run in wth a 3rd gen trans am
run in wth a 3rd gen trans am
Ok guys, tonight, i was taking my g/f home and i saw a late model firebird(or so i thought). so i desiced to follow and then i get next to him and rev a couple times to let him know i was ready for him. well were still in town and he doesn't want to run. so i keep going and we hit the last red light in my town. i stoped but by the time he got to the light it turned green and i hear him take off, so i follow and know were on a bridgeand he does want to run again. i wait since the bridge isn't thast long and then i hear him hit it. as soon as he does i hit it too. we were going from about a 40-45 mile hr role..... he get on me since he hits it first and he's about 1/4 car length in front and then its all over. i pass him way easier then i thought i was going to.well we keep running and about 90-95 or so i have to hit my overdrive(which is supper slow) and then he finally blows by me. he gets in front of me becuase of traffic and the he flashes with his brake lights signaling that it was over, so i flash him back and turn around to head back home. now i thought that car was gona whoop me cuz i thought all trans ams are fast *** hell. but i geuss not. any ways that made my night.

You sure it was a T/A and not a base model Firebird? The clear marking of a T/A is the louvres on the side of the front 1/4 panels.
Yes i'm sure it was a trans am, it only said it on the back bumber and the side. i think u guys are just mad that a truck, bone stock, took out a trans am!

Nah I don't think it's unlikely, but the race was a little hard to quantify since it was from a roll... might have been different with a standing 1/4 mile race. The fact of the matter is that there are any number of factors that would give you the win. You may have raced a punk who couldn't drive to save his *** ... Also, there is the 305 vs 350 factor and your truck may be light enough to give most cars a run for the money. For all we know it could have been an 82 Lg4 (140 hp?) Trans am with auto and 2.xx rear end...
Those are just excuses we could use, but a kill is a kill so congrats...

Congrats on the kill, but I have to agree with these guys and turn down the whole T/A thing. I once raced a 95 chevy short-bed with a stock 350 and kicked his *** good. That was before I did any mods to my 305, it was just stock 305 tpi vs. stock 350 truck (which is TBI right?). Anyway, if it was a late model thirdgen. I take my hat off to ya, cause you must be a hell of a driver.

i've been beat by a sport truck. then again, it *was* a 2001 lightning that ran 10s.
the guy wouldn't race my bike for some reason though. would have been a good run.

Decently worked 87 GTA; finally got a good time out of her: 12.72 @ 116.4mph

thanks to all the guys on here who are giving me credit. you guys are cool. i don't know what size engine it had in it, but i know it was slower then i thought it was gona be. maybe that guy couldn't drive for $h!T, but i can. yeah, i have the tbi
by the why i have a question for u guys, u say that a convertable is hevier? how is that posible, i thought they would be lighter. i don't know, i just want to clear that up. all my friends think that they are better for racing cuz they are lighter.
oh yeah another question:
There is this Iroc-Z in my town, not sure what it has in it or anything about it except that its a convertable and has exhaust done to it. could i take him. my friend in his truck(exaclty like mine, but an auto with a chip and everything esle like mine) took out the Iroc. i am only about 1/2 to a car length slower then my friend due to the chip. cant figure that one out! anyways, could i take the Iroc??

Reasons why convertables are worse for drag racing:
Less torsional strength in body, more drage caused by the rag-top and lack of fastback... and yes convertables are almost always heavier.
The reason they are heavier (my understanding) is that the body is beefed up a lot more to compensate for the lack of roof for structural integrity... Think of it this way, a bridge made of an arch can support much more weight than just a flat bed made with the same amount of material... so to support the same amount of weight with the flat bed you need to use more material.
That was a little complicated, but I think I got the point across.
