Winter + racing = bad

I know all the non-thirdgen posts are getting closed, but this is camaro related and probably good advice for anyone who hasn't taken their car off the road yet.

On Saturday night after we got our first 4 or 5 inches of snow I was driving with my girlfriend from my house to her house in her car. It is an awesome 98 Saturn SL1, Plum of course ::snicker::. I pulled up and blew by a 93-97 Z28. (Blew by = me 40mph, him 35mph) He was smart and didn't try to keep up. On the other hand my friend wrecked the nose of his 96 Z28 from spinning out on ice last year trying to keep up with some slow car.

The moral of this seemingly pointless story: When you see a Saturn with a big Weezer logo on the back blow by you in the snow just let it go.

I was out playing around in the snowstorm too Saturday night. Of course, I wasn't in the Mustang with Spin Wheel Drive, I was driving my mom's new Durango around.

I was in a parking lot testing it out (just to learn how it would act if i got in trouble) and I was flooring it off the line in 4WD. I was spinning but the sucker TOOK OFF throiugh 4" of snow like nothing. I couldn't beleive that it was actually putting me back into the seat somewhat (It's got a good first gear..but then it slugs out)Then I tested out the ABS and how it turns and such. I was having a blast! At 4AM I had to help pull a friends car out that couldn't get off the snowbank he hit! lol

OK, to keep from being locker, i'll talk about a little race i had saturday morning. I had some guys in a 94-98 V6 Mustang riding my *** . This thing was hideous. It had the clear tails, ugly wing, THE UGLIEST body kit you ever saw, not to mention two fart mufflers out back and painted neon green!! Anyway, he was riding my *** for a good 5 mins pissing me off. I mean he was falling back 2 or 3 cars and then accelerating (slowly) to about 1 foot off my bumper. I was tempted to slam on my brakes.

Anyway, he swings out to the middle lane finally and punches it and I hear the car screaming this horrible sound as he pulled even. The "Homies" inside both look at me (both looking as if they are reclining to the back seat) and start laughing at me as if they are blowing my doors off? I nail the gas and get a nice clean 3-1 downshift and pull even and pass them like they are standing still. I wish I knew what it sounded like to head my off-road pipe as i roared by the window.

We pull to the next light and he pulls up. I hear the other guy telling him to "use the NOS dawg..smoke him!" So I roll my eyes and sit there. Nitrous on a 140HP 3400LB car isn't gonna help. Well, after a "interesting" conversation, he takes off on the green. He didn't do too bad for the first 10-15 feet...but I had him again.

Then came the inevitable 100MPH flyby 12" from my door.

Whatever........

Wasting a snow covered parking lot on an SUV is a herracy... That's exactly what a winter driven RWD sports car is for... a couple snow tires is all you really need and a brain.

man i wouldnt dream of drivin my camaro in the snow. it would be the most helpless turd in teh snow you ever saw. now my 85 toyota tercel 4wd station wagon on the other hand is a little monster in teh snow. it has snow tires all around and doensnt have enought power to spin, so it is great, just floor it and drive away. all the guys drivin mustangs and camaros and 2wd trucks that laugh at me the other 364 days per year, get laughed at by me in my blue rust bomb in the snow, it is hilarious!!
