say "well you didnt beat me that bad! i could have had you" or people who say "i was keeping up with you pretty good" when you know you just beat them by buslengths

i think most of the guys who talk BS really know whats up. they just want to save face in front of their friends. my example of a pure BSer was this guy in a worn 85' T/A that he claimed had a Vette motor in it. I asked him what it ran, and he replied "low 12s". Barely containing my laughter at this point, i had him pop his hood, and low and behold... the original carbureted 305!!! Not callig himout just yet i asked him if he wanted to race a real Vette motor (this was when my car was still stock). He agreed and i popped my hood to show him what a Corvette motor should look like. When he saw the awesome TPI, he commented, "well, maybe the race will be closer than i thought". we lined up and he rolled down his window and said to me "so...you ready to kick my ***?" i think these people know their cars are really slow, as this guy proved (it just took awhile for the realization to kick in). but i guess there are a few who are just plain stupid

I hate it when people refer to it as the "vette" motor. If it was a vette motor then it would be in a vette or have come out of a vette!! Anyway I know a guy that lived down the street from me say that his 90 Astro van would whip my cars ***!! This was when I had the 305 that was dying. We ended up racing and I walked the dog on him. About a week later the harmonic balancer ripped off stripping the keyway and cracking the crank (not in half but by a counterweight). That slow *** 305 was running high 11's in the 1/8 (thats about a 17 or 18 in the 1/4
) Imagine what I would do to him now!

I could be considered one of those people.
I swear that I'll beat my cousins Thirdgen. He has an '84 SE with an '86 driveline and the only mods are a full exhaust and 3.73s. We joke around alot, but I'm pretty confident I'll beat him. My car is in the sig, what do you think???

There's a kid at work who claims he has a turbo, supercharger and 6 valves per cylinder in his civic. Of course, I call his bluff and low and behold no car to show me. I drove my t/a to work before I got it painted, and he says he can kill me, mainly because I have an auto and he has a standard, and my car had 1984 paint and bondo on it. What a load of crap. I won't race him because if I get caught, it isnt worth it.
Another claims civics are really fast. He cited that a civic beat a corvette. obviously a turbo civic would beat a mid 70's smog motored vette. I pointed out that when his car has more than 4 cylinders or some sort of serious modifications then we can talk about fast.
I can remember a kid at school who has a 6 cylinder mustang around a 97 or so. This other kid with a 90 or so integra beat him slightly. The kid stopped talking about how fast his mustang was. The funny thing was the kid with the integra thought the same thing, but my buddy with his cutlass supreme (3.4 DOHC, actually moves pretty good) blew him away.
There is one kid I know with a 95 Z28. Claims it can now easily run in the 12's with a cold air intake and an airfoil. ALways ranks on how slow my 6 cylinder camaro is. Of course, even if I have to run a little blue bottle in the back, his Z is going down with the trans am.

I guess I have more realistic friends. When I first got the Iroc 5.7L, the first words out of my brother's mouth was "3 of your cylinders is more displacement than my whole engine!"
My boss at work told me he'd kick my *** in a race. He's got an early 90's Cobra with about 10 grand in it (nice cushy job with nice cushy salary.) It's a 340-something now with a 5 speed I believe. I told him to give me 10 grand to put into my car, then we'll have a race.

There's an easy way to shut your friends up, it's called going to the local drag strip and proving it. Since I'm more than a full second faster than any of them it's usually a pretty quick tone of voice change..from.."you're car ain't.....wait until I get a turbo or N2o!", I just laugh and tell them it'll never happen. They're all wrapped up in school and burning money on other things that they'll never have the cash to make a fast car. If anything, they'll have to buy a TT 300z or something to that order. When they do I'll just have to out due them again and get some turbos myself

I noticed all S-10's and F-150's think there fast. Althought I have a V-6 car, my S-10 friend who claims his truck is amazing got whooped (96 S-10) yup he blamed it on mising 3 and grinding it... I was like line her back up. But he wouldn't.
I even beat an old 305 Presianne. 3 times before he would believe it. The first time, his floor mat made it so the gas couldnt go to the floor. The second time he said he wasn't ready, and the third time he gave in.
I never raced an F-150 thought cause I know my car would lose, and I can admit that I will lose, but I do know a V-8 Thirdgen would win. It just gets on your nerves when people think there fast and are not.
I am by no means fast, But when I win, I like the see some respect shown to the car, no lame excuses.

please don't take offense TPI89 this isn't directed in anyway towards you, but I really don't care for the vette at all. It makes me sick that no matter what when you are looking at a thirdgen or any (usually) camaro for sale it has the almighty "Vette Motor" like even in the middle of the 70's these cars had 400hp. I am so sick of hearing that for a sales pitch. I usually reply "So what?" Sorry for ranting had to vent.
i always love the ones that go throught he whole "your car is junk" routine and then won't shoiw up to the track for a good run/timeslip/video beat down because they "don't want to break their car" lol
if my car is a piece of junk and your's is the $hit why are you the one afriad of breaking your car and i am the one willing to run mine??? hmmm, funny, they never have an answer or money to put up on a quick street race....lol

Well, I've never heard the "vette motor" sales pitch... i know the L98 was originally a vette motor and it was a big deal when they put it in a thirdgen... dumbed down a little though. I love vettes myself, they are truely a great value when you compare them to the competition.
The L48 was never implemented in the f-bodies... but I got a carb off one and I may install it someday... I may be one of those friends saying "I have a vette carb under the hood" LOL.
But seriously, why do you hate my friends? (see topic to understand my strange sense of humor)

no offense taken, super83z. i too, am sick of hearing about vette motors in camaros and firebirds. vette motors belong in corvettes. and it wasnt a L98 installed in the 87-92 fbody. it was a different 350 (similar to the L98), dubbed option code B2L. it had cast iron cylinder heads instead of the corvette's aluminum ones, and i believe the cam was different. the exhaust manifolds, and ECM were different too. thats mostly why the corvette 350s are a half second faster than the fbody version.

its funny I think when I bought my 95 off a local used car dealer he still said something like"yeah its got the 350 vette motor" like the 350 was only available in the vette and this is some wicked "rare" Camaro Z28 made with it. I just did one of these
and bought it anyway. whatever though guess that is the way it will always be.

L98 was used s the order code for the 350 motor but the "true" L98's where the vette ones. GM created that confusion. B2L was the IROC code.
Here on base we have whats called a Auto hobby shop. It's like full service bays you rent by hr I've do all my work there and I'm well known and the staff sends people with chevy Q's to me, but anyway this guy who is not a reg there tryed hard to convince me his RS's TBI motor was a tuned port injected motor-haha
! So I walked him down 2 stalls and showed him the error of his ways.

That vette motor pisses me off too. They should just say it's a 350 with vette heads when talking about the L98. It's almost as bad as people calling soda, pop, what is up with that?
If somebody tells you the car has a vette motor, just tell them that you hope it isn't the L48 from 1975 which was rated at 180bhp but was really only 165hp with accessories bolted on. Talk about your slow 350, the 305 TBI Lo3 at least cranked out 170hp at the crank with accessories (proven by 20% drivetrain power loss and a bunch of dyno runs).

You must be from the coast.
I'll tell people that my engine is based off the Vette's engine, but I make sure they know that I have iron heads, etc... This is why I use "B2L" in my sig instead of "L98".
And I have "Vette" spark plug wires.

hey whats wrong with people from the coast to call soda ... pop. huh? i was born in pittsburgh,pa and everyone there stil calls it pop or soda-pop. but when people do say i have a vette motor thats just stupid its a 350 block with vette heads like someone said before. if u want a vette motor go rip one out of a vette and put it in ur thirdgen and then u can say "i have a vette motor"

If you call it that there is no problem. I am talking about when you are looking to buy a car and just because it has a 350 it has to be a "vette" motor. Like g0d forbid that any other car, other than the vette get a 350.

reminds me of this kid i talked to at the track last year... he had a chevy 1500 p/u and claimed it had a "vette motor" in it. of course it was the original 350 vortec. i popped my hood and asked him "does your engine look like this?" he replied "no". so i told him that it wasnt a vette motor then. just because its a 350 doesnt mean its from a vette. i believe salesmen use this lie to entice the uneducated into buying a car. truth to be told, if a little commision were involved, i would probably do the same thing
