IROC Z vs the 5th gen SS Camaro
We ran the cars twice. Both times were to close to call. Felt really good to stay beside a pedigree like the SS. Once I change my rear end and get a posi the IROC will smoke him! Im really proud of my 3rd gen. I bet the driver of the SS was heart broken. What do u think?

5th gens are heavy pigs but pack alot of hp.
good runs. That is 400+hp car all day. Stock.
The ones ive run down were none too happy.

Re: IROC Z vs the 5th gen SS Camaro
yeah he has a true SS with 426 hp. it was yellow with after market wheels and a black stripe down the side of it.
maybe he will read this post and want a rematch. hah.. this went down in lower part of NC.
my car has a first gen 350. fresh rebuild. it has GM phase 2 bowtie heads with 750 Demon carb double pumper. Chet Herbert cam. headers and 2.5" exhaust. 2000 stall. fresh 700R4. 342 gear in rear. AND ITS GETTING FASTER!

Re: IROC Z vs the 5th gen SS Camaro
Nice! I've driven a 5th gen SS and they're no slouch.
Last night I was gonna call BS on this but then I got to thinking, "What if he's modded?" I've had many gen 1 SBC's that could leave on or run down a 5th gen so I refrained.
Those heads are what's making the power in your engine. Depending on the cam specs you might want more stall. But then you'll need sticky tires. And then you'll want a rearend that won't break, etc, etc...
Not to be all anecdotal but about 30 years ago I built a 327 4-bolt main engine (010 block with large journal steel crank + lots o' good stuff) with a set of Bow Tie heads and a roller cam that had a 7500 red line. I spent roughly 40 hours deburring and blueprinting that engine. It had an 850 annular discharge (the hot new thing back then) Holley bolted on top of of a Holley Strip Dominator. That was mated to a worked TH350 with 3500 stall and a 4.11 geared baby 10 bolt (8.2") in a gutted 68 Chevy II Nova. Car ran 12.0x at LACR so I figure 11 second ride at sea level...

Re: IROC Z vs the 5th gen SS Camaro
Personally I think the idea of a 5th gen being 4000lbs+ is ludacris - that is why it needs a 426hp motor to make it move halfway decent...

New SS is posting high 12s on youtube. Not bad for a heavy 400+hp car. GM did well on gearing.

A new SS would rape a stock L98 period!! But if its going against a modded motor its anybody's guess.

You make it sound like he picked on a stock civic. A new SS is a good race. Don't be such a douche.

Re: IROC Z vs the 5th gen SS Camaro
I have both, an '89 IROC L98 with some basic bolt ons and a '10 SS L99 with intake, long tubes, catless magna flow catback and custom tuned. The 5th gen will rape my IROC. The key is the 5th gens are 400hp but that's not to the wheels. And the stock tune is not aggressive enough to compete with modified cars. If you happen to run across a modified 5th gen the results may be a little different..... But run what you brung right?? Good kill

Re: IROC Z vs the 5th gen SS Camaro
The race was street car vs street car. I was the under dog and he was taunting me. My bottom end is pretty muvh stock. My rearend is peg leg and out of a v6 car. I have spent 7600 bucks on my car in the past ten years. Its hardly moded. Just has some good heads. All i can say is tje Iroc held its ground.
Re: IROC Z vs the 5th gen SS Camaro
New shelbys are insanely fast my mustang can't touch stock ones on the street and I have procharger long tunes xpipe cat 3 in back ford racing manifold and tune and all supporting suspension. Mods dynoed at 507 I like to play with them in my gta. But it's hopeless
