1986 z28 vs 2011 g37 sedan

Ok a guy that i graduated with got a brand new g37 sedan and he thinks its some kind of race car because he can beat a new v6 camaro from a 50 mph roll.....he tells me all the time that he's gonna take me out next but i told him if we did then we would have to do it from a dig and he agreed....so since my car is stockish do you think ill have trouble with him???? My best 1/4 mile time was a 14.1 in bad weather and slightly bogging it off line.....i really dont want to lose to a four door so please give me some insight

A stock AWD can run a 13.5 and the RWD usually about a 13.7.

330 hp 7speed auto. I would put my money on him if he can drive.

Re: 1986 z28 vs 2011 g37 sedan

A G37 is effectively a 370z with a fat chick crammed the passenger seat, basically the same powertrain plus a few hundred pounds.

If it's a G37X (the AWD model), consider road conditions when taking him on. He'll probably get the launch on you. If the G is a manual then hope he sucks at driving it. Many Infiniti drivers don't know jack about their car.

Think you could beat a 370z with a fat chick riding shotgun?

No 4door car is fast when you drive it around a parking lot. You find out if its fast either when the Light turns green and you bury the pedal, or when your speeding on the onramp to catch up to traffic.

If your only getting 14.1 out of a 350 with ported heads, ported HSR intake, 2000-stall speed with full exhaust, then something is wrong, and I can tell you right now it is in the tuning. You bogging off the line because your running lean, you need to tweak the acceleration enrichment and spark advance in the chip, then you will at least hang with him if he pulls a mid thirteen second pass...

Do you think i would be better off running a stock 350 chip instead of the pcmforless tune?i figured they could get it pretty good since its pretty stock

Re: 1986 z28 vs 2011 g37 sedan

You will get him off the line if you know how to hook. Off the line advantage is in your favor. 4 door G37s are heavy and the VQ37 only has 270 Torque. That engine has better top ends and HP so he will catch up. I've driven my friend's G37 coupe and off the line its not all that, but once it starts pulling it does not stop, and they pull hard.

when i ran the 14.1 that was with a soft launch and leaving the shifter in drive (no tach or shift light) and a 1.9 60 ft and the DA was 2300 and i drove my car on the hour and a half trip to the drag strip.....oh and that was my first time drag racing ever

Wow lmao!

I have a friend who has a G37X sedan and he always says he will beat me. Of course he will bc I have a 305 with slight mods and it still not that fast. I guess he feels good saying that bc he knows I have no chance. I want to swap the motor to a LS1 or like a 396 and then race him but I wont tell him i did a swap lol.

Re: 1986 z28 vs 2011 g37 sedan

yea he was such a good driver that he couldnt even make it out of the parking lot of his work without hitting a tree.....turns out its not totaled......and i have since replaced my regulator with an adjustable kirban unit which seemed to put alot of oomph back in the z and i out in an aluminum driveshaft so maybe i can do alot better times next time i go to the track....and the air is way better now.....and with either engines it should be pretty obvious that you have something else
