beat by a mustang gt
beat by a mustang gt
me and my friend were driving around lookin for a good race and we find a what we thought was a heavily modded 93 mustang gt we pull up to him he asks if we want to run em and knowing me i always except the challenge so i go yeah we pull outta town my friend yells go we hit it at first i stayed with him for the first 2 1/2 3 seconds and then the guy just pulled away and by the time we got a mile he was 2 car lengths ahead of us. Then I asked him what the hell he had in it he goes yeah new exhaust, k@n's and cold air induction with a 5-speed. I think the guys full of sh*t but getting beat that bad with my 88 5.7 iroc is just plain crap. so if you guys got any good ideas on what i should do to mod my car please help me i can't be embaressed again like this, and especially since there was a car load of other people watching the race and laughing. So any feedback is more then welcome thanks

I don't doubt at all thats all he's done to his car. A freind of mine had a 92 convertable that with a K+N, h-pipe, dynomax muffelers, and a 3.73 ran a 13.9 at the track on drag radials. (5 speed car BTW) I was there to see it. Power wise you guys should be close to even but the 5 speed in his car probably is what really made the diff. I'll bet if you'd had headers and a cat back you'd be dead even with him provided your car is running good and the tranny is good.

All I have is an Exhaust and gears and I went 14.4 with my crappy Automatic. I am converting to 5-spd soon so I am hoping to hit about 14.0 flat. We will see though.

as for mods for your car since you didnt say whats in it, i would say get some 3.73's if you dont have something already, the usual headers and catback/high flow cat, and if you can get a cam if you really wanna beat him.

Superchevy, I think with a set of gears and a torque converter he would be looking at nothing but your taillights.

SC, I would first find out what your car has besides a 350 TPI. Find out your gear ratio, thats the main thing. 3:42's are the best all around gears and come stock on some of our cars. Intake and exhuast are the most important issue to focus on. Look in the tech articals on modding your intake. Get a nice highflow cat or if possible take your Cconverter off and slap a test pipe on there then a high flow muffler to top it off.
You could probably out run the car you raced with a few hundred bucks worth of mods.

Plans: Possibly add N20 for next season.
82 Firbird, rebuilt 355 for it and slaped a 700r4 in. The 700r4 crapped out so back to the tb350

First of all....
if thats really ALL he had, you should have beat him, or at least tied.
And I know this from experience.
Second. If your Iroc is completely stock, I would do the "free mods" and then throw gears on it and full exhaust and you'll turn the tables.

From what I read, you raced him with a passenger in your car. Did he have one in his? That extra weight differential would have given him an advantage. If you can race him again, try it without the passenger, you will keep up with him and possibly beat him.

well it started out he reved at me on some street before we went outta town to race and i beat him on that street but then when we went outta town where he beat him he had his passenger drive against me (proabbly because his passenger really knows how to drive im assuming)
