absolutely nuts.

I knew the dodge 2.2 turbo would get into here. Too bad my 88 daytona shelby would be lucky to get into the 15s all stock. 12 sec car with full interior built up though. $7,000 to go mid 12s with FWD, 5 speed/12 way power seats, ugly looking old car no one seems to car about. I think i'd rather go 12s or 11s in my 3rd gen one day. It keeps begging me to hook it up. Damn turbos, good thing I can only drive it a few months of the year when i'm not in college.
