'86 2.8 auto vs modded '86 vette?

This happened a few years back when I had a skanky delivery job and used my (before i gave it to the junkyard) 2.8 firebird with auto trans. It was around 11:00 at night and I see this red '86 vette with a 4inch? cowl hood slowly creeping up to me and slowly passes me in the other lane. I then increase my speed to keep the same pace with him, towards the next red light.
By this time I caught his attention as he began lunging his car forward by repeatedly tapping the gas pedal, I did the same. While waiting for the green, Both of us with our aftermarket exhaust pipes plus his headers?, intake?, cams?, stick shift? fully revved up to the redline with enough noise to wake the dead.
The light hit GREEN,,,
I of course, had the better reaction and took about the first 10 or 20 feet, then he passed by me and suddenly slowed up wanting me to catch up and when I did he just finally took off as I threw my hand out of the window and gave him the bird......of course that wasnt the last time I encountered that "guy in the red vette"

That was my first street race and one of the few I ever did, I prefer to pay my insurance in miniscule amounts

You should have guessed he'd play with you a little after trying to race him with a 2.8... I only flip my friends off and only in a joking way... seems a little excessive for a race you were bound to lose.
