Can I beat this 5.0?
Can I beat this 5.0?
I have been challenged to a race by an 88GT with only full exhaust and mallory ignition, he will be running cheater slicks. He also has 3.73 gears. Now the car i'll be driving is a 66 Malibu with a punched out 350, last year with 3.23 open diff and a 650 edelbrock it ran a 14.29 since then I have added 3.73's with a posi and a 750 holley i'll be running radials what do you think? Personally I think his *** is mine.

I think you got him. If he starts adding more mods though then I don't know. Mustangs seem to take well to small mods.
I think it can be close. A 5-spd with 3.73' and slicks can pull high 13's. I have about the same mods and my times are below (i m automatic). I think he is good for 14.0-14.2 if he can dive and you said your car went 14.29? Sounds like a driver's race to me (the best kind)
I went high 13s with 3.73 gears, exhaust and pulleys in my '88 Mustang. That was on street radials. With slicks, you're looking at mid 13s unless the car is in need of a tune up.
Is the Mustang a 5-speed or AOD?

That converter you've got sitting in your room will be the best mod you ever do to the car, but I stand by my statement...AOD's suck. Drive a 5.0 with a C4 behind it and you'll understand
If I had the time, energy, and money to do it, I would serousely consider it, but I plan on running in the MHRA (Mustang Heads up Racers Association) Factory Stock class, and I don't think they allow C4s.
The ran at New England Dragway in Epping, NH and Lebanon Valley Dragway in Lebanon, NY last year and this yaer they are running strictly at Lebanon Valley because of problems in NH. They run classes like the NMRA, but there are less cars and a more home like experience in my eyes. Plus they are more lenient with the rules. They have a website, but you have to go through like Stangnet, or something to get there, I'll look for the site.
