I was crusin on freeway tonight and a supra pulls up to me and rides even for a second ( so I thought nothing of it ) than I pulled ahead of him a little but nothing big and than he drops a gear and fly's by me. So overcourse I wanted to race than, so I punched it and pulled up to where he was. We were crusin for a second than I Punched it and he down shifted at the same time and I could not believe it but he was pulling on me. Between 70 and 110 he pulled a car and a half on me. (I knew that supras were fast if they were the twin turbo ones but never got to race one). So I was kinda pisstoff about losing so I folowed him for a minute ( hoping he would get off the freeway so I could have a street race with him ) and he did about 2 miles later. I pulled up to him and we notted at each other to race again but there was traffic so we couldent. So we drove about two lights farther and he both got in a position two race. The light turned green and I spun a little and took off kinda slow and he shot a by me by about a car lenth than about top of first gear I punched it and statarted to catch him. Finaly I pulled evan about 60MPH and than passed him and beat him to about 80 MPH and we both slowed down cause we were coming up on another light with trafic. We both wanted to go again but there was too much trafic so he folowed me to a gas station adn we both checked out each others cars . He was cool, he was older than me( I'm 20 and he was 27 )and said he had never lost to a thirdgen before and I told him that I had never lost to a Import before. His car was a Twin Turbo with some good mods including turnig up the boost, exuast adnd some some other minor stuff. He went to the track a little while ago on street tires he get a 13.6 at ( I think he said ) 110 MPH. Cant remeber his MPH but I know he said 13.6. After that he had to go see his wife so we left both in shock about the whole thing.

 

what mods do you have to your car
those things respond hella well if it was the twin turbo type
and if he turned up the boost as well as exhaust that alone would pull him lower then a 13.6 I think. those things are hella quick and way too easy to mod... damn the turbo's they are so easy to work with

either the guy has problems driving or he lies about what mods have been done to the car

He musta been BONE stock to only beat you by a car and a half on the highway. What mods have you got? I want to race a Supra sooooooooo bad its not even funny. Too bad you only see about one every 4 months around here.

 

There's a guy that races in our bracket class with a TT MKIV Supra w/auto transmission that's bone stock. So far the best I've seen him run was a 13.70 in 40 degree weather. In warmer weather he's usually in the 14.10's - 14.20's...those cars are quick and turbo's LOVE cold, dense air. I wouldn't consider them rice at all, but one of those few asian imports that are worth racing, like the RX7's, TT 3000 GT's, NSX, etc.

 

those supra's are extremely quick, i know two people that have ones.

My friend has a 85 (First year in the states) with the Inline 6 Hemi, 5 speed, limited slip posi, and hes planning on a turbo soon. Thats a fast one.

The other one i dont know the specs on it. Its like a 97 twin turbo with so much done to it. He has over 600 HP, and its one of the fastest supras on the east coast without NOS. He came home from the track one night and i had to jump him cause he overreved his alt. and fried it.

People like my my friends make me not wanan race supras. Other ricers are ok though. lol

I got smoked by a silver twin turbo supra like a year ago. My car is pretty quick, never had it to the track but I've beaten many LS1 Z28s and new mustangs. This supra left me so fast I was totally shocked. Of course for the money the guy probably spent on it, I could build a killer thirdgen.

 

Tom I'd love to give you a run with my car. I have beaten quite a few LS1 Z28's/SS's. But I did manage to get my *** handed to me by a mildly modded C5. Oh well!

 

Here in Tucson we have soooo many fast Supras. At the place we meet in Fri. and Sat. (where some go and race and others just to chill) There is always atleast 2 or 3 newer Supras. One guy runs a 10.4 @ like 123

 

Houston is famous for having some fast Supra's. There's a ton of 9 and 10 second Supra's running around. What's so scary is they drive to the track with the A/C on, stereo blasting, bolt on the slicks, throw in some race gas, turn the boost control **** run some low 10's, then drive back home.

 

My mods are in sig. He said he turned up the boost a little bit and did a couple other small things with exaust. It was a fast car- I have always known about those being fast but never got to race one firs hand till now. Well he beat me once and I got him back so I guess were evan till we see each other again. Also I am more confindent that I am well into at least mid to low 13's with my slicks now. I dont really trust my g-tech that much.

I agree that it's pretty impressive to be able to cruise to the track and nail 10s and cruise home, but these guys spend sooo much money. A used mid 90's twin turbo supra is probably at least 20 grand, then add in turbos computer chips cams and whatnot, you end up with a huge bill, put that money into a small block and look out.

 

Back when the weather was nicer here my dad was at the track with his Mustang, and he never raced the TT Supra we saw, but if you average out the runs, the Mustang was quicker.
The Supra had, Nitto Drag Radials, Full exhaust, and that was all I could see. He ran 3 SLOW runs:

There are a few 11-13 second TTs running around, but nothing here on the street in the 11s. They all run more boost at the track and race gas. Makes for a fast 12-13 second street car and a fast 11-12 second race car.

There was a twin turbo supra at Seattle international raceway last year running hi-12s I never raced but one of the cascade crew members did and got spanked I would beware of the 300gtvr4's, 300ZX, RX7's, and the supra's because they all have the Twin turbo option. They are pretty fast out of the box, however, they are much more expensive to modify.

 

i dint knwo that 3000GTvr4 had a turbo option...

cos ive killed one VR4 here ....

um dude sorry to tell you this but ALL VR-4 are turbo with AWD

I do not really see how your car could have beat it but if so not bad being that the V6 car is only what a 17.x car in the 1/4 I would really like to know the mods you had going for you to beat it?

sorry to put a little damper on the race you said you had with the car but I do not really see how you could have wont unless the person wasn't racing, really did NOT know how to drive. or just was playing with you.

and 0-60 in around 10.2

ok to start off this car is red and has a grey 3000GT logo with a little VR4 written in the side....

i donno if he was playing with me or not....

on the start he smoekd tires .... so i stepped on it .... so did he ....

he shot off.. but i caught up...(dont ask me if he was sbad racer or what) (this chinese guy was tryin i could see that)

i can probably go over and ask him wether it is a sticker or a real vr4 ... cos he lives a few blocks from me ...

my car is modded.... but not that much ... if its 320 hp ur right he was playing with me ....

yeah my engine is a 3.4.... with high compression...

and till my tranny was running ok ... i was running low 16's

now my tranny is slipping as well...

 

You caught up when he let off the gas....sorry to tell ya. You did NOT beat a Vr4 unless he had 2 of his plugs off, his boost turned to zero and had a flat tire.

 

prolly not a VR-4 that he was racing you with but prolly a 3kGT rice type and if he says it is a VR-4 I am going to have to call

racing low 16's?

if you notice the stats I pull that car is mid 15 bone stock

so far the stats I found go from 15.4-15.7
still lower then a low 16
so he also needs to learn how to drive or tune his car up and fix his problems before he tries to race other ppl cause his car is able to do more then what he was doing

 

The 3000GT VR4's have the turbo option. And I'm sure they will run in the 14's easy, I test drove one and they are a well desighned car, with 4 wheel steering I would bet that guy put a VR4 sticker on I don't know why people do stupid stuff like that My brother put a 5.0 sticker on his 4banger mustang in highschool....Oh well? The VR4's are the only turbo 3000GT's stock, so if it has no VR4...it's a slug

yeah rx7speed ur right i can NEVER pull 15s unless i serioulsy mod my car even more ( it would be cheaper to get a v8)

maybe he hada bad enginee.... but trust me it felt good....
