Beaten by a Navigator!!!

I pull up at this light last night and there is a Lincoln Navigator beside me, he says" wanna run 'em?" I looked at him and said sure. The light turns green, we go and I take him off the line, but he catches me and had passed me by 60mph! I guess that's what I get for being cocky. My car is kinda running badly, but I still think I shoulda beat him. I think I run low 15's, if I can ever get my car to run right.

I'm a technician at a Lincoln/Mercury dealer and can tell you even the newer 300HP Navi's are SLOW. Probably high 16's at best (they are close to 5700 lbs). You're in pretty bad shape if you got beat to 60.

My guess is the guy had some serious mods, cause why would a Navigator initiate a race with a Camaro unless he was pretty sure of himself? My car is very loud, and sounds real tough, it just isn't yet. Or maybe my car is running worse than I thought.

I do that all the time to kids in mustangs and LT1's. On the street, the only race I have lost so far(been in about 20 or so), in my Grand Cherokee, was to a '98 vette, and I took him to 52mph! The navi had some mods, but an L03 can't beat very many other cars with V8's. By the way my jeep is a 5.9liter with 3.73's and all-wheel drive, and three or four bolt ons. It runs high 14's with a 1.89 60 footer.

There are some blown Navigators running around, maybe you ran up against one of them.

I'm just asking, but wouldn't a car have to run low 13s for that kind of a 60' time? again just asking.

no, the 5.9 limiteds(special HO model 1998 only) have full time 4-wheel drive, a high factory stall(like 2300 or so), 3.73's with trac-loc rear differential, and 335lbs ot rorque stock. On top of that, mine now has accel ignition, flowmaster cat-back, K&N FIPK, underdrive pulleys, taylor race wires. So my torque and hp have got to be up. It ran a 15.400 with a 2 flat 60 ft time when it was stock. If you stall it up and floor it, it launches like nothing you've ever seen on the street(well except those wheel stand guys lol). The problem comes in when aero dynamics and 4300lbs start to hold it back after 60mph. Hopefully, after my engine swap in my camaro, I'll be able to keep up with the jeep.

Living in detroit there is all sorts of fun stuff running around. I have run into one of those supercharger Navigators and Got raped like you. I have no real mods and I got killed. Just to tell you I think I ran into it they have to be pushing high 4's in hp. Keep your chin up, put your stuff in and find him again.
