I think the 396 is the one to watch out for. Unless I'm wrong the 350 will run maybe high 13's possibly low 14s, then again I might be wrong. Either way that's one beautiful car.

Well there was a '69 Camaro SS 350 at the track when I was there last and the best time was 15.5 out of all of his runs. Bone stock except for an aftermarket intake.

If the car is an LT1 it was 350 horse or thereabouts. If it was a step down, its 330 horse. These are just gross numbers though, and GM is notorious for using awful exhaust manifolds and air cleaners, and they can hold an older car back. Race it and see. If it was a big block, I'd say no chance. My father has a 454 .030 over in his 67 and it HAULS. Much faster than all of the LT1 f-bodies I've been in. But remember, these cars can have some terrible traction as they werent really set up to take off. My fathers has the 6 cylinder suspension with no posi, and it is a bear to launch. You cannot floor the car until 2nd gear. I could take him on the launch with my 305. But, after hes hooked hell blow by me like im standing still as that big block hooks up and it feels like the hand of *** pushes you in the seat.

yeah you gotta remember horsepower was rated differently back then

stock for a 69 350 is prolly 300 gross HP

which is equal about 260 net HP today

i think you will take him

Can he race a 4 speed at all? I think you will probably take him down, due to traction, and weight. Good luck hope you win! It would be nice to say you beat a classic 69 Camaro SS.

The car is a 69 so unless it has been treated as a show car it is probably not stock. And whether it is a big or small block it could be fairly slow or it could be very quick there are so many variables.

Guys, just wanted to tell you I raced a '70 Nova tonite with a new Crate 350/350 motor, he had 3.73 gears and traction bars.. I took that car like he wasnt even there... those older cars are too heavy, they do okay at mid and high's, but the stop and go time is slow.

Am I wrong? Wow.. I just thought that car was so much more weight than mine, it was huge compared to my car. Maybe I was wrong, maybe mine weighs more, but to me it seemed like the older muscle cars weigh alot more

The biggest killers to the old cars is the wheels and tires. They almost all had 6 inch wheels and then a 7 inch tire. That and a suspension design that wasnt the greatest makes for some slow launches. According to my dad how they did it back in the day was you just put slicks on the car. On some of the cars slicks and headers would be worth 2 seconds.
Straight off of the showroom floor it could probably cut mid 15.

My Dad's 68 Nova weighed in at 2900lbs with him in the car and at least half a tank of gas. There isnt that much to muscle cars in the way of options and smog crap so they dont weight that much. Plus the Nova is a sub frame car which makes it lose some weight compared to say a full frame Chevelle (which is still about the same as our cars)

P.S. my dad only weighs 150lbs though

a guy at my track has a 69 Z28 with the race 302 motor and ran a 14.4. unless its a big block, you shouldnt have a problem. with those skinny 60s era tires he probably sporting, hell have alot of trouble hooking up. And FYI 1991tealRSt-topGuy, the LT-1 was also availible in corvettes from 70-72.

I have an 88 IROC stock 350 with 700r with flows. I raced one with a 396. In the 1/8 he ran a 10.11 and i ran a 9.23. You shouldn't have much of a problem unless he's playin' ya.
