whinning in the rear??
whinning in the rear??
I had a little bit of whinning in the rear for as long as I have had my car.. i put a new Auburn in it last year and that did nothing... now just today I put a Hotchkis LCA's and Panhard rod and it has got worst.... It only happens when I let off the gas.. If anyone could shed some light on this they will solve a huge annoying problem...
Thanks
Thanks
New tires yes, but did you have them balanced properly? If they are out of balance it is the most aggravating thing in the world!
I'm pretty sure that's it.
If not, it could be your wheel bearings too. Those things make annoying noise when they are out of whack too.

Even with "new" disc's there could be excessive runout (wobble) if it's really bad you will get a shudder under braking, but if it's not excessive it could just be lightly dragging on the pad's....
I make it a habit now (after not checking and putting defective"new" disc's on my wife's old cavalier)to install the disc's and then set up my dial indicator and check to make sure that the disc's are"true"it takes 5 minutes and saves time later. Even if the disc's are straight when installed all it take's is one hero with an air gun to warp them.
But your right LCA's shouldn't make that or tires worse how bad were your old bushing's in your LCA's? by installing these part's does it change your pinion angle?Ie.. is your U-joint at a slightly different angle then before?Even if it feel's tight it could have some bad roller's in it...This also will cause a hum under deceleration (at least till it go's clunk
).........SR

Get it out and inspect it or have someone inspect it . Has nothing to do with your brakes or bearings, if it was your bearings, they would have failed by now for sure. Ive done some rears with a friend, and two out of the three, there was a whinning noise, and the rear 's were shot to shiet.

i have to go with Rochead on this one. gears for sure. The reason they sound even worse now is becasue you have changed the geomitery of how they mesh together with your new Hotchkis LCA's and Panhard rod. you only hear them when you foot is off the gas because they are not under load and tend to float a bit causing them to wine.
other causes could also be
Worng lubricant in rear axle
worn bushings
or pinion bearing noise
but most likly what you are hearing is just gear noise. any one that has had a new set of gears can tell there is an increase in noise. usally lowdest at about 80km
